Chapter 10: Eyes

Ace was sharply awoken as he was slammed to the ground. Cold hands held him down and his head was forced to look at Amon, who was being held down similarly.

"It's such a shame," Yun said, "that I'll have to do this."

A cheekbone was cracked. It was loud, at least to Amon. Amon cried out.

Amon screamed as Yun wiggled his finger under his eyeball.

Ace watched with wide eyes and Amon's left eyeball was pulled out. Snapping veins splattered blood all around, and Ace could only watch in terror.

Yun held the eyeball up, satisfied before turning to Ace.

"Your hair is already in your eyes," Yun said, pushing the hair out of Ace's eyes and cracking his cheekbone, "it will make the perfect eyepatch."

Ace screamed as Yun removed his eye, taking a much longer look at his than Amon's.

"You might be blind, but that's the price to pay." Yun purred as he positioned the organ over Amon's empty socket.

Yamato ran.

He ran until he was stopped by something familiar.

He stopped by a door, wide open to a room. On a chair, lay a red bow and holographic jacket.

"Oh, god." Yamato said. He walked in and picked up the items, feeling the tears and dirt on them.

He'd surly kill them all now.

"Moroyama!" He yelled, running back to him. Moroyama looked at him, then the items, then back.

"Tang Yun will die to my hands." Yamato said coldly. Moroyama nodded in understanding.

"Now hurry up and find my nephews!"

"Yes boss!"

Raven ran like the wind itself, like a tsunami, like a hurricane. She had just gotten word that Ace and Amon were nowhere to be found, then in the same vein, a scream that she only assumed the worst for echoed through the miracle.

She could handle Xuan and Yuuhime's injuries. They would bounce back, eventually. They would.

But fuck, not the kids.

She saw Yun's violet hair and immediately raised her fist and smashed his head as soon as Yamato struck him with lighting.

The shadow clones that Yun used to hold down the twins were now gone. Raven felt her skin begin to boil, but she ignored the pain to grab Ace.

Yun limbed over in pain, so Yamato took the opportunity to grab Amon.

"WHY DID YOU BRING THEM HERE?!" Raven roared.

"I was simply following your rules." Yamato replied coldly, clutching Amon close.

Raven scowled as she kicked Yun down as he tried to get back up. He coughed at her heel hitting into his gut.

"Follow your common sense!" She went to attack Yamato, but stopped upon hearing Ace begin to softly cry.

"Ace!"

He clung to her, trying to touch his eye. But it was gone.

Whilst Raven comforted Ace, Yamato ran away. Amon was hyperventilating, confused and dazed.

"You're ok," Yamato said, "as long as I'm here, you'll be ok."

Ace stared at nothing in particular. He slowly raised his hand to his bandaged eye socket, curiously feeling it again. Soft and corse, it felt odd that it couldn't bug his eye.

"I'm glad that it was only your eye that his hurt," Ahmed said softly as he cleaned Ace's face, "and not something more important."

"Like my heart?"

"Yes, I-"

"It still got ripped out..." Ace mumbled, looking at his hands. He wanted to grab Amon, but he wasn't there. Ahmed silently finished the cleaning, walking Ace out to Raven.

"To subside the pain, give him these." Ahmed said, holding out a pill bottle. "He can't have more than two a day."

Raven nodded in understanding, "What about his bandages?"

"I'll show you how to put them on when you need to change his."

"Thank you, Ahmed."

Ace silently watched them talk, taking Raven's hand without any argument when she offered it to him.

"And that's all I have for your check up." Ahmed said, nodding to Raven.

"Do you think you're ready to see mom and dad?" She asked him softly.

He nodded a little, reaching up to feel his bandages.

"Try not to touch them," Ahmed said, "or you'll have to change them more."

Ace pulled his hand down slowly. The bandages were itchy. He just wanted them off.

"Come on," Raven said, "your parents might be awake."

"Why wouldn't they be?" Ace asked.

"Has no one told you yet?" She sighed and rubbed the bridge of her nose. "Ace, they're really hurt right now."

Ace didn't know how to react because he didn't really understand what she meant. He tugged on her arm.

"I wanna see them."

