The DEATH
6:59 a.m.
The sun had risen from its gleaming castle in the sky, shining through the window and soaking the red carpet in light.
7:00 a.m.
The alarm went off. Krist immediately rolled over and slammed his hand on the plastic contraption, hoping not to have woken up his roommate, Newwie. He wasn't used to waking up this late via alarm clock. He squinted and rubbed his eyes at the bright sun, glancing over to New's bed. Sure enough, he was sleeping soundly with his back to Krist .
He laughed quietly.
He got up, walked and the window and pulled the blinds shut so the room was dark and peaceful once again.
"Just because I have to wake up early on Saturday doesn't mean New should." He yawned and stepped into the bathroom.
After a hot shower, Krist got changed and went downstairs. Breakfast had started at 7:30, but he wanted to get to his test early. It would only take him a half hour at the most. He could stop at a restaurant afterwards. He headed across the street in the cold, morning air. Clutching his jacket closed, he headed towards the math/science department.
With a quick glimpse at his watch, he noted the time: it was only quarter till eight. He had plenty of time.
Krist turned the corner, past the swimming pool (it was still empty due to the weather), past the basketball courts (tryouts were being held indoors due to the weather), and past the art department.
The science building was just past the entry way into the forest.
It was only 8:00.
He turned to the forest, admiring it's beauty. He did have plenty of time.
He made his way onto the trail and took a right to a smaller one. Professor Knott's English room was in the back of the building, and one of the trails led right to it. Krist was always jealous of the view. He wanted to be able to watch the forest during English class.
But something caught Krist's attention.
There were two boys a little ways off the trail. They were walking away from ground, deeper into the forest were students where not allowed to go.
They were practically polar opposites: one had white hair and pale skin, and the other had black hair and a bit tanner skin than the other boy. Was that Alex Peterson? He couldn't tell from just the back of their heads. Would that make the other guy Ken? Singto had said those two weren't allowed around each other. Though he had never told Krist why. Maybe they had disciplinary issues or something.
At the moment, Krist didn't really care. He was curious, but he also had an English test to take.
Dismissing the boys' appearance, He found his way to the back entrance. He took out his card key and swiped it under the lock.
Red light. Red light. Red light.
Nothing happened.
He swiped it again.
Red light. Red light. Red light.
Nothing.
"Crap..." He muttered in the cold air.
He looked around hoping for to see someone who could open the door for him. No one was there. The only sound to be heard was the wind brushing up gently against the branches and dead leaves on the ground.
It was 8:30. If he ran around to the other side of the building he could probably make it just in time.
Click.
The door opened.
Krist turned around in surprise, only to find Alice standing in the doorway.
"You wanted in?"
"Uh..uh yeah. I... I did."
She looked at him, "C'mon in then."
He stepped into the warm building beside Alice as she shut the door. She was only a two years older than Krist, and she was already in collage.
"Where are you headed to?"
"Professor Knott's room. Um...room 106 I think."
"Oh, that's right here. I'm headed there myself."
"Really?"
"Yeah." She said, as the two walked across the hall, "I'm just in there to watch though, Sataporn assigned me and my brother to do the same this weekend so we can get a better grasp on what this school's about... er something."
He laughed, "Yeah, that sounds like Him. "
Room 106. He was right. He and Alice entered the room with twenty minutes to spare.
There were only a few students there early. They were sitting at their desks, listening to music, flipping through their science books, zoning out...
"Krist , I'm glad you could make it. You can get started now if you'd like." Professor Knott cheerfully greeted him, "Lemme get your test..." He had been I the middle of writing formulas down on the chalkboard. He set down his chalk and reached for a paper on his test, "They've got a test today."
"Oh."
"Here you are." He handed the paper to Krist , "You may have a seat in the back."
"Thanks."
Krist set found a seat next to the window facing the forest. He took out a pencil and started his test.
Twenty minutes into it, the class had started and Alice had taken Professor Knott's comfy chair beside his desk.
Krist smiled.
Knott explained the junior's test and handed out the papers. Alice watched closely. One of the desks in the middle of the room was empty.
As Knott passed it, Krist noticed a gleam in his eye. He walked back over to Alice, she got up from his chair and found another one.
It took Krist a bit longer to finish his test than expected. He looked up to the clock. The class only had ten minutes left. He closed his eyes and decided to wait. He had nothing better to do. Newwie was probably awake by now. He's probably at breakfast.
"Pass your tests forward please."
A few voices could be heard whispering things like, "Oh man..." "How'd' you do?"
The bell rang as the junior packed up their things and left the room.
Krist shoved his pencil back in his pocket and gave the test to Knott as he passed by. Only a few eyes noticed he wasn't from their class.
"You can go get breakfast you know. They're still serving."
"I'll probably go grab something to eat."
"How was your test?"
"Fine, thanks" He smiled, noticed Alice had gotten up and gone to erase the chalkboard.
"Lemme' ask you something."
"Okay."
"Do you know a kid named Ken Demux?"
He suddenly remembered the two boys in the forest, "Um..."
"He just moved here with three other guys..."
"Yeah I think I've seen him."
"He hasn't been showing up for school, or at least not my class. If you see him tell him to get his butt over here before he fails."
He remembered the empty desk, "Okay, if I see him I'll tell him.
Knott smiled, "Thanks."
"Jason?"
Knott looked over to the door.
A tall man with dark, shoulder-length, hair was standing in the doorway. He looked deathly pale and had bags under his eyes.
Alice starred at her brother inquisitively.
"We have a situation in the forest."
Knott looked to Dr. Plustor with dangerous eyes, "What happened?"
Apparently they had forgotten Krist was there.
"There was a student reported missing this morning. We found him."
"What happened?" Knott demanded.
"He's dead, Jason."
