Noah and the Angel

I had never thought that I had the courage to pick up the knife and swing at an evil magician who heavily reminded me of the Illuminati.

In all seriousness, it was a huge burst of adrenaline that came out of nowhere. I could never explain what came over me at that moment. Was it Maricana? That thought came to mind as I went toe-to-toe with the Third Eye.

"Agh!" I suddenly exclaimed as the Third Eye landed a blow to my jaw. I could feel blood drip down to the ground.

The Eye extended his arms with a crazed look in his eyes, and another pulse radiated throughout the basement of the school. A huge glitch sent me airborne and I landed hard on the ground.

He laughed. "You're just a mortal, Whitfield! I have all the power in the world!"

He came over and kicked me in the same spot on my face, and I was sent rolling on the ground. Tears welled up from the stinging sensation of the impact.

"Noah!" I heard Jacob's voice call out to me.

"Don't worry about me!" I called back. "I can handle this!"

Jacob was able to make eye contact with me, and I could tell that he couldn't last much longer. I saw Yuri along with him, and she was fighting her heart out, but every now and then, the possessed monsters would try to knock her down. Sayori was holding up fine, but there was no telling how much ammo she had left. Meanwhile, Monika and Natsuki were tag-teaming well, but Monika was looking like she was tired beyond limits. Natsuki had visible cuts and was bleeding from multiple spots on her body.

I knew I had to hurry this up.

It was at that point that I could feel an overwhelming sensation take over my body. I felt my eyes began to glow a dark shade of red, and I later realized that it was the same feeling as I felt in my dreams with Maricana. I suddenly felt extremely powerful.

I spoke without a thought, and my voice was distorted. Maricana's voice collided with mine. "You may have all the power in the world, but I have all the power in the universe. Step down, now!"

For a second, the Third Eye looked confused, but his hands suddenly began to glow a golden color. He also began to smile. "Oh, but this is just getting interesting. Why would I step down from a glorious fight like this?"

The Eye lept at me without warning, but I quickly countered by leaping back at him. As if it was instinct, I grabbed his throat, wrapped my leg around the back of his, and slammed him back-first against the ground. He grunted at the impact.

He coughed, getting the air back in his body. Maricana spoke again.

"This is your final warning," she commanded. "Step down, and I will banish you painlessly."

The Third Eye stared in my direction for a long second but got up instead. "I will not be ordered to do something by the likes of you. Fight me like a man!"

I then extended my hand, and time seemed to slow down to almost a halt. I, or Maricana I should say, grabbed the Third Eye again by the neck and shot up all the way to the roof. I landed on it with my feet and shot back down to the ground. Maricana sped time back up to its normal setting right before the impact.

The Eye landed with a solid and satisfying thud, and he didn't move for a while. I felt control of my body again, but the power still flowed within me. I turned to Monika.

"Monika! Take the computer to the roof and create that portal! JAcob and I  should hold them off!"

Jacob looked at me and nodded his head.

"Are you sure? He'll kill you!" Monika yelled.

"Yes, I'm sure! Now go!"

Before she and the girls took off, she ran over to me and held out her hands. "Here, you'll need this more than me."

She gave me the two grenades and a knife and they left right after. I saw Natsuki glance behind her and look at me with scared eyes. I also saw Yuri look at Jacob as well. With that, they were gone in an instant. I turned to Jacob who was looking at me with a peculiar expression.

"Are you going to explain what the hell you just did over there?"

I couldn't help but smile at that. "It's a very long story. I'll have to run it over with you later."

He shook his head. "You have the craziest dreams, man. Can't lie, I'm a little jealous."

Then, the Third Eye struggled to get up. Once he hobbled up, he looked at me with a serious expression.

"I underestimated you, but I will not do that again," he said. "Now, let's settle this the right way."

I smiled, and my distorted voice returned. "With pleasure."

----------------------------------

Monika was like Natsuki in this situation.

If Noah or Jacob dies, she'd be pissed. She had helped the two of them out so much to get them to this point, and she refused to let it slip out of her hands.

"Do you think they're okay?" Sayori asked as they were running up the second flight of stairs, concern evident in her voice.

"Try not to think too much about it," Natsuki suggested. "I have faith that they'll be fine."

"Mhmm," Yuri said, agreeing. "We should focus on the task at hand."

They girls quickly made it to the roof, and Monika scrambled to hook up the computer. Fear was rising through her body as she began to create a code. However, due to her inexperience with coding, she only knew how to do but so much.

She cursed as she felt rumbling below her.

Sayori became frantic as the building began to shake. "Hurry, Monika!"

"I am!" she said as she threw her hands up in exasperation. "I don't know too much about this stuff!"

A loud crash could be heard from the bottom story of the building. Monika knew that there was only a span of a couple of minutes before it was too late.

-----------------------------------------

I was stabbed in the stomach by the Third Eye, but Maricana kept me alive for the time being, it felt

"Give up, Whitfield!" he yelled as I continued to land punch after punch on him. "I'm more powerful than you'll ever be!"

There was a change in his voice as the fight dragged on. It sounded beastly, like a werewolf changing into his form in a full moon. I tried not to think about it as Jacob relayed to give me a few seconds to catch my breath.

He also never showed any signs of stoppage either, and I had always admired his dedication to his friends. I jumped back in the fight as Jacob landed a blow to his jaw that caused him to stumble backward.

The Eye suddenly exploded in rage. "That's it! I am finished messing around."

