3¤ My Starbucks Boy
Let me warn you humans, if you have a test, never spend the previous day watching movies and playing Grand theft auto with your best friend, who has a free day.
I have a class by 10am today, and I slept by 3am.
Now, it's a few minutes after 5, and I'm scurrying around the flat, looking for my chemistry book.
I'm such a good student.
"Can you shut the fuck up and move already?" My grouchy and sleepy roommate groaned and I pushed her aside to search for my book.
"Don't get all grumpy on me. You caused this!" I sassed back, throwing the duvet over her and walking away.
"How exactly?"
"You're the adult, the responsible one. You should've said something. But you didn't"
Lame excuse, I know. But I had to blame anything now.
"Okay Godmother you're being ridiculous right now. And I will not be a victim of your craziness. So you better get out of this place and go raid somewhere else"
I huffed, moving out to do exactly as she said.
7am sharp and I just found the damn book. In my fucking book bag.
I searched that place a hundred times! Okay maybe just twice.
But still!
I grudgingly moved out of the house, pulling my oversized sweater over my body and shutting the door.
Standing In front a just opened Starbucks, I was contemplating going in. And whether I would see Mikey the Starbucks boy again today.
"Hey" I greeted, tracing my fingers on the cold, marble counter.
"Hey, uh" his brow was raised, silently asking for my name.
"Alien" I blurted out, my eyes turning into saucers as I realized my slip up.
Where did that come from.
"Alien?" He giggled. "So are we playing the mysterious game here?"
"Wasn't my initial plan, but okay" I smiled, resting my chin on my palm.
"So what are you going to have today?" He asked, slipping into professional mode.
"I always have a pumpkin spice latte in the mornings" I replied, never taking my eyes off his face.
"Always? So you've never had anything different?"
I shrugged. "There's nothing more appropriate for the mornings like the pumpkin spice. Don't think I'd like to change it"
He gasped dramatically, making me giggle.
"But there's a wide variety of Starbucks awesomeness that you haven't tried! And they say variety is is the spice of life"
I laughed and shook my head.
"I know, but it was my first love, and I can't see myself falling for another one. It just feels weird"
He raised up an eyebrow. "You must really have a thing against new things"
I laughed softly "No I don't. I just like pumpkin spice"
I walked over and took a seat, pulling out my chemistry book.
"One pumpkin spice latte for the pretty lady who is.... reading a chemistry textbook?"
I looked up into a confused face. "What? Is it so strange to see someone reading chemistry?"
"Kind of" he replied, sitting opposite me and dropping my coffee for me.
I picked up the cup and took a long sip, savoring the taste.
"You have an exam today or something?" He asked, after a few minutes of me, pretending to be cool and flipping through the pages.
"Yeah. And I haven't read anything. I didn't even get enough sleep last night" I groaned back, letting my head fall on the book with a soft thud.
"That part about not sleep is pretty obvious. I mean, why else would you be reading the book upside down?" He asked, and amused tone to his voice.
I raised up my head and looked at the book in horror.
He wasn't lying.
"There is a pretty valid explanation for that" I retorted, trying to skillfully turn the (very large and very heavy) book with one arm.
Due to my lack of skills, the book ended up falling to the floor.
"Which is?" He asked, smirking at me.
"Well, I just wanted to see if you, uh, were dyslexic! Yes, that's it. My perfect, completely reasonable explanation"
"You know, that would be extremely offensive, if I were dyslexic" he said, staring into my eyes.
Turns out he bent down to pick the book the same time I did.
So we were in this cliché movie scene where we both tried to pick up a book and our eyes met and wow, his lips look so pink.
"Uh. Yeah, I'm sorry. I tend to say the wrong things sometimes. Sorry" I sputtered out, sitting up straight and twisting my fingers under the table.
I nearly kissed and really hot stranger, one day after I met him.
How whorish of me.
His cheeks had that light pink tint, and his oh-so-pink lips were in a small pout.
I could watch him forever, but then my eyes glanced to the green wall clock.
It was about the same shade with his apron. And it was saying 8:35am.
"Shit. I've got to go. If I wanna get to school on time" I let out, picking up my book and stuffing it in the black bag that was formerly lying on the floor.
"Oh. Well okay"
He looked at loss of words.
"Wish me luck?"
He smiled. "All the luck in the world"
I smiled back, looking down and shuffling my feet.
"Hey, I have a little good luck charm I use in cases like this. When I'm unsure and all"
"That's sweet? But I don't believe in charms"
"Oh nonsense. Give me your arm"
I raised up a brow. "Ookay"
He took out a black beaded bracelet, with only one white beading the middle, and slipped it over my outstretched wrist.
All I could think of was the way his pale skin contrasted with my slightly-darker-than-caramel one.
And the way I felt warmth in the bottom of my stomach.
Warmth that made me want to bend over and hug the leg of one of the tables, while filling out a form to adopt Patrick star and live in bikini bottom.
"It's pretty" I whispered, smiling up at him.
"Yeah" he replied, smiling back and closing his palm around mine.
"I also have a proposal" he continued, still holding my hand in his, but a bit loosely.
"Shoot"
"Okay. So you're in love with your pumpkin spice, right? "
I nodded in reply.
"Okay. So I was just thinking, if every time you come here, I bless your taste buds with another flavour of Coffee, and at the end of, maybe a month or two, you'll tell me if you've changed your mind about pumpkin spice being the best"
I laughed a bit. "Bless my taste buds?"
He nodded enthusiastically. "Yes! What do you say?"
My eyes shifted to the clock again. Shit.
"How about this, if your little 'charm' works for me, I'll say yes, but if it doesn't, we'll see about that. Good enough for ya?"
He looked skeptical for a second.
"That's reasonable. I don't see a reason why my charm bracelet won't work. So yeah, it's good enough for me"
"Good. See you later Mikey"
And with that, I ran out of the coffee shop, hoping an praying to make it to the bus stop on time.
