Chapter 9: A Promise & The Garden
YOONA
"Good Morning Miss Yasmin!"
"Hello Miss Yasmin!"
"I can't wait for the flowers!"
"Is it my turn?"
"Be quiet classmates!"
"Hi Miss Yasmin!"
I'm dead. Its a maximum of 21 little kids around the garden! We (Shawn is here as well, as expected) haven't started the class yet but they're already running around noisy!
"Children! Come here this instant!" Says Miss Margaret. All the kids suddenly stopped chit-chattering and walked quietly towards her. Does she have hypnotization or what?
"Good. Now, our last lesson for today will all be about Flowers and their knowledge. Our friends here, namely Yasmin and Shawn, will tell you about them." Miss Margaret continued and pointed at us. The children waved at us afterwards. We bowed at them and started to walk around. I tried to look at my best for them today and smiled.
It's only for today. Just smile and tell them your knowledge, my mind said. I stopped walking and gestured the children at the rose field. They had jaw-dropping faces and was amazed at them.
"This is a healthy and well-cared Rose garden. As you can see there are a lot of kinds of rose colors. And did you know they also mean something?" The children cutely shook their heads and some said no or maybe. I giggled softly but I tried to hide it.
"You see those red roses over there. They're the most common of them all. They also have a very deep meaning." I stated. I almost got all the attention in the class because I walked in front of the red rose path.
"Red Roses convey deep emotions like love, longing, or desire. They can also be used to show respect, admiration, or devotion to someone you know." I then walked slowly towards the White Roses area.
"White Roses are one of my favorites. They show purity, chastity, and innocence. They also mean new beginnings." I noticed a young boy raised his hand and I asked him what his question was.
"Miss Yasmin, what do you mean by new beginnings?" I couldn't think of an example because its a bit too personal on my case so Shawn answered him.
"Do you go to weddings? Whenever the bride comes in, she holds white roses, which is called a bouquet. It means a new beginning because she's making one with her groom, the love of her love. Do you get it kids?" They all answered a yes and I continued.
"Anyways, as you can see, there are a lot of roses here with different colors. They were planted from my uncle whose friend of his has a collection of rose seedlings. That's why we got to have almost all kinds of roses like these," I then pointed at Yellow Rose area, which made the children awed at the sight.
"Yellow Roses are an expression of exurbance. They symbolize friendship and caring towards a person." I noticed some girls talking and because of my powerful sense of hearing, they're talking about giving some to their 'best friends'. I sighed a bit and walked towards the Pink Roses.
"Pink Roses at first sight, makes you think that it means cuteness and cheerfulness, but it has a different meaning. These roses are used to convey gentle emotions such as admiration, joy and gratitude. Literaly speaking that you can use this pink rose to someone you want to thank of." Some smiled and got excited of what rose I'll show them next. I head towards the Orange Roses this time.
"Orange ones signify passion and energy. They can be used to express intense desire, pride, and fervor. It just means that it shows your passion on something you like so much." I walked to the Lavender Roses, which are my Uncle's favorites this time.
"Lavender, like its color, it conveys enchantment. Meaning you're enchanted to someone special. It also expresses love at first sight." I don't know why but I noticed some children turn their heads to different sides, and silently smiled or grinned. I suddenly realized, they're planning to give these roses to their crushes. How old are these kids again?
I just didn't mind it and went to the next set of roses, which is the color blue. The children looked bewildered and tried to guess if this is blue or black.
"Okay kids, these are the Blue roses. Their meanings are still unknown or their meanings are not really 100% percent true so for now, I'll tell you of what I think the meaning is." I bend towards them and pointed at the roses.
"Blue roses cannot be achieved naturally so they represent the unattainable or the mysterious. Its also like saying this quote 'I can't have you but I can't stop thinking about you'." The kids squealed in excitement as we take steps to the second-to-the-last roses.
"Green roses mean harmony, of opalence, of fertility. It also means indicative of peace and tranquility." We walked in the last trail of roses and smiled weakly. We just stopped in front of the black roses.
"And these are the last ones in our Rose journey, the Black Roses. Like its color, it means farewell and death." The kids looked shocked and surprised but I calmed them down with my smile. I clasped my hands as I remembered one thing about roses.
