Chapter 16- *Insert clever title name here*
A few months earlier.
"We must make them Vulnerable. Get them at their weakest point, before striking them down." Alecto paced the area as her sisters stood, bored, to the side.
Megaera picked at her claws, seemingly uninterested with the topic of conversation. "Even then, its unlikely that we would be able to overtake them. Have you forgotten about the stupid camps? They are the gods' pawns-- at the ready whenever they are needed. I am no fool. I know they have grown stronger." She drawled. Tisiphone remained silent.
"We need to tear them apart, ruin them. Pit them against each other. Anger is a powerful weapon, sister. It can turn even the best of friends into enemies. As the fury of anger, I would know." Alecto hissed, baring her dagger-like fangs.
Tisiphone cocked her head to the side. "I think I know where to start." She mused.
The other two Kindly Ones nodded.
"Percy Jackson."
Percy Jackson POV
The boat drifted through the Styx. Souls swam through the murky river beneath us, and I was, all in all, feeling pretty hopeless about the whole situation.
Call me crazy, but fighting the three furies didn't exactly feel like my idea of a good time.
In the middle of my mini meltdown, I felt Annabeth put her hand on my shoulder, and saw the empathetic look in her eyes. An unavoidable sigh left my lips, and I glanced to my side where my new found uncle and Steve stood. Nico was standing near Charon, probably making sure that he wasn't about to throw us overboard.
"And here we have it; the entrance to the Underworld." Charon gestured to Cerberus. sounding like an overly exhausted tour guide. As we stepped off the boat, I saw him smirk out of the corner of my eye. "With the mood Lord Hades is in today, I plan to see the lot of you soon." He proceeded to let the spirits out, and then disappeared into the foggy surroundings.
"Well that was fun." Stark said with a disapproving shrug. Nico ignored the words and pushed passed him. He nodded towards Annabeth and I.
"You guys sort of know where to go, right?" He asked solemnly. I nodded. We headed towards Cerberus with Steve and Tony on our tail.
I turned towards Annabeth as soon as we saw the three headed dog. "Déjà Vu, am I right?" I laughed nervously. "Don't suppose any of you guys are carrying around a rubber ball on you?"
"Ha. Ha." Annabeth rolled her eyes, but I could see a small smile forcing its way onto her face. "But, unfortunately, I don't."
"That's a lot of heads." Steve commented. I saw Nico glance back at him, and shoot Steve an eerie grin.
"Sadly, not the most heads I've seen on a dog." He chuckled, and headed towards it. The Son of Hades held up a hand, and moved past the dog. "They're with me." Cerberus backed down, and I could've sworn I heard him whimper when Annabeth walked past.
"I can shadow travel us from here," Nico said. He held his hand out, and we all followed his lead and grasped each other's hands. A faint trace of nausea later, I could see the dark palace of Hades looming overhead.
"Sure I won't end up in the dungeon this time?" I asked the son of Hades with a raised eyebrow. Nico's face turned a bright red, and he rubbed the back of his head.
"Uh...yeah. I'm sure." He mumbled. Tony looked between the two of us skeptically.
"You guys have one screwed up friendship." He stated.
"Shut up." Nico and I said simultaneously.
"Well that's not very--" Tony's words quickly faded into the distance, and his jaw practically fell to the floor. I followed his gaze, and turned around.
Oh great.
"Lord Hades," Annabeth bowed her head, and when I didn't do the same she kicked me in the shin. Hard. Needless to say, after that painful reminder I followed her example.
"What a pleasure." I said through clenched teeth. Hades looked me up and down with an unimpressed look on his face.
"I'm afraid I cannot say the same, Jackson." He said. He faced his son. "Nico. Why did you bring these people here? Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase? Not to mention two mortal avengers?"
"Well, father, you see, its about the furies." Nico spoke nervously.
"Yes, yes, I know." Hades waved him off. "They are no longer in the Underworld. Is this what you brought your little band of merry men to tell me?"
"There's going to be an attack." I blurted out, my words surpassing my incredibly thin filter. "In two days." I pointed to the ground. "Here, by the way."
Hades raised an eyebrow. "Boy, don't you think I would be aware if there was going to be an attack in my realm?"
"Please, Lord Hades, the furies have been very discreet. Disguising as mortals. Blending in with the crowd. They--" Annabeth was shut down soon after.
"Daughter of Athena--"
"Perhaps you should have listened to the demigods, Lord Hades." An evil cackle rose from the ground and seemingly filled every crevice of the Underworld.
A new voice joined in in a slightly teasing manner. "They were correct after all, for everything except the date."
"There was a slight change in schedule."
The three furies wandered into sight, all in their mortal forms.
"Megaera has always been so impatient, she just couldn't wait another few days." Tisiphone spoke with a sneer.
"So we,"
"Chose,"
"Now."
