Friend: Chapter Ten Memories

Coy's POV

When I saw Lily leave the room in a storm, I didn't know why, but I felt my heart shatter. She was too innocent, too nice, too... Not the bad guy. I saw Lily stomp back after a bit, and she spoke.

"Sit down, shut up, and ignore me." Lily snapped, venom lacing her voice. The class listened. The teacher by now had given up. The only ones in the room were the wolf children. I looked at Lily sadly, but, strangely, she just... Ignored me. I decided to intervene. I stood up and walked over to the seat behind her. I glared at the wolf behind her. It happened to be Darston, the only wolf bigger than me.

"What d'you want, Marrowheart?" Darston asked with his deep voice.

"Seat. Out. Now." I growled. He just stared at me. I kicked him in the snout with my hind legs, the propulsion getting him out of the chair. I glared at him, and he scrambled to my open seat. I sat behind Lily, and I could tell she was crying. I decided to do what I did best, and bring back memories.

Poke.

Poke.

Poke. I poked her in the back with my snout. I remembered when I first met Lily. She was interesting. She completely ignored me, and tried not to draw attention, unlike most other female wolves in the school.

Flashback

I saw the wolf that sat in front of me. She introduced herself quickly and sat down. Hey, I thought, She looks interesting. May as well make her aware of my awesome presence! I poked her back with my snout. After a few pokes, she whipped around.

"Stop, please...!" She whispered politely.

"Nope." I said, popping the 'p'. This was normal. I got a girl's attention, they asked me to stop. The next pokes were what got them wrapped around my paw.

Poke.

Poke.

Poke.

She whipped around again. "Stop!"

"Sorry, princess." I said. Calling them those little names left them speechless most of the time. But I was beginning to have my doubts.

Poke.

Poke.

Poke. Was she ignoring me? I poked her quickly. She still ignored me. I decided to poke her again.

Poooooooooooke. I left my nose there a bit. She whipped around and pushed my nose off of her. I poked her more. She raised her paw patiently.

"Yes, Ms. Silvers?" Mrs. Saterm asked.

"The wolf behind me continues to poke me with his nose." She said. How dare her! This was new to me. I poked her once more.

"You are not a child," Mrs. Saterm said, rolling his eyes. "Coy Marrowheart, you aren't a child either. Quit it." Quit it. I thought mockingly. The teacher did his thing, and I thought about why the hell Lily isn't head over paws for me yet. I saw Lily was listening, taking notes. I had ceased my poking for thinking.

After class was over, I watched Lily go to her locker. I waited for her to close it. I trotted over to her with my head held high.

"Silvers." I said adding cockiness to my voice.

"Marrowheart." Lily said in the same tone. The frick?

"You had the nerve, to cry to the teacher." I said, adding emphasis on the nerve and teacher. I felt anger flash through my eyes.

"Yep." Lily said, copying me and popping the 'p'. I decided to play it like she was in trouble.

"I never let someone do that for free." I said.

"Well, I will just be the exception and leave-" Oh no you don't! I thought, and I interrupted her. I pinned her against the wall. I wanted her to be scared. I think... She squeaked in surprise.

"And you will pay the price." I whispered into her ear. I felt her staring at me as I left her. I saw her walking away dizzily.

What the hell just happened? I thought.

Flashback end

I remembered that moment, and poked her more. She ignored me, but I felt her stop crying. I poked her. I kept it up, as I was determined to do this. She was my friend, right? I left my nose there. Poooooooooooooooooke. I stifled my smile as she whipped around. I saw her eyes widen. They were red from crying. I saw dark tear stains going down her face. I looked her in the eyes.

"Nope." I said, popping the 'p'.  I knew that brought back memories, the very first thing I ever said to her. I saw her sniff. I nuzzled her. "I don't give to fu-"

"Fridges." Lily said suddenly. Oh yeah... We were both quiet a moment, and then we both began to laugh.

"I don't give two fridges what the others think. I don't give two fridges what your history is or who your family is. I don't care. You aren't like that. You're my friend." I said. Geez, getting really frickin sappy aren't you, Coy? I scolded myself. I mentally facepawed myself. Lily looked at me, a light dancing in her eyes.

"You're a fridge." Lily said quietly. We were silent. Then, we laughed again. We spent the rest of class time talking like the dorks we are. I don't care anymore. I thought. Lily was different. She was my first actual friend.
