Saving Yuri

I wake up about 15 minutes earlier than normal, and I wasn't sure why. I was tired since I was only able to get about four to five hours of sleep, if not less. It was definitely worth it, regardless.

I quietly climbed out of the bed to make breakfast for everybody. I was the only one up so far, so I had some time to think about today's upcoming events. I decided to make some pancakes, bacon and scrambled eggs. I almost burnt the pancakes, but it was still edible.

Around the time I typically wake up, Jacob was surprisingly the first to come out of his room.

"Hey, watcha cooking?" he mumbled, still half asleep.

"Ah, just pancakes and all that good stuff," I said.

Then, I had thought of something, thinking of Yuri and the events that come with it. She goes crazy for me, not Jacob. Jacob or any other player like him never showed up in the game; it's just the MC. I wondered if that would interfere with anything important.

A few minutes later, Natsuki and Sayori come out. Sayori still looked a little upset, or it was just that she didn't want to get up. Both were bad in this case, but overall, she looks much better than she has been.

"Good morning sleepy heads. Anyone hungry?" I asked in a cheerful tone.

Immediately, both Natsuki and Sayori said in unison, "ME!"

"Haha, well it's almost done, about five minutes or so," I said.

Jacob helped me ready the food, and it was finished in due time. Natsuki finished the two pancakes she had, and the eggs in less than five minutes, which I wasn't surprised. So did Sayori, which actually surprised me a little. Jacob on the other hand was slowly but surely eating.

We finished and cleaned up the kitchen. I got ready for the nerve-wracking day at school. It was pretty cold out, so we all grabbed a small jacket.

Jacob, however, was still quiet. He looked like he was thinking pretty hard about something, and I was sure on what it was about. Sayori and Natsuki were happily talking about something random that none of us paid no attention to. We made it to the school and went our separate ways.

The day was even quieter than before, and the air felt heavier than usual. My mind flashed back to what Monika explained to us earlier, but I tried to ignore it and move on. It was finally time for the literature club, and I was scared to even walk through the door. I saw Jacob come up behind me, but he ran to the restroom across the hall. I ran to follow him.

He threw up all in the trash can. It reminded me too much of the time Natsuki would've done the same thing, but hopefully, we won't ever have to witness that.

I sat next to him. "Jacob, I know how scary this is, I really do. We've already had to face it twice with Natsuki and Sayori. You know I'll be there for you, and I know you'll be there for me. I want you to think about what I'm about to say."

Jacob looked at me, and I continued. "If it wasn't for you finding a way into the game, there's no way in hell I would've gotten this far. I wouldn't have been able to save Natsuki."

I meant that with all of my heart. He stood up and I did the same. Jacob put his hand out to shake. I returned it and we pulled each other into a hug.

He released me and took a deep breath. "Thank you, Noah."

We exit the restroom and enter the club. Jacob took a deep breath. I could tell he was still nervous, but I don't blame him. This was probably the most important day in the game, and I was scared too.

"J-Jacob!" Yuri said as she ran up to him. I nodded good luck to him and went to find Natsuki, who I found again in the closet. She was on the ground reading manga.

"Hey," I said.

She welcomes me onto the ground beside her and we begin reading the sixth version of Parfait Girls.

"Hey, Noah?" she suddenly asked me.

"Yes?"

She took a deep breath. "How come I've never seen you before you joined the club?"

My heart stopped at the question."Um, why do you want to know?"

"Just curious."

I might as well tell her the truth. I've thought of this moment for a while, so I just said what came to mind.

"I came here for a reason," I started. "I came here because you guys need my and Jacob's help. I came here because all of you need a hero. I came here to get you out of this game."

There it was, the confused expression. Suddenly, my head felt a sharp pain come to it. It felt like a tear, and that was the best I could've explained it.

"What are you talking about?" Natsuki asked. I shook the pain off as much as I could and kept going.

"Natsuki, the world you have been living in is not real. You're in a game, and I'm here to get you out."

This time, a loud noise came from outside, and it sounded like...

My eyes widened. I was sure of it. The game was glitching.

Natsuki, meanwhile, was quiet for a long minute. "Are you serious?"

I twitched my neck. It seemed like I was the only one that noticed. I just played it off as if nothing had happened.

"Yes, but it's no reason to be upset. We're gonna get all of you out of here. Don't worry."

I hug her, and she rests her head on my shoulder. "I trust you."

I was happy she wasn't upset, but sometimes, I don't know if I can trust myself. I can't afford to fail, but right now, today is about saving Yuri, not about getting out of the game.

Not yet, at least.

So far, things have been going far too normal than I had thought. However, I didn't know what Yuri has said to Jacob to this point. He later told me that Yuri has been acting differently, as expected, but nothing too out of the ordinary.

Over the weekend, Monika had texted us that we would be starting back doing poems for now. So we all wrote one, and begin sharing them. Jacob comes up to me and surprisingly suggests that we save Yuri for last. I agree, and I tell him that Natsuki knows that she's in the game now.

Jacob looked at me with a dumbfounded expression. "She knows? Was that what that sound was?"

"You heard it too?"

"Monika mentioned something about a glitch," he explained. "Natsuki is self-aware now. It could be the game's way of fixing the issue."

I nodded and suggested we begin sharing poems. We agree to begin with Natsuki.

