PART ONE
Hello there. My name is Noah Whitfield, and I'm going to tell you a story that won't really make a lot of sense.
Yes, I know. Cheesy. What a hell of a start, but since you're here, you might as well want to read it to the end.
Ahem, sorry.
I'm just a guy with a pretty messed-up family. My biological dad has never been a huge part of my life and left a long time ago with my brother, Jayson. My mother is a workaholic and leaves me to fend for the house by myself. I go to a school that I don't really fancy that much because I'm a loner with very few friends.
Jacob, however, is the only friend that I can truly trust. He's been there for me throughout pretty much everything.
My phone suddenly vibrated as I was scrolling on my computer. I looked at it, and it was the guy that I was just thinking about earlier.
"Hello?"
"Hey man, what's going on?" Jacob asked.
I leaned back in the chair. "Nothing much, just considering downloading the game you were talking about earlier at lunch."
He chuckled. "About time. I was hoping you would do it. I promise you won't regret it."
A distant roll of thunder gently shook the house. I chuckled as I got out of the chair to look out the window. "I probably won't, but we'll just see where it goes."
The sky was an ominous green color with puffy clouds that looked like they were ready to explode with rain. I frowned, not expecting that it was going to rain. Suddenly, a loud crack shook the entire house, causing my heart to skip a beat and my body to jump with sudden fear.
After I calmed down, I noticed that Jacob had gone silent. "Jacob? Are you there?"
I looked at the phone, and our call disconnected. I found that strange but quickly called him back. He answered in the span of a few seconds.
"Why'd you hang up? he asked.
"I didn't," I said with a slight chuckle. "Did you not hear the thunder?"
"What thunder?"
I looked back out of the window, and it seemed that the sudden storm was intensifying by the second. "Look for yourself, man."
I could hear the sounds of him getting out of bed. After some time, his tone had noticeably changed. "I see what you're talking about now, but I haven't heard any thunder."
Another loud crack of thunder shook the house even more, causing the call to disconnect a second time. The power went out along with it.
"Jacob?" I asked with no response.
I looked at the phone, and the service had completely gone out. I shook my head in confusion. "That's strange."
Then a bright light captured my attention, and it was coming from the computer. I walked back over to it, and the same screen was on as before. I stared at it, confused beyond recognition.
I tried turning the ceiling fan light on, and it only clicked.
"What the hell?" I said softly to myself. "How is the computer still working?"
I noticed that the game had long finished downloading. Sitting down at the desk, I waved the mouse a few times and clicked on the icon, and just like that, it opened without fail.
This game is not suitable for children or those who are easily disturbed.
"Wonderful."
----------------------------------------
A solid hour passed of playing the game. I decided to shut it off for the night and grab a snack. The power was still off, so I picked up my phone and turned the flashlight on. On the way to the kitchen, I attempted to turn the TV on just to see if it would work. As expected, it failed to turn on.
I shook my head again, still confused about how the computer managed to work.
I glanced at the time displayed on my phone, and it was already pushing midnight. It was a Thursday night, so I figured I should at least try to get some decent rest for school the next morning, even though I dreaded going.
I closed my door and instinctively turned my fan on which, of course, failed to happen. However, I left it switched on in case the power turned back on overnight. I curled up in the blanket and rested my head on the pillow. It took me a while, but I eventually fell asleep.
-----------------------------------------
I had the strangest dream that night, and it started with finding myself standing on an unfamiliar white platform.
A stunningly beautiful heavenly woman was floating in front of me. She had short, dark hair that flowed as if it was windy. Her white, angelic dress flowed along with her hair. She also had a mature but perfect figure that topped everything off.
But when she opened her pink eyes, my heart skipped a beat. "Noah Whitfield, we have been watching you for a long time."
I was speechless. "W-What?"
"I do not know many details, but the war between heaven and hell begins soon," she started. "We have decided that you are the perfect candidate to help us with this important battle."
I continued to stare at her. "Important battle?"
She smiled softly. "Your journey begins when you wake from your sleep. You will face many hardships along the way. You will build many new relationships, and you will lose many relationships. You will be forced to make many hard decisions, and some, the answers will be right in front of you. Are you prepared to begin your journey?"
I felt my heart rate increase dramatically. "Am I prepared? Well, no, but..."
The angel smiled more. "Noah, I understand your concern. You worry that you are not suited for this position, but a girl that you are familiar with calls for your help. I have been sent by my father to assist you throughout your journey. You worry that you will fail, and I assure you that even if you do, you will still live to try again. You worry that you will be alone, and I can promise that it will never even be a thought."
What else did I have to lose? If I was chosen to do this, then I supposed that it was time for me to take the challenge. I looked up and smiled at the angel. "Well, I guess I am prepared."
She smiled. "Very well then. Good luck, Noah."
-----------------------------------------
I woke up in a cold sweat. There was a slight hum that was the first to grab my attention, and it was my fan that must've turned on during my dream.
The dream came flooding back to me. Was that even real?
Something deep down had told me that it was. The angel, her voice, the platform, and what hit me the most was that I was controlling my own actions. In an ordinary dream, you naturally are not able to do that. This was different.
I sighed and laid back in my bed, recalling the events that happened in the dream with the angel. If I was truly suited to do this, even though I hardly know what's going on, what could go wrong? She claimed that even if I failed, I wouldn't be alone. She also assured me that I was the one that could handle this responsibility.
Pursing my lips, the realization came to me that my life was probably about to change dramatically. The question that was left was, what exactly was going on? The only thing she told me that it was the war between Heaven and Hell beginning. That still left me clueless, but she also said that she didn't know a lot of details either. She also said that it began once I woke up.
Wait a minute.
I sat up in my bed and looked around. The sun was also beginning to peek into my room. "This..."
Realization hit me like a freight train.
"This isn't my room."
My phone buzzed and I frantically patted my pockets before answering it without hesitation, thinking that it would be Jacob.
"H-Hello?"
"Hey!" an unfamiliar female voice screamed into the phone. "I just wanted to make sure that you were awake!"
I blinked. "Who is this?"
She laughed for a bit before she said anything. "Don't be stupid, silly. It's Sayori!"
My mouth dropped in total shock.
