Saving My Soul

{Oh look, an old shitty attempt at an Undertale fanfic}

Prologue

I watched Frisk disappear, for the millionth time. I held the pulsing red heart in my hand, and threw it in with the rest. I looked at the two buttons in front of me.

*SAVE

*RESET

My hand wavered over save, ready for me to move on to the next murderer like me. I unknowingly pressed a button.

❤️ *RESET

Chapter One

I woke up on the normal bed of golden flowers. I knew what was going on. "Why did I choose reset..." I grumbled, brushing off my clothes. I started forward, and saw Flowey awaiting me. I smiled, and a look of terror washed upon his face.

"Y- You! Why...? Please don't kill me again..." Flowey pleaded. I held my knife in my handed, fiddling with it.

"Why?" I kept my words simple.

"I... I... I can... I can help.... Please....." Flowey stared up at me. I uprooted him from the ground, relishing his piercing shriek of terror. I tore off a petal, and Flowey yelped.

"I know what you try to do. I know you will spare Frisk." I pulled off another petal.

"Please no..." Flowey had given up. He was shaking, his face twisted into a look of pain and fear. Fear. I relished it.

"I could always spare you..." I ripped off another two petals. "But that would be... Boring." I laughed. Flowey was bare of petals, and I smiled at him. "Asriel, you would understand."

"Chara! Please, you know I was turned into a flower! I could break the barrier, I could let you free... I can help you destroy humanity!" Flowey tried to persuade me with empty promises.

"But it would get boring. Having control over timelines, I would be able to predict what would happen. One combination I haven't tried yet, though..." I smiled again. Flowey was shaking violently. I held my knife, tight in my grasp. I sliced at Flowey, and he perished. I heard a sharp gasp. No one else is here... Toriel doesn't come yet...

"What did you do?" A voice asked. I recognized it, but, yet it was different. I slowly turned around.

"Frisk?"

Chapter Two

Frisk stared at me.

"Who are you?" Frisk asked. I glared at him.

"So you must be pacifist Frisk... So boring." I said. Frisk stared at me.

"Why did you kill him?" Frisk asked me.

"What do you remember?" I changed the subject.

"This is my second time being here... I wanted to help Flowey again..." Frisk shuffled his feet, and his hands rubbed each other.

"I have been here countless times." I smiled. This Frisk wouldn't understand. He wouldn't understand me the way the murderous Frisk would. And I couldn't posses this Frisk-He was too pure.

"How? What is your name?" The young child asked countless questions. I decided to tell him my name-I would kill him anyway.

"Chara." I held up my knife, many smiled. It's sharp blade glinted from the small amount of light in the black room.

"Well you already know my name so- Wait, why are you holding a really sharp looking knife?" I slowly walked towards him, holding onto the knife. Then Frisk spoke again.

"Would Asriel, not the flower, the one before that, would he want this?" I froze. I was right in front of Frisk. My arm shook, holding the knife. I could kill him, right now...

"I will kill you..." I said, and my arm went forward. I saw the normal battle thing occur, and I stared at Frisk. I smiled. I looked at Frisk's Mercy button... "Won't be needing that. Won't work." I smashed the Mercy button, earning a sharp yelp of surprise from Frisk. I saw his Fight button. "Nor that." I sliced it up. All he had was Item and Act. I knew he would have no items... And besides, what could Act do?

"I won't fight." Frisk declared. I giggled.

"Then that would be no fun. Oh wait, you have no choice. I will kill you and take your SOUL." I advanced towards his Soul, slicing at it. I watched Frisk's HP decrease lower and lower...

"Help!" Frisk called. I laughed. Then I went silent.

"Chara?"

Chapter Three

I turned around slowly.

"Mom?" I saw Frisk staring wide eyed. I knew he wouldn't know I was Asriel's friend-He hasn't played genocide.

"What are you doing? How are you here?" Toriel asked me. I remembered flashes of my past. Killing Toriel, watching Frisk kill her, watching the blind players control Frisk, killing Toriel as they believed they had. No. Choice. No choice.

