Chapter 9
It was Friday afternoon and you were walking home from school, daydreaming about how your date with Freddy would go. You imagined walking into the movies with him, grabbing popcorn, and accidentally holding hands, and then you'd look at each other at the perfect moment when the screen turned bright white and-
"Yo Y/N! Whatcha thinking about there? You're imaginary prince?" scoffed the Bryer brothers walking up towards you. You cringed and walked faster. They ran up behind you and grabbed your bag, pulling it off you and looking through it's contents. "OOH! Jackpot! I found her phone, let's see the search history!" Brett said, typing something on your phone. (A/N: Reader: Well how did he know my password? Me:Don't question may writing! This is your story it's not my idea how it plays out...oh wait-nevermind.)
You jumped for you phone but it was too late. Brett smiled at your phone and motioned for his brother to come over and look at it. "Look, CRUSH X READER ONESHOTS! Who's the unlucky guy L/N?"
"N-No no one," you stuttered.
"Whatever, I'm bored let's go see if there's any other freshmen to beat up at the playground today,"said Burke. He tossed your bag on the ground along with everything else. Like your phone. On the hard. Cold. Concrete. You shrieked and grabbed your phone, the screen was shattered. You sighed "I'll have to take it to the repair shop," you thought.
You walked over to Verizon, because it was only a two blocks away from where you lived and asked if there was anything they could do to fix it. They said they could just put on a new screensaver but they would need to keep the phone overnight as they were very busy right then and wouldn't have time fix it. You said that was fine and walked the ret of the way home
***Time Skip***
You saw your dad once you walked in. For some reason, he was all dressed up in a grey suit and a black tie, you had NEVER seen him put a lot of effort into his appearance, only in the wedding photos. "You clean up nice," you finally said.
"Well I had to look nice on a special dinner date with my daughter," he said smiling.
You frowned, "Dinner date? I forgot we had one! It isn't tonight, is it?" you asked nervously.
Now it was your dad's turn to frown, "It is actually. Do you have other plans?" he asked.
"Well yes," you said.
He sighed, "Y/N...this is really important can you reschedule your other plans and just come with me on dinner date tonight and do the other thing tomorrow.
You thought about it a minute, then said, "Sure, I'm going to put on something a little dressier." You rushed up to your room. After flopping on your bed and groaning with your hands covering your face, you reached into your pocket for your phone.
And them you remembered
It wasn't there.
And now you had no way to reach Freddy to cancel your plans! You groaned loudly again. "Everything ok up there?" called your dad. (A/N: Omg imagine what was going through your dad's mind. No actually don't!)
"Yeah! Everything's fine," you called back. You sighed and made your way to your closet to put on your only dress. Freddy was nice, he'd understand. He knew you better than to think you just showed him up right? Yeah! Right! You'd just text him what happened tomorrow or go by hi house. That sounded good. You finished putting on your dress and some nicer shoes, as well as a little lip gloss and then ran down the stairs as you heard a car honk from your driveway.
***Time Skip because I Couldn't Think of a Car Ride Scene***
You stepped into the restaurant with your dad and looked around. It was one of those really expensive ones, where the lights looked like mini chandeliers above each table, and the patio in the back looked like it had a garden. You breathed in and out deeply a few times, crowded places made you anxious. "All right Y/D/N? (A/N:your dad's name) Right this way please," said a waitress leading you to a small booth in the main area. She handed out the menus and you ordered drinks. Your dad seemed nervous but tried to make some small talk.
"Soon how was school?" he asked.
"Meh. Like school I guess," you replied.
"You still friends with Andi and Cyrus? How are they doing?" he asked.
"Yeah, they're good," you said. The waitress brought your drinks and you ordered your food.
"Good. And you've been getting good grades?" your dad said. He seemed to really be freaking out now and it was starting to scare you.
"Yeah..." You mentally made a note to not bring up your recent science test. You sat in an awkward silence for several minutes occasionally making comments about the restaurant decor.
"Well that's wonderful. Good grades should get you into a good college you know!" he finally said," What about boys? Anyone catch your eye?" he wiggled his eyebrows.
