Excuse me, Mr.Red Hood?" One of my students perked.
I looked behind me at the boy. He had shaggy brown hair and Asian skin. Noteworthy of being the son of the Martian Manhunter.
"Yes, hello Mr.Jones?" I perked.
"You remember my name?" He asked.
"Indeed, come sit," I say motioning him to the seat beside me.
He sits down and fidgeted.
"I'm so sorry if I woke you," I apologized.
"Oh? What, no," he assured me.
"Then why are you up at," I checked my clock," oh my! 12 in the morning!"
"I was, worried about you," he admitted.
"There's nothing to be worried about darling," I told him.
"Hey, I wanna ask something," he sighed.
"Mmhmm?" I hummed.
"Is it OK to fear?" He asked shaking.
I stayed silent for an instant, than answered, "of course. What do you fear?"
He looked up at me and smiled. He pointed at the glass door.
"I'm scared someone will come and get us," he explained.
"Oh, why?" I ask.
"I don't know, it seems stupid but, I feel like my dad's searching for me," he explained.
I stiffened. He is.
"Don't worry about that! We'll protect you all," I said.
But who's going to protect us? No one.
"Heh, yeah. I guess that's a stupid fear," he laughed it off.
No, it's totally normal. I'm afraid of it too.
"Don't worry about it," I laughed with him.
"Wanna hear another stupid fear I have?" He asked.
I just nodded and he smiled and took my hand. He squeezed it.
"I'm afraid of getting out of bed in the morning. I'm afraid of something being there when I wake up or something happened to everyone else while we all slept and I wasn't apart of it. Just for the sole purpose of because I'm not hunan. I'm a martian," he admitted.
"Is that weird?" He asked.
I chuckled than shook my head,"no. It's not weird. It happens to all of us. Just because we aren't the same as everyone else. We aren't normal. Not anymore."
"Is it weird to be afraid of love?" He asked.
I burst out laughing, "oh heck no! I'm still afraid of love!"
He smiled at me. "Good to know!" He laughed with me.
"Who's the girl counselors?" He asked.
"Lady Thor and Lady Wolverine," I nodded.
He made an O with his mouth and nodded.
"Hey," Steven popped in.
"Oh, Green Lantern!" I gasped lightly.
"Did we wake you?" Aaron Jones asked.
"Kinda, what you two doing up so late?" He asked.
"Hmmm," I hummed turning to Aaron," I don't know. Why are we awake."
Aaron laughed nervously.
"Go on Aaron," I told him.
He nodded and got up, running up the stairs back to "my room".
"And you?" Steven asked.
"Nah, just looking for any strays," I shrugged.
"Like yours?" He asked.
I nodded with a shrug. Then a small crash and a bump came from the stairs going down to Caster's, PBat's and Sushix's rooms. A girl's laugh echoed and a guy shushing her. I gave Steven a look and then stood up.
"Hello," I said.
They both suddenly went silent.
"Come on out, we know you're there," Steven chimed in.
A girl and a boy stepped around the corner and walked up in front of us.
"Mind explaining?" I asked.
"We, uh, it's our first time! We swear we didn't do any thing!" The girl tried.
"You're quick to the assumption we care about that," I said.
"I'm disappointed in you Ian," Steven huffed.
"I'm sorry," he apologized.
"He your's?" I asked Steven.
"No, Jose's," he said.
I nodded and met the girl's eyes.
"You're to Lady Thor's, correct?" I asked.
She nodded slowly.
"Hmm, figured," I sighed.
"Please don't tell!" She begged.
Steven's brow furrowed. I sighed and sat back down. I waved Steven down with me.
"What?" Steven asked.
"Just hoping I can make 'em antsy," I joked.
Steven laughed and nodded. He looked at something on the small table in front of us. He reached forward and picked up a pile of paper all stapled together. He scanned them and the kids stepped backward.
"Don't," I warned them still staring at Steven.
They froze and stared at us scared. Steven glanced up and smirked. He looked back down and the handed it to me.
"Remember this?" He asked.
I looked at it. It was the layout of the hall. I smiled and flipped the page to look at the two noteworthy rooms on it. Mine and Jess's. Noteworthy because we both had ways to get out of the room if anything went wrong. Any teleporters broke or if we got surrounded. But also, we're the only ones that still really had anything in our rooms. With the exception of Caster and a bit of Kala.
"Are door's an exception?" I asked.
"I don't know, I say their not," Steven shrugged.
I groaned and looked back at the students. They seemed interested in the conversation. I stood up and handed Steven back the paper. I spun around and looked the girl in the eye.
"You swear this is your first time? You swear on your life?" I asked.
"Yes sir," she said, clearly trying to keep her voice from wavering.
"Ok, but if I find out it wasn't you'll get a bad punishment for lying to me," I warned.
She just nodded. I turned to the boy who was fidgeting with a web in his hands.
"Spiderman?" I asked.
He jumped lightly and looked up with a nod. I 'humphed' and looked at Steven.
"Just let him go?" I asked.
"He'll get in trouble with Jose if we do for being out this late so I say it doesn't matter too much if we give him a pass," Steven shrugged.
"Reasonable," I shrugged.
I walked into the "hangout area" as they call it. I pulled open a drawer at the side of the room and pulled out a single piece of paper.
"Ian Parker," I say.
"Yes sir?" He asked.
"Go on back to your room," I say.
He nods and hurries away.
"Excuse me, what's your name?" I asked the girl.
"Bethenny Prince, I'm just called Beth though," she said.
"Wonder Woman?" Steven cringed.
Beth nodded with a smug look on her face.
"Eh," I shrugged.
"Dude!" Steven hissed, knowing full well she wasn't someone to mess with.
And having her daughter ment we were messing with her. I shrugged and pulled out a pen from my back pocket.
"How'd you do that? Their's noway to hide that!" She gawked.
"I know," I laughed.