"Oh! I forgot, you can also make a bouquet of mixed roses." They look at me curiously. "Mixed roses can create a bouquet of emotions. It states a message like 'I don't know my feelings are yet but I sure do like you enough to send you roses'."
And so on, so forth, the class went on. Me, discussing and telling each and every flowers' meanings, Shawn, guarding and often helping me in discussing, and Miss Margaret, watching me in interest with a smile.
We are now inside the green house when a young girl suddenly asks me something.
"Miss Yasmin, what's that shining white flower?" I look towards where the girl is pointing at and I saw my precious flower planted there.
"That is my very favorite flower, the White Carnation. It usually reminds me of my mother who gave me this when I was in your age." I told them and another boy raised his hand.
"Can we know what that flower means?"
"But of course." I told them. I walked towards it and touched its petals. "This flower means pure love and good luck. Which means that whoever will give this to you has a very pure heart. It also means that the person never lies about his or her lover. It also brings good luck, but not usually." I stood up and stretched.
"And that's all for today kids! Did you had fun learning things about flowers?" All of them then said yes in chorus, some did some side-comments too. "I had fun too since its the first time that children got in here. Its time to say good bye!" Some said disappointing remarks while some shouted in happiness. Though their reactions were different, they still had to go home.
Miss Margaret walked near me and tapped my shoulder. "Thank you for your time Yasmin. I'm impressed as well."
"Its my pleasure Miss. Have a good day!" I told her and she walked out. Shawn then told me that he'll buy some drinks so I grabbed a chair and sat down exhaustedly. That was tiresome, really.
I lift my head up and stared at the orange sky. I still have an hour before I can go home. I closed my eyes as I refreshed something from the past.
FLASHBACK
"And this is how you plant a plant." Mommy said as she places the dirt back after she placed the seed. I'm still 9 years old but I'm smart to understand things this time!
"By the way mommy, what did you just plant?" I asked her. She looks at me sweetly.
"A White Carnation dearie. It means pure love and luck."
"Pure love? What's that?"
"Your love is true. And mine's too." She poked my nose happily while I cringed after. I pout at her. She then laughed at me.
"My dear Yoona, if only we can visit your father's grave for Father's day. I'm sure you'll be twice as happier." She stated, making me fall silent for awhile.
"But we can't go to Moon Kingdom mommy. We're banned from there and we can't return yet." I told her. She then looked at me sympatheticly. She cupped my cheeks and kissed my forehead.
"Promise mommy something okay?" I nod at her. "When you're at your right age at the right time, please visit daddy for me."
"But why can't we do it together?" I asked innocently.
"I'm maybe gone when its time. I'm going with him soon." She turned her head upwards a bit making me understand what she said. I cried a bit.
"Hey, don't cry. You're strong remember? So please promise me okay?" She held me her pinky. I held it with mine and smiled with tears in my eyes. "That's my girl. I love you Yoona."
"I love you too mommy."
END OF FLASHBACK
"Deep in thought are we?" I look at the person in front of me and saw Shawn holding with two cold drinks in hand. I shivered, fearing what might happen as soon as I touch it. He placed mine on the table near us and gestured me to take it.
Just like I feared, the table turned ice when I touched the drink. If this was anime, Shawn probably sweat-dropped at this. He coughed afterwards.
"You can't drink it?" He asked me.
"I can. Its just the table, not you." I answered him when I grabbed the drink and drank it. I didn't freeze but the chair I sat on turned cold. Shawn just sweat-dropped even more I think.
"Anyways, did you suddenly remembered what Ma'am Cassandra told you?" He asked. I just shrugged my shoulders while drinking. It has a straw by the way.
"Kyeopta. "
"What?" I asked, not hearing what he said because of the cold drink. He just shook his head and said no.
"What's going to happen tomorrow again?" I asked him.
"The annual Spring Festival. It will be held in the academy's field. I'm one of the people who will help them prepare. Perhaps they could borrow some flowers here?" He asked. I shrugged again.
"Ask uncle." I told him. We fell silent afterwards. I'm so good at this you know? Making conversations awkward afterwards? I'm the best of it, really.
"So," I started, to ease the uneasy feeling. "what should I do tomorrow?"
"Become the judge of the Flower dress contest."
"What?"
