Why most HTTYD fan fictions OCs have a Night Fury as their dragon?

That's true and of course I can understand you people that we also wanted to have a Night Fury. Heck yeah they're cool and all, but it's totally a major cliché when almost ALL of the OCs have them and there's a lot of Night Furies in one story with riders.

First of all, Night Furies are really rare and in some theories of other fans say that they live in other country where is away from the European continent. It depends if you all believe it or not. I don't since it's just a theory, but an interesting one.

I think that they nearly extinct because of humans hunting them down. Well what do you expect when Hiccup shot Toothless back in the first movie? Valka did say that he is the last of his kind and Eret says that he's not "the only one who can capture a Night Fury."

After years of contemplating, the prequel How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World had finally explained to us of why the Night Furies are nearly extinct.

Not to mention, it was Grimmel the Grisly explained that he hunted every Night Furies and kill them, making Toothless the only one left.

If you want to have your OC a Night Fury, please give a specific or, more likely, relevant reason of how they met or how the Night Fury survived. I read too much fan fictions to know why.

For example, that Night Fury is hiding because he/she doesn't want to be found by hunters until the OC meet that dragon in the cave while hunting. You can't just let your OC magically met a Night Fury and they live happily ever after. Just no! Readers will get confused about "How did they met?" and etc. Just give details in order to understand and a reason to defend your Night Fury OC ok??

But please...don't make the meeting that is similar the way Hiccup met Toothless. It's too much, so stop.

Try a different dragon for a change like a Changewing or a Screaming Death. Or any dragons that no fan fiction writers ever try like a Gronkle. What? Who doesn't like those adorable creatures despite the fact they're just slow?
