Part 9
After that night, Dis came around much more often and she almost always brought Fili and Kili. "Should I be worried about how close the two of you are getting?" Thorin asked you one afternoon when the two of you were cuddling on the couch and you giggled. "Of course not. You think you'd be happy your sister and your girlfriend are getting along." Thorin kissed your temple. "I am happy, but I also know my sister," he said with a laugh. You were about to respond when Y/S/N came running downstairs.
"Hey, Thorin?" Thorin looked up. "Can you help me with this? My new History teacher doesn't explain things the way you do." Thorin unwrapped his arm from around you and hobbled over to the table. He was wearing a walking cast now, so he had been able to go back to work when school started. The two males sat at the table, whispering between them. You decided to take the time to grab a shower.
Once you were out of sight, Y/S/N sighed. "I thought she'd never leave. Did you want me to go? I can go if you want me to." Thorin shook his head. "No. I want you here. Besides, Dis is bringing my nephews and apparently, a date." Y/S/N nodded and grinned. "She's going to be so surprised...Thorin?" Thorin looked at the teen and quirked a brow.
"Do you think she'll be happy? What about my father?" Thorin smiled. "I already talked to Thranduil. It was one of the first things I did when school started again. As for your mother, I think she will be happy. At least I hope she will. What about you? Are you sure you're alright with all this?" Y/S/N nodded vigorously. "Hell yes I am!" He glanced up at the clock. "We should probably start dinner before Aunt Dis gets here." Thorin smirked and agreed.
A little while later, Dis walked right into the house, surprising you . "I didn't know you were coming tonight, Dis. And with...Dwalin?" Dwalin's face turned red and so did Dis'. "Oh my gosh! When did that happen?" Dis placed a hand over your mouth. "Thorin doesn't know yet. He just knows I brought a date." You nodded and she could feel you smiling behind her hand.
Thorin entered the room and his brows rose. "So this is your date?" His blue eyes narrowed at his best friend. The tense silence was almost too much to bear. Then, his lips spread into a smile and he hugged Dwalin close. "No one better for her," he told them and Dis started crying. "I thought you'd be upset." Thorin shook his head and gave her a squeeze. "As long as you're happy and the boys are happy, that's all that matters."
You all sat down at the table and you could tell something was up. Everyone kept casting conspiratorial glances around, then looking at you. By the time dessert was done, you couldn't stand it anymore. "Alright. Somebody want to tell me what's going on tonight?" It was your son who answered. "What do you mean, Mom?" You gave him your "don't play with me" look. He looked to Thorin and nodded. "I think it's time."
Thorin got up and walked into the kitchen. From the "manual" drawer, he pulled out a think manila envelope. He figured that would be the best place to hide it since you almost never read the manuals to anything. You really didn't need to go through that drawer. He returned to the table and slid the envelope in front of you.
You reached for it, but Thorin placed his hand over yours. "Before you open it, I want you to know how much I love you. I've been thinking about this for months now. I talked to Y/S/N and I spoke with Thranduil. These papers here are the last piece. If you say no, I will personally throw them away. If you say yes to what I'm about to ask you, then I will file them with the attorney tomorrow." Your breath caught in your throat. "W-What are they?"
Thorin looked at Y/S/N, who answered, "They're adoption papers, Mom. For me. Thorin wants to adopt me." Your eyes shifted between Y/S/N and Thorin and you felt tears forming. "Really?" you asked, your voice cracking. Thorin nodded. "Yes. I want us to be a family, Y/N. I already think of Y/S/N as my own son. This just makes it official and legal. If you're okay with it."
"Okay with it? Of course I'm okay with it! As long as Y/S/N is, which I guess he is." Thorin nodded. "Thranduil is too. He said that, because he was such a terrible father to Y/S/N, this would be the kindest thing he could do for him." Now, everyone at the table was in tears. Even Dwalin had unshed tears in his eyes. "So, will you sign the papers, Mom? Let Thorin be my dad?" You nodded, sniffling.
Y/S/N got up and came around to your side of the table and hugged you. "Thanks, Mom," he whispered and pulled away. He nodded at Thorin again before returning to his seat. "Is there something else?" you asked, catching the look between them. The look on Thorin's face told you that he was nervous now.
"There is. I'm more...anxious about this one." He reached into his pocket and continued, "Now I know that this usually requires getting down on one knee, but seeing as I'm wearing a cast, I hope you can forgive me." He pulled his hand out of his pocket and produced a small box. He opened it, revealing a beautiful ring. The jewel in the middle sparkled like nothing you'd ever seen before and would never see again. "T-Thorin?"
He let out a long breath, looked around the table and then back at you. "I love you, Y/N. More than I have ever loved anyone. I told you that I wanted us to be a family. A complete family. Will you marry me?" Your eyes widened. Of everything you'd been expecting, that wasn't it. Silence. You couldn't form a sentence. "Y/N, are you alright?" You shook your head, your gazing snapping up to Thorin. "I think I'm in labor."
