Update
Hey guys, I didn't really know what to call this, but it's basically just a general update about my life.
As you guys know, I will be attending Northern Michigan University next fall (2017), and I think I mentioned to you guys that I was going on a college visit there, which happened last week. I realized I never told you guys how it went.
So, let's start with the city, Marquette. Marquette is a very quiet mountain town in the upper peninsula (7 hours from me), and I love that! I love the small, everyone knows their neighbors names type of towns. You might think those don't exist outside of movies, but they do, or at least one, Marquette. The city is right on the edge of Lake Superior, and I got to see some of the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen in my life. And it was completely quiet, barely even a hum of traffic. Every person you passed on the street wanted to know how your day was and get to know you. There was not one mean person in that entire town. The kids/teenagers there aren't preoccupied with technology (even though the university has a wifi network that covers the whole city), they'd rather be biking, or hiking, or fishing, canoeing, boating, running, or even cliff diving. Cliff diving. It's where you jump off high cliffs into deep (usually freezing) water, from what I've heard it's very exhilarating. And that's what they do for fun! I was already expecting it to be great, but it wasn't just great. It was stunning, wonderful, and flawless. Perfect, dare I say it. I hiked to the top of a 4,000 foot mountain, and just stood there staring out at the lake. The view was so clear, I could see across to Canada! Canada. And that's not a joke, it's true. And if you looke at the rails of the wooden lookout you can see people names carved in, names of couples, even some very inspiring quotes. And the rails were completely covered, I thought that spoke volumes about the people who lived there, so many of them have been in that same place I was standing, anybody can climb a mountain. And the city is so close to the North Pole that you can see the northern lights when they're active!
So, let's talk about food. Okay, so when I was up there I ate at this place called Lagniappe, which has food from Louisiana (that's where the owners are from), y'know cajun and creole food. Let me tell you guys, this is the best food I have ever had in my life. I'm not just saying that, either. They make their food from scratch, in their kitchen, right there. Plus, the current CEO of Starbucks (Howard Schultz) was a graduate of NMU, so they put a Starbucks on campus. The trip was seriously, awesome.