***

Nights passed as Ace curled up in bed by his mom and dad's motionless bodies. Their beeping machines kept him up, zig-zags coming and going from their screens, but the doctors said that the beeps and zig-zags were good.

The first weeks, he cried himself to sleep. At present, he didn't cry quite as much but tiny tears still lingered on his cheeks every night.

There was no kids he could talk to, and the adults were only so fun for so long. He mostly sat with his parents, reading or something. He sparsely wanted to see people.

Still, some days, it was too lonely to bear.

One night, no one but he was there with his parents. He snuggled next to his mom, feeling her soft breath. The beeps were normal, so were the zig-zags. It didn't bother him that her cold arm was around him, though he didn't know how it got there. He just pressed closer to her as he let small tears tickle his face.

"Shhh," She told him, very drowsy. He bit his cheeks, too tired to realize what was happening.

The next morning, though, Yuuhime's awakening caused a stir.

About three nurses crowded Yuuhime, making sure she really was ok. Raven was so relieved, she couldn't stand still and went out to tell everyone the news in person. Friends came and waited outside, anxious to see Yuuhime ok.

It all made Ace tired. He simply sat in Yuuhime's lap, sniffling into her chest and clutching her shirt.

"I'm so happy you're ok, Ace," Yuuhime murmured to him once the nurses left. "But where's Amon?"

"We don't know." Raven said as she came in. "I don't want to give you more stress, but hiding it would be worse."

Yuuhime's eyes widened, clutching Ace close. Ling, Leora, and Mona ran in and went around Yuuhime.

"You're ok!" Leora said, a big smile across her face. She was crying, wiping her eyes and talking through her hiccups. Mona sniffled, rubbing her arm and smiling at Yuuhime.

"Lewis insisted on going to get your favorite ice cream," Ling said, "he'll be here soon."

Yuuhime smiled at them all, cradling Ace, then seeming to remember something and began to look around.

"Xuan?" She said hoarsely. "Tang Xuan? Where..."

"Right beside you." Raven moved aside and pointed to Xuan's motionless body. Yuuhime reached out to him, stopping only because she felt her legs give way. She let out a groan, being pulled back down by Ling.

"You still need to rest," He said, worry in his brow.

"But my..."

Ace gave Yuuhime a hug, his eyes big and watery. She stared down at him then finally slumped down.

"Will Xuan be ok?" She asked.

"We can only hope." Mona said. Yuuhime looked over at Xuan again, breathing as slowly as she could to calm herself down.

Doctors crowded Amon. Only the best, according to Yamato. They expertly cared for his eye, and gave him ice for his bruises.

"Move aside!" Yamato yelled. The doctors moved to the side, looking down as he approached Amon.

He was accompanied by two other espers. Moroyama, and a blonde woman Amon didn't recognize. Regardless, he slinked away from his uncle as he approached.

"Amon," Yamato said cooly, yet softly, "are you ok?"

Amon nodded, rubbing a bruise on his bicep.

"That's good to hear." As he said this, Yamato presented him a eyepatch. "This will go over your eye."

"L-like a pirate?"

"Yes, the most beautiful and powerful pirate to ever walk to earth. Oh! One more thing you'll like," Yamato produced Amon's sheep toy.

Amon's eyes widened, reaching out for the toy. Yamato placed it in Amon's arms, a small smile on his thin lips. His expression darkened, though, and he cleared his throat.

"Amon. I have terrible news for you." He said. He held out his hands, and his companions put Xuan's jacket and Yuuhime's bow in his hands.

"Why do you have mama and dad's stuff...?" Amon asked quietly.

"An evil man has killed them."

Amon's eye widened in terror. He began to cry, hyperventilating and shaking his head.

"No..." he gasped. Yamato gave him a soft look and laid the jacket on Amon's shoulders and the bow onto his tail. Then, he pressed his hands onto Amon's shoulders, gentle as if Amon was a porcelain doll.

"The man who killed your parents will pay." Yamato said. Amon stared at Yamato, hiccuping. He stared into his eyes.

A fire that could burn the world existed in those eyes.

And that's what Yamato would do just to see Tang Yun to justice.