"No choice..." I murmured. Frisk tilted his head. Toriel started towards me and Frisk.

"Two children... One I do not know, and one who has been dead... Chara, how did you get here?" Toriel looked at me, love in her eyes. I shuffled in my pocket, and grasped my knife. I held on to it, wondering whether or not to strike.

"Chara don't." Frisk told me. I turned around and looked at him, glaring.

"Why shouldn't I?" I asked. I wanted to know the answer, truthfully. This was the first time I had hesitated to kill.

"Because it's wrong. You could make friends, you could really see what the Underground is like..." Frisk shuffled his feet again, nervous. I let go of my knife.

"Just this once. I will see what these 'friends' are." I said slowly. Why did I do that? Chara you idiot! I scolded myself. I don't know why I agreed-I just did.

"Now throw your knife on the ground or give it to me." Frisk ordered. I huffed and slammed my knife in his hand. "Not so hard!"

"You will regret this, as will I." I said angrily. "But, may as well find out what this is. Curiosity killed the cat, but it couldn't kill me."

Chapter Four

I followed Toriel into the house. It had been so long since I've been here. Frisk followed closely behind. He had stopped me from killing a pair of curious Froggits, a terrified Whimsun, and a Vegetoid. He showed me his 'friend' Napstablook, which I liked the most. He knew how to stay out of my way.

"It's been so long." I sighed as we entered the house. I could smell my mom's notorious cinnamon-butterscotch pie. I knew where the kitchen was, so I went there. I knew that Toriel always kept a chocolate bar on the bottom left drawer. I ran in, and opened the drawer. "Perfect." I sat in the kitchen quietly, binging on chocolate. Someone tapped my on the shoulder, and I turned around.

"Chara what are you doing?" Frisk asked.

"Eating chocolate." I said simply.

"Let me take that, don't want you getting sic-"

"nO! dOn'T YoU daRe" I hissed, pulling away. Frisk put his hands up in surrender.

"Ok! Ok! Have your chocolate. Geez." Frisk was muttering something incoherent as he walked out. I smiled, and continued to eat until all the chocolate was gone. I stood up and found Toriel in her chair, reading Frisk 72 facts about snails. Toriel brightened up.

"Greetings, my child! Er, why is there brown all over your face? Oh you must have found the chocolate... Want to listen to these interesting facts?" Toriel said.

"No. I'm going out into the ruins." I said. I was hoping that Frisk would stay and listen to Toriel, and I go kill and satisfy my need.

"Oh, I'll come with!" Frisk stood up and ran up to me with a smile. "Can we go to Snowdin?" Toriel nodded. Frisk beckoned me downstairs, and I rolled my eyes. Why me...

Chapter Five

I walked along the snowy path, in the forest. I was silently counting down in my head for when Sans showed up. I hated him. He was the only one that was a match for me. I heard the stick break. Frisk was his usual, walking along with a peppy bounce in his step. We arrived at the bridge, and I turned around before Sans could speak. I knew Frisk would pity him and not turn around, but I didn't care.

"how did you know i was going to be he- no..." Sans said, in his low rumble. He stared at me, anger sparking in his eyes. I knew he remembered. Frisk peeked from behind my shoulder, and waved. A nervous grin was on his face.

"Hi Sans! I'm assuming you know Chara... Don't worry, I will make sure she doesn't kill anyone!" Frisk chirped.

"why is that monster here?" Sans asked.

"Because I accidently pressed reset when I meant continue." I growled. All of this stupidity because of a stupid mistake.

"well Chara." Sans began. Then the light disappeared from his eyes. I was used to this. "don't kill anyone. i trust Frisk. not you." Sans then returned to his normal eyes. I glared. While he spoke I moved my hand like a mouth, mocking the skeleton.

"Yeah I get it, creepy bones. I just want to get through this." I said with a huff. I started forward, but Frisk called something out that made me freeze.

"But Flowey is dead... You can't exactly get through the barrier." I smiled at Frisk's comment.