We chose not to share poems. Instead, we decided to try and answer the several questions we had to the best of our ability. Another loud noise shook the clubroom.

"What was that?" Natsuki asked. I looked behind me and saw Monika looking at us with a fearful expression.

"Monika thinks it's a glitch," Jacob explained. "It could be the game's way of fixing whatever is wrong with the system."

"What the..." she trailed off in disbelief.

"We should continue based on how the game is set up," I suggested. "Who knows what could happen."

They agreed, and Jacob and I walked over in Sayori's direction. She looked about the same from this morning, if not a little better. Once we finished, we move on to Monika next.

"You guys heard that, didn't you?" Monika asked with her eyes wide.

I nodded. "So did Natsuki. She knows she's in the game now."

Another glitch, and for a second, the three of us went airborne. We fell onto the floor along with Natuski stumbling into a desk.

"Oh my God!" Sayori exclaimed. "What happened!?"

I helped Monika up. "Are you okay?"

"Not another word," she said to us in a low voice. "The game could crash, and I'm not sure if I can restart it."

That sent shivers down my spine. Monika tried to sound as if we were messing around and all of us fell over.

"Everything is fine," Monika reassured. "Let's just get back to sharing poems."

"Jacob," Yuri suddenly said. "Come read my poem now."

I glanced at Monika nervously, and she motioned towards the door. "You know what comes next."

Natsuki and a confused Sayori followed us out.

----------------------------------------------

As Jacob walked with Yuri, he prepared for the worst.

He took a deep breath. "Hey Yuri, how's it going?"

Yuri spins around and gives him the beady eyes. "Jacob! I'm so happy to see you!"

"Um, that's good. W-Would you, uh, like to share poems?" he nervously asked her, knowing the poem he was about to receive.

"I would love to!"

Oh, God. Jacob could feel the blood as he tried to decipher the poem, but with absolutely zero success. Now, what am he supposed to say? Before Jacob could even try to think, he looked up to see the creepiest part of Yuri.

Her eyes were bulging and moving in unrealistic manners as she stood directly in front of him. He froze, not knowing what to do.

"Haaaah..."

"Haaaaahhh...."

Jacob tried his best to act brave, and he keep telling myself to don't let her touch that knife. However, he knew that it was going to be a lot harder than he was making it out to be.

Yuri smiled. "This is all I ever wanted, Jacob. I'm so happy that I finally get this chance to be alone with you. I just want you to come to my house, Jacob.

She paused for a minute. "Wow, there's really something wrong with me, isn't there?"

He just stood there and listened to what she has to say.

"But I don't care anymore. I've never felt this good in my life. Jacob, I'm addicted to you. I'd die if I don't breathe the same air as you. Doesn't it sound wonderful to have someone that loves you that much? Tell me, Jacob, tell me that you want to be my lover! Do you accept my confession?"

There it is. The question Jacob had been preparing for since he ever thought about finding a way into the game. However, it seemed like he took too long to answer her.

"Ahaha... I didn't think so."

Jacob watched her pull out a huge knife It was bigger and sharper-looking than the one they found at Sayori's house. He watched her aim it at her stomach.

"Goodbye, Jacob."

He ran up to tackle her, but he was afraid the impact would jar the knife into her. Instead, Jacob grabbed the blade of the knife, and pain immediately shot through his body. He snatched it out of her hand and threw it across the room.

Time froze as blood dripped on the floor from the deep gash in his hand, and Yuri just stood there, stunned.

"J-Jacob, why?"

"I won't let you do that. I can't afford to lose you, Yuri."

She stared at me in disbelief. "Really...?"

Jacob saw the shy part of her return. "I-I..."

Before she can make out a sentence, Jacob pulled her into a hug. They sat together for about a minute, and Jacob began to feel lightheaded. He almost fell over, but Yuri caught him.

"Let's get you cleaned up."

She helped him up, and they find a first aid kit in the closet next to Natsuki's manga. Yuri takes out the bandages, and wraps his hand with the wrap, and after she cleans up the blood from Jacob's hand. He was glad she was doing this since, since he probably would've messed it up on his own.

Yuri suddenly pulls him into a hug and starts crying. "I'm so sorry Jacob, I don't know what I was thinking! Please forgive me!"

She cries into Jacob's uniform shirt. He returned the hug.

"Shh, it's okay, as long as your safe. That's all I care right now."

PLEASE READ THIS! 👇👇👇

Hey guys! What an ending to this chapter am I right? So anyway, I'll cut (pun intended) to the chase. I'll basically say what I said in the update I published earlier, in case you haven't seen it. I wasn't expecting to finish this today, so I'm surprised myself. I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is, the track meet that I mentioned earlier was canceled, so I was able to write a huge amount of this story. But here's the bad news.

I lost a friend about two days ago. He committed suicide due to unknown reasons and I've been really down about it ever since I found out Wednesday evening, the day I published Saving Sayori. Because of that, I've been really depressed about it. But don't worry, I won't let it stop me from writing. I'd just really appreciate some support from you guys that have read this far. And guess what? This is the tenth part of the story. I honestly did not expect this to go so far. I was just bored one day and decided to download this to look up some DDLC fanfics, and I was like, "Hey, maybe I can write my own story." And here we are.

So thank you guys so much for reading so far into my crappy story. I'll shut up now as I've realized I've gone way over my 2000 word limit. Later!
