A really quick HP (sort of) rant

Okay. Because I cannot stop thinking about this I have to write it out.

The fact that Harry is so privileged at school never really bothered me while I was reading the books. It actually kinda made sense to me at the time. Of course I was still in elementary when I read them, and after sitting down and starting to reread them again, something bothers me.

WHO THE HECK WAS THE FREAKING SEEKER BEFORE HARRY?!? WAS THERE A SEEKER BEFORE HIM? DID SOMEONE GET KICKED OFF OF THE TEAM WHEN MCGONAGALL SHOWED UP AND WAS LIKE, "Hey, Oliver! Guess what? I found this first year with natural talent at the game and he's better than everyone else in our house because I watched him play one time out of my window! He'll win it for us every time!"

     ......okay. Granted Harry did win more games than he lost, but still!

Let's just say that there was a seventh year who was seeker before Harry. In all honesty? This doesn't make sense to me. I don't know exactly how the whole Quiditch team captain thing works, but as far as my brain can tell it seems to be a seniority thing. Whoever has been on the team the longest is captain; of course, it could be that the captain picks his favorite player and that's the captain when he's graduated. I don't know. Either way, a seventh year being the seeker doesn't make sense to me. It's obvious that Wood has been captain for at least a year before Harry shows up, and almost entire team you meet in the first book are all younger than him. He literally was a fourth year the previous year, and I feel like to a seventh year being picked by a person three years younger than you would be odd. I don't know. That's just my opinion. Besides, if you're a seventh year just joining the team, I don't see the purpose. Even if you're great at it, you're only going to be there for one year, and that's not giving yourself enough time to try and make it so you can have a decent career off of it, so why would you bother? Sixth year I guess I understand, but the year before you graduate?

Now let's just say that the seeker did graduate. Oliver had the entire rest of his team lined up when Harry joined. Meaning he'd already had tryouts. There had to at least be a list of people that were good enough to make the team.

I'll be honest with you. The age limits suck. The fact that you have to be in such and such grade before you can do something, or have to take a certain class before you can take it is unfair for certain people. I get that some people are just naturally good at things and that's good for them! Some people definitely deserve to be put in those groups that make you wait. But please, for the sake of everyone else;
Wait.

"But Fantasy! If I'm just a naturally good dancer, singer, flier, etc. I should totally be allowed to do things other people have to wait years to do (exclusive dance classes, choirs, Quiditch teams, etc.). I mean, I'm obviously the best, and I deserve that recognition!"

Like I just said the whole limit thing is stupid, and yes. I get that you've been taking lessons for voice since you could talk, and that's good on you, but there are other people that have been waiting for years to do that exact same thing you're trying to do and have been taking the proper classes, working their butts off, and slowly aging so they can do it. If you're not old enough, and you haven't met all the requirements, I'm sorry. But no. You shouldn't be part of that group. You've just cheated someone who has met every requirement and has been waiting for years to make it into that things out of a slot. Now they have to wait longer. Seriously, Harry. Wait until you've met the requirements. Just please. I speak from experience with these things.

I mean, come on. Imagine a fourth year that's been waiting for a shot at being a seeker ever since he showed up at Hogwarts. He was never quite good enough, and he practiced all freaking summer so he could make the team, went to try outs, was told he had some ruddy brilliant potential, and that he was a shoe in for the team. Now let's imagine he's told he didn't make the cut because someone beat him out. Someone who has never been on a broom before that year, has never practiced a day in his life, and isn't even the right age to be allowed to play!

How is that fair to the poor guy who has been waiting forever to make it on to the team?! I get the fact that Harry was good. He was great, and that I wouldn't have minded it at all if he'd been the proper age, and had actually done the tryout! He didn't even have any pressure on him with everyone and their dog coming to watch him make it, he didn't have to wait to be allowed.

HARRY OH MY GOSH WHY. THIS IS NOT OKAY. IT USED TO BE BUT NOW IT ISN'T FAIR, AND DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED OK THE WHAT IF THERE WAS ALREADY A PERSON PICKED OUT FOR THE JOB WHO HAD ALREADY GONE TO PRACTICES AND THEN OLIVER SHOWS UP AN KICKS THEM OFF OF THE TEAM BECAUSE GUESS WHAT? A FREAKING FIRST YEAR CAN PLAY BETTER THAN YOU EVER COULD!

And then seriously. How humiliating would that be though. Seriously; Harry, Wood, McGonagall. I get how big Quiditch is to you, but that is just soooo....