"But Asgore could steal your soul." I said.

"nope." Sans broke in. I remembered then.

"And you can't help!" Frisk shouted.

"I hate you all..." I grumbled, and we continued on. I kept shooting dangerous glances at Sans. He returned them.

"Guys, stop it." Frisk intervened. Me and Sans both glared at each other. "GUYS!"

"what?"

"What?" We spoke at the same time.

"Stop glaring at each other! Be friends! I am determined-"

"Oh good grief." I interrupted. "I have determination too! Not just Mr. Peace Maker!"

"-To make Chara my friend. You should at least try Sans!" Frisk continued. Sans glared at me again. "Sans!"

"sorry, kid. she just makes me uneasy." Sans apologized.

"I wonder why, it wasn't like I killed Papyrus or anythi-" A bone smacked me in the shoulder. Sans didn't enter a fight yet, but I expected him to.

"Sans! Chara! Both of you!" Frisk shouted. He worked his way in between us and gave us both stern looks.

"Yes mother." I sneered. Frisk ignored it. We walked more in an awkward silence. I was unhappy-No chocolate, no blood, no death. I'm such an idiot...

Chapter Six

We arrived near Snowdin, and I saw Papyrus running up. Sans gave a small wave.

"Frisk, you know what to do." Frisk went behind a conveniently shaped lamp, and as as gestured for me to follow. I refused. Papyrus ran up finally.

"SANS! DID YOU CAPTURE A HUMAN YET???" Papyrus asked, eyeing me.

"yup."

"GUESS THATS SETTLED!" Papyrus then promptly ran off. Sans gave me a dirty look, as if saying, don't think about it.

"Well now I'm thinking about it." I said aloud.

"you better not." Sans said, his eyes losing the shine.

"Geez, sheesh, rawr-"

"don't."

"Fine!" I huffed. We continued to Snowdin, in silence once again. When we entered, the townsfolk welcomed us. I saw Sans and Frisk saying hi, ignoring me. I took my chance to slip away.

"no, don't want you killing anyone." Sans grabbed the back of my shirt, pulling me back. I crossed my arms, my fingers twitching. I want my knife. I thought.

"Well, if I'm going to be in this hellhole, may as well find chocolate. Or a knife..." I mumbled the last part, and I eyed Sans. "I 'won't kill anyone'." I reluctantly added. Sans nodded. I ran off, looking around for something that could make this stupid trip worthwhile.

I found the shop Grillby's, and I went inside. I saw the fire-headed monster at the counter, and multiple other monsters were sitting in seats with food. I walked up to the counter.

"Do you have chocolate? Or anything worthwhile." I asked. Grillby, I'm assuming, nodded, and disappeared in a room. I waited, and he came back with a bucket of chocolate bars. I handed in my gold, and took it outside. I was eating when Frisk ran up to me with Papyrus at his side.

"Look! This is the GREAT PAPYRUS!" Frisk introduced. Papyrus waved to me.

"I know... I remember when I smashed his skull into dust." I smiled. Frisk gave me a stare. I could see Sans in the distance mouthing the words, 'do you wanna have a bad time?'.

"GREETINGS HUMAN-LOOKING MONSTER!" Papyrus greeted, cheerful as always. I remember when I killed him-He said he always believed in me. Made me laugh. I began eating another chocolate bar.

"What's with you in chocolate?" Frisk asked. I decided to give him a simple answer.

"Everyone likes chocolate." I took a bite. "Even murderers." Frisk nodded slowly. My hands twitched to fiddle with my knife.

"WELL LETS BE FRIENDS, THEN. I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, WILL BE CAPTAIN OF THE ROYAL GUARD! AND WHEN I AM, I WILL GIVE YOU ALL THE CHOCOLATE YOU NEED!" I narrowed my eyes. Naive little moron. I thought. I could see Frisk giving me a panicked look, and I sighed.

"Fine." Took almost all my willpower to say that word. The look of pure happiness on the skeleton's face made me gag. Why me why me why me?
