Plot

(Pre-1.Movie) The Book of Songs - The Beginning

 Brothers are nervous because their sibling is due to hatch soon --> Rosipuff reassures them that everything is going normally 

o Boys have recently started living with her (no other option #Bergens) 

o Boys already have a band --> they took a break from the band after what happened 

o It is the end of February 

 Sibling hatches (everyone is excited and nervous) --> is a girl + JD comes up with an idea for a name 

 Branch is 8 months old and "sings" for the first time (actually just babbling in rhythm) 

 Branch's 1st hatching day (birthday) + JD shows her fireflies at night (see picture) 

 Branch 13 months: takes first steps 

 Branch 15 months: speaks properly for the first time 

 Branch 19 months (1;7 years): starts imitating her brothers (dancing/singing) --> JD gets the idea that she can join a band 

o During Rehearsal and hears how well they harmonize, remembers the legend of perfect family harmony --> becomes a little obsessed with the idea (begins to change) 

 Branch 23 months: often gets into small arguments between brothers (JD, Spruce, Clay) --> Floyd and Rosipuff try to prevent Branch from noticing too much 

 Two days after her 2nd birthday, Branch's first performance is disaster + brothers leave (Floyd promises to come back) 

 Branch starts to wait at the door more often for her brothers to come back --> Rosipuff tries to distract her + notices in conversation with Branch that she has difficulty putting her feelings into words 

o If she doesn't wait or play with Rosipuff, she practices (singing + dancing) --> thinks that when  get better (perfect), her brothers will come back

 Rosipuff has an idea for a book (Branch has it 4 months after the boys left) --> Branch writes her first song while Grandma is shopping 

o Had a growth spurt which makes her not seem so young anymore 

 Meets Ablaze, Hype, Boom and Trickee (heard them singing while she was practicing) --> starts to make friends with them 

 Have an idea to start a band + think of a name --> Hype asks if she has an idea for a song (knows that she was in BroZone + promises not to tell the others) --> Branch writes 2nd and a few days later 3rd song 

o Others thought the songs were great + say that she really has a talent for that kind of thing 

 Celebrates a birthday (hoped all day that at least one of her brothers would show up) --> Kismet comes to visit (have a group present for Branch) 

o Sing a birthday song together 

 Practices while Grandma does laundry hangs up --> Rosipuff saves her/sacrifices herself #FatefulDay 

o Flower that was always in her hair falls out when she turns grey 

o Chef's face is burned into her memory 

 Some trolls come (have heard scream) --> King Peppy asks what happened + Branch mumbles that Grandma is gone & it's her fault 

 Peppy offers to come to his pot + Branch refuses (would rather be alone) --> Peppy at least accompanies her to Rosiepuff's pot + says that she can come to him any time 

 Branch gets her favorite stuffed animal & sits in one of the armchairs while staring into space + swears that she will never sing again --> finds the strength to write in her book after a while (4th entry) 

 Kismet comes to visit to check on her + Branch sends them away & leaves the band  

 A few days later there is a meeting + Peppy says that the escape tunnel is ready & everyone should only pack the bare essentials as they will be leaving at dawn

 Branch begins packing backpack (has packed something from each of her brothers, some photos, food, a blanket, some clothes) + becomes melancholy as she wanders around the pot --> writes in book (5th entry) 

 Writes a note for Floyd before leaving house with backpack (holding stuffed animal in arms) + doesn't notice note blown under one of the furniture by breeze as door closes behind her 

 Begins escape --> when trying to dig Bergen's tunnel loses her stuffed animal + is pulled away by an adult when trying to pick it up (lump of earth falls exactly where she wanted to run) --> Must make decision: risk getting her stuffed animal or leave it behind to escape (chooses the latter) 

 Travels 2 days before reaching clearing where new home will be built + Peppy begins placing her with families 

o Often causes problems so is passed from family to family 

• Try to make her being happy "normal" --> often makes them angry 

• Cannot deal with her nightmares/trauma 

• Refuses to interact with them (talking, singing, dancing, hugging) 

• Causes unrest/arguments between own children and Branch

 Wakes up from nightmare (has seen Chef) (has already learned not to scream) + doesn't feel safe (paranoia) hits out 

 Takes Floyd's vest out of backpack & hugs himself + plan for hiding place falls out of inside pocket --> decides to build bunker + writes in book (6th entry) 

 Starts drawing plan + what needs 

 Is brought to Peppy by foster family + he doesn't know what else to do with her (nobody wants to take her in) --> Branch says that there's no need to worry (has already found a solution + just needs a place to sleep until it's ready) 

o Peppy offers her to sleep in his pot 

 Starts digging when he has found the perfect place for hiding place/bunker --> gets other clothes (quickly realizes that dress is not suitable for work) + starts reading books about plants and the like in bad weather 

o It says when which plant is ripe, what effects some things have, etc. 

 4 years have passed since the start of the dig (is forced to take a break due to the weather) + accidentally knocks over backpack, causing her brothers' things to fall out --> begins to wonder if any of them will ever return (slowly begins to doubt Floyd's promise) --> 7th entry

o Often had to re-dig some areas or find a solution to pump out water --> worked on a hatch for the bunker for a while (simple version) to prevent further flooding 

 Teaches herself to sew in order to repair clothes when something is damaged --> often picks herself in the beginning 

 Checks progress against plan + already considers some changes (elevator instead of ladder or steps) --> is disturbed by young Poppy (6) (wants her to play with him and his friends) 

 Branch decides to move into bunker (sleeps in sleeping bag in the wrong bunker/anteroom) --> is happy when he realizes that he can't hear songs/parties 

 Is happy with herself when she finally finishes digging the bunker (feels safe for the first time since escaping) + makes a list of materials needed to build furniture & first supply list 

o weighs up what really needs to be bought in the village and what can find yourself

