The Beginning part 2: Adam and Eve
(Continuing from the new international version)

Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.
By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
My thoughts: These are the last couple of verses from the last part. I want to also talk about the other translations but since this continues, I figured I'll just continue from this one. The Bible is confusing enough, and I don't want to add any confusions. Let's just say He started creating our earth on Monday. That would make Sunday the day of rest and most Christians would go to church on Sundays. Catholics like my boyfriend and his mom goes to Mass on Saturday night.

This is a live service of my grandparents' church. I have gone there a few times for the plays my grandpa was in and I have gone to their Easter service. I would like to go to this church more often now that I have been living in Oxford but it's hard since I still work at Market Basket.
Colin's church put their services up on their website so I can't put an example of that on here so I will use a different Catholic Mass to show.

Since the Old Testament is the Jewish Bible/Torah I want to focus on those people. Shabbat is the Sabbath, which is observed from Friday evening to Saturday evening. Services are held on Friday night, Saturday morning, and Saturday afternoon. In that case I think God would have started creating our Earth on a Sunday and his day to rest would be Saturday. Shabbat services are often longer and better attended than other services. Shabbat services may include celebratory events like baby namings, conversions, and auf rufs.

You don't have to watch all of these services. You can watch a little of each just see how they are different. The Jewish one was really interesting. It was cool seeing a young girl having her Bat Mitzvah. They play a lot of music and sing a lot too. It's beautiful. The rabi here is a female. She also mentioned about the original sin and how they don't believe in that. Everyone has a pure soul. I love that but I read in the Torah about Adam and Eve too, so I don't understand that. We also get to see a Bar Mitzvah at the end of the video.
Adam and Eve
This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, when the Lord God made the earth and the heavens.
(According to Jewish and Christian tradition, Moses wrote the first five books of the Bible, also known as the Pentateuch. These books are Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. Joshua helped Moses with Exodus and Numbers.)
Verses 5, 6, 7
Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth and no plant had yet sprung up, for the LORD God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no one to work the ground, but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground. Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
My thoughts: Why didn't God make it rain? How can there be these plants if there aren't any rain? Also, I feel like this stuff should have been mentioned in day 6 when God created mankind. Just my point of view. I feel like this isn't welly structure.
Verses 8 and 9
Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. The LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground--trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

I love the History Channel and it's cool that they did an episode on the Garden of Eden. If this was a real place, I would imagine it would be hard to find evidence of it because how far back it would be. According to this video they said the Garden of Eden could be a metaphor of a Jewish temple in Jerusalem. It is in record history that this temple was destroyed in 587 BCE. In the Bible, Adam and Eve moved East when they were kicked out of the Garden of Eden. The people also went East to Babylon. So, it's a metaphor for of the exile of the Jews in Israel and the loss of the temple where God and men coexisted. This is why people believe that the location of the Garden of Eden is in Jerusalem.
(The forbidden tree)
Verses 10-14
A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters. The name of the first is the Pishon, it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold. (The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin and onyx are also there.) The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the entire land of Cush. The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Ashur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.
My thoughts: The Garden of Eden is a biblical paradise described in the book of Genesis in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament). The story of the Garden of Eden is told in Geneses 2-3 and Ezekiel 28 and 31. I haven't made it to Ezekiel yet but that will be interesting since Moses didn't wrote Ezekiel. The Pishon River is a river in the Bible that flowed out of the Garden of Eden and around the land of Havilah. It is one of the four rivers mentioned in Genesis 2:10-14. Havilah is a land and people mentioned in the Bible, and also the name of a city in California. Havilah in the Bible is rich in gold, onyx stone, and bdellium. It is mentioned in Genesis 2:10-11 and is associated with the Garden of Eden. The name Havilah may mean "to leap", which could indicate a dangerous or turbulent river. The exact location of Havilah is unknown, but some suggests it could be in southern Saudi Arabia, Armenia, or India.
Gihon is the name of a river in the Bible and a spring in Jerusalem. In the Bible, Gihon is one of four rivers that flow from Eden in the Book of Genesis. The name Gihon may come from the Hebrew word Giha, which means "gushing forth." The Gihon is said to have surrounded the land of cush, which is thought to be Ethiopia. Gihon is also the name of a place near Jerusalem where King Solomon was anointed. King Hezekiah rerouted the Gihon's course in the late 8th Century BC.
In Jerusalem, Gihon Spring is a functioning water source. The spring was the site where King Davis was anointed as King. King Hezekiah fortified the spring and rerouted its watercourse. The Gihon Spring is an important archaeological site in Jerusalem. Visitors can take a guided tour of the Gihon Spring and see Hezekiah's Tunnel, which was built to supply water to the city. Cush is an African nation, which historically was located south of Egypt in today's southern Egypt and northern Sudan, and which reigned over Egypt for approximately one hundred years in ancient times. 744-656 B.C. Cush will also be a son of Ham later on after Noah's flood. The Tigris is a river in Mesopotamia that flows through Turkey, Syria, and Iraq. It's one of the two main rivers in Mesopotamia, along with the Euphrates. The Tigris is the birthplace of one of the world's oldest civilizations. I also had a cat named Tigris. Ashur and Qul'at Sherqat, was the capital of the Old Assyrian city-state, the Middle Assyrian Empire and for a time, of the Neo-Assyrian Empire.
The Euphrates is the longest and one of the most historically important rivers of Western Asia. Together with the Tigris, it is one of the two defining rivers of Mesopotamia and the only two rivers from the Bible that still exist today.
Verses 15-18
The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die." The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."
My thoughts: If you noticed, God only spoke about the tree to Adam before He created Eve. Also, fun fact, back when I was in high school, my boyfriend at the time was Muslim and he let me burrow his Quarn and I read it. In the Quarn there is a "Before Geneses". Eve wasn't the first woman; He had created for Adam. Originally, God had created Adam and this other woman at the same time. Her name was Lillith, and she is often forgotten. I wonder why she's not in the Torah or the Bible because I find her to be a very interesting figure. She wanted to be equal to Adam. She refused to submit to him and because of that God punished her and decided to create Eve out of Adam's rib so he will have a woman who will submit to him. That is very sexist and it's not fair that this God had never spoken to Eve about anything, so she didn't really know any better.
Verses 19-22
Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. So, the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals.
But for Adam no suitable helper was found. So, the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
My thoughts: Enter Eve. Ishah means woman in Hebrew and Ish means man in Hebrew. Just an interest fact I learned from the Torah.
Verses 23, 24, and 25
The man said,
"This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman'. for she was taken out of a man."
That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.
A/N: That was the end of how the universe was created. The next part would be about the fall, but I also want to analyze some other translations. I hope you learn something from my thoughts on these 2 parts of this translation.
A new update either on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday because these are Holy days based on people's religious believes and preference on going to church or Temple.

Kristi does a lot of deconstruction videos as an Ex. Christian and she's really good in diving into the stories. I hope you watch and liked what she has to say about the Garden of Eden.
