Part 10

Thorin froze. It couldn't be. Not yet. You weren't due for another four weeks at least. "Are you sure?" You glared. "Thorin! I know it's been a long time, but I'm pretty sure I remember what a contraction feels like," you snapped, breaking him out of his trance. He got up and took your hands in his, helping you up. "Y/S/N, you're going to have to drive. Thorin can't with his cast," you said, trying to remain as calm as possible. That got even harder when a contraction hit. "Son of a -" you cut yourself off, not wanting to curse in front of your or Dis' sons. You would think it would be easier the second time around, but considering it had been nearly seventeen years since the first time, it wasn't really.

"Come on, we'll get you to the car. Thorin, go get her bag." Thorin tightened his grip on your hands and you smiled. "Hey," you cooed, making him look at you, "Go on. We won't leave without you. I promise." Thorin nodded and ran to grab your bag, the question he'd asked forgotten in his mind for the moment.

The drive to the hospital seemed impossibly long and, by the time you got there, the contractions had stopped. "Sounds like false labor. Braxton-Hicks contractions. We should get you checked out, just in case," the nurse told you with a smile. She got you in a wheelchair and wheeled you back to a room, Thorin hot on your heels. You had never seen the man so flustered. "Thorin," you whispered in an effort to calm him. He gave you a tense smile. "I'm worried, Y/N. What if something's wrong?"

"Nothing is wrong, Thorin. I'm sure the girls are fine. Lots of women have false labor. We'll get it checked out and then we'll go home. Okay?" Thorin nodded as you approached the room. The nurse and Thorin helped you onto the examination table. As you waited for the doctor, you could tell Thorin was still worried. "Thorin, please calm down. I'm fine. The girls are okay."

The doctor came in, all smiles, which did nothing to calm your anxious boyfriend. "Hello, Ms. Y/L/N. So, sounds like you had some Braxton-Hicks contractions. Why don't we take a look and make sure. Then, we'll get an ultrasound to check on your little princesses." You nodded and Thorin returned to your side. He took your hand in his and kissed your temple. "Love, I think we've spent more time in the hospital together than not." You giggled. "That's true."

The doctor wheeled in the ultrasound machine and placed the cold gel on your stomach. His eyes scanned the screen, searching to make sure nothing was wrong with your babies. "Well, everything appears to be norm- well, what do we have here?" Your eyes widened in fear and Thorin gripped your hand tighter.

Meanwhile, Y/S/N was pacing in the lobby. "What's taking so long? It was false labor they said. Shouldn't they be out by now?" Dis grabbed your son's hand. "Y/S/N, relax. I'm sure your mom is alright. She's a strong-willed woman. She'd have to be to put up with my brother for so long," Dis told him and he laughed. "Thanks, Aunt Dis." Fili stood and clapped Y/S/N's shoulder. "Come on. Why don't we take my car and go get something for your sisters? It'll get your mind off it." Y/S/N reluctantly agreed and let Fili lead him away.

"Mom, do you really think Auntie Y/N is gonna be okay?' Kili asked, leaning his head on his mother's shoulder. "Of course she will." Inside, Dis didn't feel as confident, but she knew she had to remain strong until they heard from you. Luckily, it wouldn't take long. It was Thorin she saw first. Dis got up and rushed over. Thorin looked like he was going to faint any minute. "Thorin? You okay?" You were smirking up at him from your wheelchair. "He's fine. We've just had a bit of shocking news is all."

"Well, what do we have here?" Your eyes widened in fear and Thorin gripped your hand tighter. The doctor grinned. "Looks like you've been misinformed, Ms. Y/L/N." Your brows furrowed and your lips downturned. "What do you mean?" The doctor pointed to the screen. "You're not having two girls." You blinked in surprise. "I'm not? Then what? A boy and a girl?" The doctor shook his head. "You're having-"

"Triplets," Thorin said, his voice barely above a whisper, but it echoed in the nearly empty waiting room anyway. "She-We are having triplets." Dis and Dwalin were now wearing identical expressions of shock. "W-What?" You nodded and passed the sonogram to Dis.

"Apparently one has been hiding behind the girls this whole time." Dis took the picture and grinned. "Well then. Guess we need to get you home and start prepping for a third baby. Oh, and we should call Fili or Y/S/N and tell them to head home when they're done with whatever they're doing." With Dwalin's help, you managed to get out of the wheelchair and walk toward your car. Thorin trailed behind you, his eyes still wide and his face ashen."Triplets," he whispered again.

(a/n: What do you think??? Surprise! The gender of the last baby won't be revealed until they are born, but there are only a couple of parts left.)
