Part 4
"Eating for two will do that to you." Thorin's pizza dropped to the plate. "You're pregnant?!"
You barely nodded before Thorin lunged at you, kissing you fiercely. You didn't even register the plate stuck in between you until you heard, "Oh, come on!" You and Thorin broke apart, but didn't move to sit up. You glanced over and saw your son standing there. "Do you have to do that in front of me?" You arched a brow. "You weren't supposed to be home. What are you doing here anyway?"
"I forgot my extra controller. I guess you told him about the baby?" You grinned and nodded, pushing Thorin a bit so you could sit up. Only then did you realize you had pizza stuck to your shirt. "Great," you muttered before you registered what Y/S/N had said. "Wait a minute. How did you know?" you asked, while picking the pizza off. He laughed.
"You weren't exactly subtle, Mom. I saw the test in the trash. I'm gonna be a big brother!" He did a little happy dance and ran off toward his room. You shook your head fondly. Thorin still hadn't spoken, so you glanced at him.
He was sporting a silly grin that refused to disappear. "I'm going to be a father," he whispered, "I am, right?" You laughed softly and nodded. "Yes, you are." Thorin reached out to place his hand on your belly, but you stopped him. He gave you a look of confusion. "Pizza sauce," you answered before lifting your shirt slightly so he could feel your stomach.
"Are you going to be even more lovey-dovey now?" Y/S/N asked when he reappeared, controller in hand. You and Thorin both laughed at the interruption. "Probably. Now go have fun. We're taking you out for breakfast in the morning." Y/S/N couldn't get out of the house fast enough. For the rest of the evening, you and Thorin hardly moved. He couldn't believe that you were having a baby. His baby.
He'd wanted to be a father for so long. He had his nephews, but it wasn't the same. And to have a child with a woman that not only already had experience with being a mother, but a woman that he loved made Thorin feel like he was flying.
The next morning was a different story. Thorin had to be the one on the ground so he could keep you from flying off. You were nervous about telling Y/S/N about Thranduil and how it would impact your relationship with Thorin. You were quiet as you sat across from your son with your hand in Thorin's. Thorin could feel you shaking and gave your hand a gentle squeeze.
"Mom? What's wrong?" You took a deep breath and launched into your story. Y/S/N listened quietly, but Thorin could see the boy starting to shake. Whether with rage or nervousness, Thorin didn't know. After you finished, you all sat in silence for a few minutes. Y/S/N refused to even meet your gaze. Thorin's heart broke for you both. He pressed a kiss to your temple. "I want to see him," Y/S/N said suddenly, making you inhale sharply. You nodded anyway. "If that's what you want." Y/S/N told you it was.
"But I want to talk to him outside of school. Can...can I ask him to come over so I can talk to him away from other people?" You glanced at Thorin, who shrugged. "I think that would be okay. You can call him after breakfast." As if on cue, the waiter arrived with your food. The atmosphere seemed to lighten as the three of you ate. Y/S/N kept asking questions about the baby which made Thorin smile. As excited as he was, he wasn't sure he was going to be able to wait patiently for nine months to be up.
A few hours later, the three of you were back home and waiting for the doorbell to ring. Thorin spent more time at your house than his own, so to him, it was home too. You physically jumped when the doorbell finally did ring, signaling Thranduil's arrival. "I'll get it, shall I?" Thorin asked you softly and you nodded.
Thorin disappeared and reappeared a moment later, Thranduil following behind. "Hello, Y/N," he greeted before turning to Y/S/N. His icy blue eyes scanned the boy's form before settling on his face. Y/S/N had his hands balled into fists at his sides. "You've grown into a fine looking young man." You rolled your eyes at his attempt to start a conversation with Y/S/N. The teenager glanced at you and you smiled softly. "Thank you," he muttered through clenched teeth.
After a moment of awkward silence, Y/S/N asked, "Why are you here? At my school? Mom said I had a choice whether or not I want to see you." Thranduil arched a perfect brow. "That was our agreement." Y/S/N nodded. "I know. So why did you have to show up? You upset my mom and that's not okay."
"Your mother gets upset far too easily. Besides, you are my son and I have a right to see you." It took everything in you not to yell at him. This was your son's chance to confront his father. So, you kept quiet, grasping Thorin's hand tightly. Y/S/N shook his head. "NO! You gave up that right when you told Mom you didn't want kids!" Thranduil kept his usual stoic expression, but his eye twitched slightly. It was the only indication that he was upset.
"Do not yell at me, boy. I am your father." Once again, Y/S/N shook his head. "You may be my biological father, but you've never been a father to me. Thorin is more of a father than you are!" Thorin's grip on your hand tightened when Thranduil's eyes flicked over to him. "Dating your student's mother, Durin? Nepotism at its finest."
"I earn my grades, you jack-" You cleared your throat, cutting off your son's swear. "Sorry, Mom." He turned back to Thranduil. "Thorin has never given me a grade I haven't earned. I make Bs and Cs in his class because those are the grades I earn. He is not giving me better grades just because he's dating my mom, so leave that out of this. This is about you and me."
"Fine. Now, how about we stop all this yelling and talk about this like reasonable adults. You are practically an adult anyway." You watched the tension leave Y/S/N's body. "Fine. I know all the yelling upsets my mom. Did you even think to ask if I wanted to see you? I'm happy with my life. It was just me and Mom and we were happy. Then, Thorin came along and made us even happier and now, I'm going to be a big brother. Would you really ruin that by not giving me a choice?"
You had to sniffle at how well your son was handling this. "I told you that you've done a good job raising him," Thorin whispered in your ear. You smiled. "Thranduil," you said softly, making your ex-husband look at you. "Why don't you try and get to know your son a little? It is Y/S/N's choice in the end, but he is your son." You stood up and headed for the kitchen. "We'll leave you two to work it out." You entered the kitchen with Thorin close behind.
"Are you alright?" You nodded. "I'm fine. I am worried about Y/S/N." Thorin wrapped an arm around your shoulders. "I know, love. But he'll be fine." You leaned into him and cried a little. You blamed the pregnancy hormones. While you waited, the two of you discussed plans for the baby. You talked for what felt like hours, but was probably only a few minutes, when you heard the front door close and Y/S/N walked into the kitchen.
"Everything okay?" Y/S/N nodded. "We talked. He wants to spend a week with me after school gets out. I told him I'd think about it. He told me that he'd leave me alone at school until I make up my mind and he wouldn't do anything to mess with you and Thorin. I think he really wants to try, Mom." You stood up and kissed his temple. "You do what you feel his right. I will support whatever decision you make."
"Thanks, Mom. Now, I was thinking." You arched a brow and he continued. "We're gonna need to move. As much as I want to be a big brother, I really don't want to share my room with a baby." You laughed. He was right. Your small two bedroom home was undoubtedly going to be too small once the baby came. "Why don't you move in with me?" Thorin asked, taking you both by surprise.
"You mean that?" Thorin shrugged. "I have more than enough room. I live in the house I inherited from my father. It is large enough for all of us and then some. If you want to." You slowly wrapped your arms around Thorin's neck. "I think I'd like that." You kissed him gently before Y/S/N sighed. "I'm in, especially if it can get me a room far away from this," he said, gesturing to you and Thorin and making you both laugh.