 Pulls scales/carts behind her as she goes through the village to get things + hears whispering from some trolls (some of them pull their children further away from her) --> ignores this 

 Starts building some furniture (beds, table, chairs) when she returns + can't stop thinking about what she heard --> sits down at the finished table + writes in a book (8th entry) 

o Lets headband out of her hair --> hair falls into her face (similar to Samara from The Ring) 

 Starts to stock up on supplies (decided to collect something every day) + bunker becomes more and more like a real home 

 Makes wooden signs for doors (names are on them) + simply furnishes brothers' rooms 

o has cleared away items she took with her in the respective rooms 

o has added things that she remembers that brothers liked 

 Borrows a book about technology from the library --> starts Draw plans for elevator and safe hatch 

 Is 12 when bird is caught collecting --> is able to save herself (uses hair) + has minor injuries when falling through branches of a tree 

 Runs to her bunker + realizes it is not as safe as they thought --> starts building weapons and traps 

o Has had 1-2 weapons in her hair since day one for emergencies 

 Has nightmares again (worse than before) --> Starts writing down and posting all information about Bergens + Worry/Anxiety (Paranoia) --> --> Starts crashing parties

 Is on her way to her room after a hard day, when she passes doors to rooms for brothers + starts to have different feelings before getting stuck on anger --> starts to take down signs and take personal items out of rooms 

 Throws the things in a box + decides to use rooms more sensibly (more storage rooms) --> is about to throw Floyd's vest in a box too, but can't (anger gone and replaced with sadness) --> hangs in the wardrobe instead 

 Looks sadly at the box before closing it gently and pushing it under the bed --> writes in book (9th entry) 

 Listens to Poppy while collecting (started inviting her to parties a while ago or otherwise scheming with her) + falls down & Branch treats him while saying that the forest is too dangerous for him --> takes him back to the village directly to his father #like in the comico She could only treat his wound provisionally provide for her 

 Is approached by Creek (is alone with him) + he becomes pushy & does not accept his invitation (activity for 2 a.k.a. a date) --> suddenly tries to kiss her + she defends herself 

o She has already noticed that Creek stares at her/looks at her when he follows Poppy with others when he invites her to another party 

 Other trolls come because of noises + Creek lies (claims Branch attacked him for no reason) --> Trolls believe Creek & do not even give Branch a chance to express their point of view + storms off angrily

 When in the bunker he is overwhelmed by various feelings + writes in book (10th entry) 

 Hears knocking & looks to see who it is (is Peppy) --> wanted to know what happened (knows that Branch would never do something like that without a reason) 

 Branch says that it doesn't matter because he wouldn't believe her like everyone else (Creek = normal, social | Branch = grey, outsider) + Peppy insists that she tells him what happened --> offers to talk to Creek + Branch refuses (can sort things out on his own), but thanks her anyway because he listened to her 

 Takes Floyd's vest out of closet and hugs it --> starts wearing vest 

 Is checking traps when suddenly hears noise (is predator) + fights it 

o Surprise attack from shadows 

o Growls as a warning + pulls weapon out of hair 

o Can dodge most attacks, but is easily hit (loses weapon in the process --> bites with teeth)

 She takes care of herself when she is sure that the predator is gone & goes to the village to get new medicine/bandages + runs into Poppy and his friends --> has to listen to stupid comments from them before she brushes them off (she still has something to do) and moves on 

 In the bunker she changes the bandage + sees that there will be another scar (body already slightly overlooked) 

 While sewing clothes, she thinks that others are too naive to know how much danger she is in all the time if she doesn't worry about defense --> writes in book (11th entry) 

 Branch continues with routine + Poppy continues to try to invite her to parties & Creek starts to tease her in front of others + continues to flirt when she is alone (but keeps her distance) 

o She notices that Poppy's invitation cards seem to be getting more and more elaborate 

 Someone is joking with Branch and claims to have seen/heard something have --> Branch crashes party (birthday party where clown runs over) 

 Poppy and friends (Snack Pack) play down her worries + say that she shouldn't always assume the worst 

 Branch gets angry and says that they don't know what to talk about + one day something will happen & then they will turn to her because she is the only one who is preparing 

 As he stomps away he hears whispering and giggling --> in Bunker gets loudly upset about others + suddenly says something that suggests that he has feelings for Poppy

 Stops ranting and wonders where the thought came from --> as she thinks about it more thoughts like that come up + realizes that she has feelings for Poppy 

o Has started saving some of his invitations 

 Can't believe this is happening to her + writes in book (12th entry) 

 Tries to avoid Poppy as best she can and keep conversations short + starts to unconsciously observe when she sees him walking past (while collecting) --> brings herself out of staring when she notices + doesn't realize that Creek saw her 

o She watched Poppy a bit dreamily + blushed when she realized what she had done 

 Sits in bunker frustrated + starts listing reasons why she and Poppy would never work (tries to convince herself of that) --> writes in book (13th entry) 

 Branch sits exhausted in bunker and looks at herself in the mirror (sees that her Crow's feet/worry lines have gotten worse (I don't even remember when they started to appear)) + reflects on the day's events

o Slept badly (woke up from a nightmare) 

o Some of her traps had to be repaired (saw that they weren't broken by a predator) 

o Was invited to a party by Poppy again 

o Was harassed by Creek 

o Was tricked again --> this time crashed a funeral/memorial (feels guilty about it --> remembers that the dead man and the widow's wedding had also been crashed a few years ago) 

o Heard whispering about herself again 

o The anniversary of the incident is coming up soon (victim of Rosiepuff) 

 Starts to wonder why she's doing everything + if she disappeared, no one would notice anyway --> writes in book (14th entry) 

 When she's finished, she looks at an old family photo before bursting into tears