You choked on your lemonade. "Ahhh! Ok why is this so important? We're just sitting in a fancy restaurant with fancy people and fancy food in fancy clothes and we could just be having this conversation at home in sweatpants eating Chinese takeout! What do you need to tell me that is so bad I have to eat an amazingly expensive meal that doesn't even taste that good for me to forgive you?" you yelled finally losing it. You were still pretty bitter about missing your date with Freddy.
"Well...ok. You're right, something is wrong. I don't really want to tell you but I thought some nice food might lessen the pain. Because you're a teenage girl and-you know," he gestured ti the waiter bringing your meals, "Food." You smiled softly.
"So I brought you hear to tell you that. Your mother's deployment in another country is over," he said. You gasped. "BUT. She's taking a different position in Alaska," he said.
You frowned, "So how long we'll she be there?"
He wiped his brow and adjusted his clothes, "Two years."
Your mind went blank. You suddenly couldn't here what he was saying, what ANYONE was saying. You couldn't breathe, so you ran out to the back patio running into the small garden, where luckily nobody was taking a stroll. You sat on a bench. You weren't crying, it was like you were to sad to cry. So you just sat there. Drowning in your thoughts, the only thing you could really think was "How much better a night would I be having right now if I were with Freddy?'"
***At Freddy's House***
Freddy hobbled through the door, an annoyed but hurt look on his face.
"Bro! You're back! How was your movie date with Y/N?" asked daily wiggling his eyebrows.
"Oh yes! I know it was fantastic because you're so sweet and so is Y/N so you two would be the perfect couple! Are you going to get married now?" asked Darla hopping up and down.
"I'll right let's not get ahead of ourselves," said Mary strolling into the foyer, "But seriously Freddy spill! If you could think of one word to describe your date, what would it be?"
"OK," said Freddy, "nonexistent." He stormed up the stairs and left his family totally and completely confused, arguing amongst themselves about what could have possible happened.
After about an hour, Billy went up to their room, slowly opening the door. "Go away," said a muffled Freddy. His voice probably was supposed to sound firm but all it sounded was wobbly.
"Excuse me Freeman, you're not the only one who sleeps in here," said Billy.
Freddy sat up, "can't you go sleep on the couch or something? I want to be alone,"
Billy sat down next to him, "You know something? Before I found you guys I didn't really talk to anyone about anything, but you're my family. And the more time I spend wth you the more I realize that once you start opening up ore, your problems don't seem so big," said Billy, "Plus, you know it's a Friday night. Eugene OWNS the couch."
Freddy laughed a little, "Facts. Well, I waited at the theater for like two hours. I didn't leave until the movie actually finished and I never even went all the way inside because I was worried if she walked in and didn't know where I was she would just leave. But no. She just never showed up. It's my fault, I probably said something weird or wrong that turned her off. Maybe I make too many superhero references or say to many random facts. I was probably deluding myself into thinking she could like me too anyways. But just that morning when she defended me- maybe..."he trailed off before shaking his head, "But never mind, it was a stupid idea.
Billy shook his head. "No she's the stupid one. For standing up a super smart, helpful, kind, and amazing brother. Who is also a total idiot sometimes. BUT, if you want me to go find her house and beat her up just say the word."
Freddy smiled,"Nah. I could do that too if I wanted too. But I don't. I'm still upset, but it's not like I want her dead or anything extreme like that,"Freddy said.
"Ok...Well just know...I'm here. If you ever want to talk or anything, just tell me, ok?" asked Billy standing up and patting Freddy's shoulder affectionately. Freddy smiled and nodded, but he was still hurting a lot inside. He assumed you were off laughing some where with all your friends, while he lay here in bed overthinking every time he ever talked to you and how he might have misread signals. But he didn't know that you too were laying in your own bed trying to play all of you moments with him over in your head for an entirely different reason.
You both lay in your beds, feeling depressed and alone, unaware that the other person was feeling exactly the same way.
A/N: This is a very depressing chapter, so I'm sorry. But I promise, these last two chapters will sort out all those problems! This story does have a happy ending. :) Anyway, see you all on Friday! And as always, don't forget to comment and vote!
