9¤ Plain black coffee

This is dedicated to one of my best friends, and twin sister, because she deserves it. She deserves so much more than she gets. So please guys, give her a follow, and read her books. @tayraearm . I love you twinnadonna

"Shit" I muttered to myself. I was so late to class. The lecture hall was full and, buzzing with the chatter of students.

"Miss Wynter, mind telling us why you're here late?" The stupid biology professor who thinks he's funny, when in fact he's annoying as heck, with the ugliest nose you could ever see, asked me with a stupid smirk on his face.

I shot him a nasty glare, making him flinch a bit.

"Or not. Move to your seat, Miss" I've been told that my glares are scary.

My seating position depends on my mood. If I'm in a mood to learn, which I usually never am, I sit in the third row. But when I'm in really bad moods, I sit at the back.

Making my way up, I sat where there was no one around. Well except two boys at my far right, who looked like they would rather smoke a fag than be in this class.

For 4 freaking hours, I sat in a place. And by the end of the class, My ass was cramped.

"Uh, excuse me, um, Aiden?"

I stopped in my tracks, turning round to face the person who couldn't even say my name right.

"It's Adrien, and what do you want?"

"Sorry to disturb you. But our professor assigned us partners, and you're mine"

"Partners?"

"Yes. For the Different Learning processes project. That's the one we got. And we also have to find out why people develop phobias"

I stood there looking at the boy with droopy eyes. "Okay. Can't we just divide the whole thing, you do yours and I do mine?"

"Yeah, we can, but I'd love it if we did it together. I wanna get to know you"

"First of all, I'm not in the mood for boys right now, I don't wanna get to know you, or the reason why you had your nose pierced. Second of all, you better divide the project into two, or I will do that for you"

I turned on my heel and stomped out, leaving the boy wide eyed, and slack jawed.

Feeling bad about the nose piercing comment, I stopped and sighed.

"I'm sorry about the nose comment. I'm not usually in this kind of mood all the time"

I took a good look at him. He had chestnut brown hair, with blond tips, and he had his ears pierced, as well as his nose. And they actually looked good on him.

His eyes were blue. A bit lighter than Olivia's, but still a pretty shade.

He towered over me a bit, but not as much as he-who-shall-not-be-named did.

"So I'm Nicolas, would you like to go for a coffee with me?"

It took everything in me not to pull out his hair from his head. And I think he also saw it from my face.

"Or not. We can go anywhere else. Or nowhere at all. Please say something. Your glare is killing me. I'm actually really scared right now. Please stop"

He whimpered the last part, shutting his eyes and shielding his eyes like I was actually going to hurt him.

I couldn't help but smile a bit.

"Chill out Niklaus, my eyes can't really kill"

"This coffee, where are we going to get it?" I asked as we strolled through the corridors of the school.

"Some coffee place by father likes. He used to take me there"

I sensed some hesitation in his voice, so I nudged his arm with my elbow.

"Wanna talk about it?"

He just smiled and took my wrist, leading me to the place.

It wasn't much farther from the University building, and it was really small. But cute. With tribal designs adorning the walls, and little round  tables scattered across the place. It also had the raw scent of coffee beans.

"What will you have?" An elderly looking woman asked, her silver blonde hair in a pinup style, with a bandana around her neck.

"I'll have plain black" Nicolas easily said, proving that he really came here all the time.

"I'll have, uh, the same?" I was unsure. There wasn't a menu, and I didn't feel like asking any questions.

"Two black coffee's coming up"

Picking up a toothpick, I fiddled with it for a second, before looking up at the blue eyed boy sitting across me.

"When I was little, my dad used to bring my mother and I here. A lot. He always ordered for plain black coffee. Saying that it was a man's coffee" The brunette let out a small chuckle, fiddling with the edge of his sweater.

"This place had a lot of memories you know. My parents met here. My dad proposed here. My mum told my dad she was pregnant here. It's like, a sacred place for me"

His eyes lighted up as he talked about his parents, his family, and his love for the little coffee shop.

"I hope I'll also be able to share the love I have for this place with that one girl who'll capture my heart"

"Order up" the pinup coffee lady singsonged, dropping two steaming mugs of plain black coffee on the table.

"Enjoy"

I muttered a small thanks to her and held the mug between my hands.

"So why did you tell me all this? I mean I appreciate that you did, but why?"

"Well-" he started, taking a sip of his coffee and cringing. I couldn't tell if it was from the hotness, or the taste.

"-You looked like you needed a friend, and I shared mine, so you'd share your problem with me. Two heads are better than one you know"

"So you were trying to bribe me into telling you my problems"

A small smile found its way to my face as I blew on the surface of the coffee. The courage to take a sip wasn't there.

"Something of the sort" he smiled back, taking another sip and scrunching up his nose.

"Why do you drink this if you don't like it?" I asked, hoping to change the topic.

"I told you before, my father said it's a man's coffee. Not the baby stuff with milk and sugar. But God this is bitter. And don't think you can change the topic easily"

"Arrrgh" I growled dramatically. "My plan didn't work"

"No it didn't"

I sighed.

"So there's a boy. I like him. A lot. I asked him out on our first date, because there's this girl that works in the same place as he does. She's literally perfect. I swear. Blue eyes, perfect bod, she's even tan! I mean how on earth can you find tan people in London? Britain at large. It snows here half of the time. Unless she got a fake tan. But it didn't look fake at all. All this is making me dizzy"

A few seconds passed and I realized I was just rambling, and I hadn't even gotten to the real reason I was sad.

