First time I saw the character: (As Nightwing) Young Justice TV series

Dick Grayson, the son of a trapeze acrobat family suffered a tragic incident that left the poor boy an orphan. In sympathy, Bruce Wayne took in this scarred boy and adopted him as his son. Little did Dick know that this billionaire by day was also the Batman by night. Taking young Grayson as an apprentice, he proudly took the mantle as Robin. But one can only be a sidekick for so long until they start to feel in someone's shadow. Years later, a more mature Richard resigns from being the boy wonder and becomes the new hero Nightwing, defender of Blüdhaven. Dick Grayson is such a well made character, and we grow with him as he transitions from Flying Grayson, to Robin, to Nightwing. He's not Batman, he's his own thing.
