Chapter One: Larissa
Larissa waited for her husband of six years to come home. She lay in bed, covers above her shoulder, wide awake.
The clock reads '4:30AM'. A sigh escapes Larissa's mouth. She just wanted her husband home.
She picks up her phone, dialing his number and waits for him to pick up. But he never does. Sending her straight to voice mail.
"Where are you? This is my fourth time calling you-" Larissa stops speaking after hearing the alarm go off on the front door.
She hangs up but doesn't go down the steps to acknowledge her husband. He stumbles up the steps quietly not trying to wake their five year old son, SJ.
Larissa has her back turned as her husband goes into the bathroom to shower his sins away. Twenty minutes later she can hear the water turn off.
She feels the bed dip beside her ever so lightly. Her husband, Sean, knows she's awake. The silence is thick, chocking both of them.
"Its four in the morning." Larissa quietly says.
"I know what time it is." Her husband, Sean, says .
Larissa sits up in their king size bed. She's glad he can't see her tears in the dark. Sean lays on his back.
He's fed up with all of Larissa's nagging. Sean just wants to sleep. He had work later on and needed all the sleep he could get.
"We gotta talk about this." Larissa says wiping her eyes.
The sounds of Sean moving make her heart jump. He turns on their bedroom light. He sees her back and rolls his eyes.
Her attire makes him frown. Sometimes he'd like to be coming home to some candles and lingerie. But instead he gets basketball shorts and a tee shirt and that bonnet she wears.
"I'm trying to talk to you and you act like you ain't got time. But you come home at four in the morning, you must got time." Larissa says finally turning to look at her husband.
She studies his face. She sees nothing. No emotion is in his eyes. This makes her quickly turn back around and face the wall.
"I ain't got time for this tonight. We can talk in the morning or something, so go cry somewhere else. It's annoying." Sean says before turning off his lamp.
The room goes dark again. More silent tears pour from Larissa's eyes. She takes the duvet off the bed and a pillow and leaves.
Sean shrugs not caring where his wife was going. He pulls the sheet over him and drifts off into la la land.
Larissa sleeps in the guest room. That's not where she wanted to be. She wants to be cuddled up next to her husband.
She missed the old him. They both met their junior year in college. She didn't pay him any kind at first, but he wanted her bad.
Eventually she agreed to let him take her out on a date. And it was the best day of her life, next to their wedding.
After five years of dating the couple decided to get married in Barbados. The wedding was big but they could afford it.
A year later, Larissa became pregnant with SJ, Sean Junior. And they both loved their little bundle of joy.
But this latest year of their marriage seemed to fall apart. Larissa soon fell asleep knowing her husband was falling out of love for her.
The next morning, Larissa is waking up their son for school.
"SJ, you gotta get up. This my fourth time coming in here! Get up, sleepy head." Larissa says shaking her son.
He sighs and rolls over again. SJ never wants to wake up for some reason. Raven pulls the covers back exposing his Spider-Man pajamas.
"Now SJ." Larissa says looking into his eyes. By now, Larissa is cooking breakfast in her pencil skirt and blouse.
She hears SJ coming down the steps all dressed in his uniform. She smiles while he takes a seat at the table reading a book.
Her smile fades as her husband enters the kitchen. Larissa turns back to the bacon. Soon she's made SJ's plate and filled his cup with orange juice.
"About last night-" Sean begins to speak.
"Get the fuck outta my face, Sean. Ain't shit to talk about, right?" Larissa replies handing SJ his plate.
"Where's my plate?" Sean asks noticing everyone about to eat but him.
"Only had enough for the two of us. It's cereal on top of the fridge." Larissa says sending him a evil smile.
SJ laughs not really knowing the meaning behind his mothers words. Sean steals a piece of bacon off of Larissa's plate before grabbing his brief case.
"I gotta go. I'll be there to pick you up from school SJ." Sean says kissing his son on the cheek.
He looks at his wife as she cuts her pancakes. She doesn't want a kiss from him at all and he doesn't want a kiss either.
So he just walks out the door and piles into his black Cadillac. Larissa begins to clean up with the help of SJ. They all used to do this as a family.
"Damn it." Larissa says noticing Sean left his phone home.
She didn't want to take it to him but he needed it just in case she needed to talk to him about SJ.
Larissa puts the phone in her purse and grabs the keys to the front door and her car. SJ is playing subway surfers on the family tablet while Larissa drives.
"Have a good day at school, SJ. Mommy loves you." Larissa says as SJ gets ready to run over to his friends.
"Love you too, bye mommy." He says smiling showing some missing teeth.
Larissa makes sure he gets into the school building before pulling off. The law firm is a couple minutes away from SJ's school.
Larissa speed walks to the elevator afraid she's going to be late to her own job. The assistants greet her, knowing who she is.
Larissa hits the elevator buttons fast wanting to hurry up and leave. She soon walks to her husbands office.
She knocks on the door awaiting his voice. She opens the office door and Sean looks up from his laptop in confusion. He quickly exits out of something and closes his laptop.
"What are you doing here?" He asks ready to dismiss her.
"Your stupid ass forgot your phone." Larissa says shoving his phone to his chest clad in a dress shirt.
Larissa begins to walk away until Sean grabs her upper arm. She turns around not ready to look at him.
"Have a good day." He says before kissing his lips.