"Sorry. I tend to be tangent sometimes. I actually learned that word yesterday. And I did it again. Sorry"

Feeling embarrassed, I rested my head on the mahogany table.

"You say this girl that works at the same place with your boy is perfect"

"He's not my boy" I did air quotes at 'my boy' and rolled my eyes.
"And yeah. She's perfect"

"What's your definition of perfect?' He asked again, leaning forward and clasping both hands together, probably trying to look professional.

"Her!"

"Okay I don't know if you realize how stupid you sound now. She's your definition of perfect? What's the difference between her and you?"

"Everything is different between the both of us. She's thin and has a great figure and blue eyes that are a bit darker than yours, she's just- she's- she's a freaking supermodel" I exclaimed, at a loss for better words to describe Olivia with.

"Listen, everyone has a different definition of perfect. She might be your definition of perfect, and you might be someone else's" Nicolas advised, smiling at me.

I scoffed loudly, sitting up straight. "That's impossible Niklaus, I can't ever be someone's definition of perfect. I'm fat. I'm so weird that I get weirded out by my own self, I-I don't even know anymore. And to top it all off, I'm here blabbering out to a total stranger!"

The all too familiar stinging sensation made me shut my eyes tight.

Sucking in a deep breath, I pushed back the chair I was on and got up.

"I'm sorry Nicolas, I have to go now" I said, picking my bag up and walking out of the coffee shop.

I didn't even get outside, before the tears had started escaping my eyes.

I'm so freaking pathetic, crying for the second time in a day, in front of a complete stranger at that!

I wiped my eyes and sniffled, trying to prevent sobs from erupting out of me.

"Hey, I'm sorry okay, I didn't mean to make you sad" Nicolas' raspy voice said as he hugged me tight.

You know when you're fighting hard not to cry, and then someone tells you "I'm sorry" or something along the line, you then beginto cry even harder?

Well that was my case. As soon as my head touched his shoulder, small sobs started escaping my lips.

"I'm jealous 'cause he likes her. He likes her and not me.

After the date yesterday, I went in to get coffee and also see him, because we do this thing, where he gets me a different flavor of coffee every time I go there, and instead of him, I see her"

"Okay?" Nicolas asks unsure, raising up a brow.

"They exchanged shifts. Because he just wants to let me down easy. He doesn't want to have to face me and say 'I'm sorry, I don't like you' or something like that"

Sighing after the long ramble, I took a sip of my coke, and looked at the boy sitting beside me, with expectant eyes. At least he had to say something.

"Adrien, how sure are you that he actually likes her? What if he had something else to do, so he told her to take his shift?"

"He couldn't have had something important. He knows I always go there at that time. He just let me down easy"

"Okay stop this. He isn't even your boyfriend yet, and you're sulking this bad? What would you do if your actual boyfriend breaks up with you?"

"Hey, I'm usually not this bad-" I whined, poking his side with my elbow.  "-I handle breakups well. If I'm feeling really down, I just eat it off"

"Eat it off?" He looked at me in disbelief.

"Yeah. It works for me. Food solves everything" I took another sip from my drink and sent a grin his way.

"You're weird. Too bloody weird to be human" the brunette muttered to himself, running a hand through his hair.

"Thanks Niklaus. That's the sweetest thing I've heard today. And it's a privilege to be inhuman. Humans are stupid"

Giving me that 'really?' Look, he drank from his cup, swinging slowly beside me.

"Yes. Including you too"

"I'm not gonna argue with you" his swinging picked up pace, making me laugh.

"Let's see who can swing higher!" I yelled, even though I knew he would hear me if I talked normally.

"That's a game for children"

"Well we are in a children's park, aren't we?"

"Touché"

"So you in?" I asked again, draining the last of my drink and throwing the empty cup on the grass. I'm gonna pick it up later.

"Why the fuck not?" He retorted, repeating my actions.

"Okay on three. One, two, HEY!" I screamed, wiggling around in my swing.

The idiot had already started going high up. I couldn't reach him because my swing was going sideways, instead of forward and backwards. So I had to wait and start off slowly.

"Ha! Looser" he yelled to me, sticking out his tongue.

"May the gods of this park punish you!" I yelled back, once I started getting higher up.

"They wouldn't dare! Look what I can do!!" He let go of the chains used to hold on to the swing, and put his hands behind his head.

"You're so gonna fall off" I muttered, more to myself than him.

"Watch me gooooo!!" He shouted, raising his arms up in the air and screaming random things I couldn't understand.

Having no other option, I joined the screaming party. Not letting go of the swing chains.

"Be careful you idiot, or you're gonna f-" I wasn't even through with warning him, when he literally flew across the park, landing on his backside.

"Oh my-" I giggled a bit, slowing my swing down, then jumping off.

"Does it hurt?" I asked Nicolas, even though he had a pained expression on his face.

"No. It feels like my arse just won the lottery"

That set me off. I started laughing. So hard, that I couldn't find my voice anymore.

"D-did you see h-how you flew from there? Oh God, I wish I taped it" I breathlessly said, sitting on the floor beside him.

"Whatever" he just mumbled, but I could tell that he found it funny too.

"Hey, thanks"

"For what?"

"For being here today. And for making me laugh so hard. Seriously, I'm gonna be laughing about this till next year. Maybe till I die"

"Whatever. I need a massage. Help me up"

Giggling under my breath, I linked my hands with his, and pulled him up.

"Stop walking like that, people are gonna think you just got pounded by the hulk"

Don't blame me for saying that, he was walking very slowly, with his legs open, as if something got stuck between them.

"Okay shut up"

"Sorry"