"What could you possibly do?" Jacob asked, sweat dripping from his forehead and blood seeping from his nostrils. "You're getting your ass kicked from a couple of teenagers."

Wind picked up in the basement, and the Third Eye unleashed a monstrous roar. He began to grow in size, and his eyes began to glow a red color, the same as blood.

"Prepare to meet your end!" he warned as he grew even more. "You pushed me to this point and you will pay!"

The building began to rumble, and I quickly turned to Jacob. "We need to leave. Monika and the others are on the roof."

Jacob's eyes widened. "Shit!"

The Third Eye roared again and began to advance towards us.

"He's still small enough to get him out of here!" I exclaimed. "Let's go!"

I led Jacob out of the school as quickly as we could. The Third Eye ran over and through anything that was in his way, including full size walls. I tried my best not to think about it too much, but I couldn't help but fear the fact that the building wouldn't hold up.

Eventually, we made it out of the building and onto the front courtyard. As if on cue, I looked up just in time to see Monika frantically typing on the computer. A giant hole opened in an empty space beside them, and Monika looked down directly at us with a terrified expression.

"Noah!" Jacob called out to me. He was looking at the hole as well. "What should we do?"

As much as I wanted to just run back into the school and escape in that portal, doing that would not be an easy task. There was the possibility that the Eye could bring the building down and destroy the computer, or he could still find a way to destroy the game and advance further, even without Yuri's book.

"We don't have a choice!" I said. "We have to stop him here before he begins to destroy other worlds!"

The Third Eye roared again as he slowly continued to grow. I had to make up a plan fast, but I saw something from the corner of my eye and an idea came to mind. It was crazy, but just crazy enough to where it could maybe, just maybe, work in our favor.

"Jacob!" I called out. "Keep him stalled for me!"

Without hearing his response, I bolted back in the direction of the school as I could hear Jacob firing at will at the Third Eye. I picked up the two frag grenades that must've came from the corpse of one of the possessed members of the LFS and turned back to where Jacob was avoiding attacks from the still growing Third Eye.

I took a deep breath and began sprinting towards the Eye. Right as he took a step to advance towards Jacob, I managed to latch onto his leg. However, Jacob continued to fire at him, hoping he either wouldn't notice me or he'd focus on him more.

I climbed up to the back of his neck, unsheathed my knife, and stabbed him directly in the eye socket.

"AUGH!" the Third Eye roared in agonizing pain, and the game glitched to where we were airborne for a solid few seconds. Somehow, I held on by the back of his hair.

"Get...OFF!"

He waved his hands around and tried to grab me. However, I managed to crawl around and stab him in the other eye as well.

He roared in even more pain than before. Then, I unclipped both grenades and launched them down the back of his throat. I smiled in satisfaction.

"Good riddance you son of a bitch."

However, right before I jumped off, the grenades exploded, and I blacked out before I could even react.

-----------------------------------

As the Eye exploded, Jacob stared in complete disbelief.

He cursed as Noah began to fall, and he caught him just in time. Jacob's legs took the brunt of the impact. A few seconds after he caught Noah, the game began to glitch repeatedly. Jacob's heart sunk to his stomach.

He turned to face the roof, where the four girls stood. They all looked scared out of their wits.

"I'll be right up!" he called out.

He ran back into the school. Jacob spotted the staircase to the roof. As he made way there, Jacob looked out a window.

"Oh my God."

The sky, ground, everything was bent and distorted beyond proportion. It was clear that the game was on it's very last thread of rope. Jacob shook himself out of it and continued up the stairs.

He kicked the door open and collapsed to his knees from exhaustion. Noah fell gently from Jacob's arms.

"We need to go!" Monika said frantically from the computer, and it seemed like she was trying to hold the computer from exploding under pressure. She seemed frantic. "I can't hold it much longer!"

Jacob, along with Natsuki, picked up Noah and toted him towards the portal.

"Go!" Jacob yelled to Sayori, but it seemed like she was frozen in either fear or shock. Yuri grabbed her by the wrist and they vanished to God knows where.

"Go, Jacob!" Monika yelled in desperation. "I have to hold it steady for as long as I can!"

This time, it was Jacob who was frozen in fear. The computer was steaming, meaning that it could go at any second. "But..."

"JUST GO!" she screamed.

"Not without you!" Natsuki yelled back.

"PLEASE!"

Jacob was torn. Monika had put her life on the line just like everyone else had. Jacob simply didn't want to leave her alone in a ruined game.

Then he got an idea. "Natsuki, go tell Yuri and Sayori to give you their hands!"

Fortunatley, she understood what he was wanting to do, but Monika continued to refuse. Tears were streaming down her cheeks. "Jacob...please. Just go. I have to do this."

"No you don't!" he argued back. "I have an idea!"

But she shook her head. "No...it's been my curse all along, ever since I was created. I belong in an endless void to suffer."

Natuki's voice rang out from the portal about ten feet away. "Come on!"

Jacob carried Noah and interlaced hands with Natsuki. He extended his free hand in Monika's direction. "Grab on!"

She hesitated, but extended her arm and touched the tips of Jacob's fingers. After a few seconds, Jacob grabbed her hand and pulled her away from the computer.

The computer exploded, and the portal began to close.

Jacob watched as he fell through the rapidly closing portal. It felt like time had almost come to a halt. Monika still had a hold on his hand, and she made it through.

The portal closed with all of them in it.
