CHAPTER FOURTY-SEVEN
Third Person
Numb.
All Yeosang felt was numbness. His head was spinning as if he's having vertigo. As soon as he stirred his eyes open, all he could see was the white peaceful clouds floating on air.
"Where am I?" The blonde asked himself, familiarizing the place he's in now. "Hello?"
He tried calling out for someone, but it was just an echo of his own voice. It is agitating him for an apparent reason; he's alone in a group of clouds.
Again, it feels like heaven.
Yeosang tried to recall what happened before he regained his consciousness. He remembered calling Seonghwa's name because he was about to tell him that he loves him.
The he remembered a car...that vigorously hit him.
There he realized...
"Am I really dead?"
"No, blondie."
Yeosang sat up from his initial position, he glanced to where he heard that familiar voice that he heard days ago.
Then it appeared the grey-haired woman with a small smile on her face.
"Miss Minji..." The blonde uttered, not knowing what to say next since he is so confused with the sudden events occurred recently.
Minji kept the smile, "You did it, Yeosang."
The younger was baffled, "I did what?"
"You were able to save yourself from the curse. The last petal of the rose had fallen already. Congratulations."
What?
"B-But..." Yeosang stammered, surprised that the spell is entirely broken, "I didn't tell him that I love him. How did the last petal fall?"
Minji snickered in amusement of the younger's words, "You should really thank the person who hit you. If it wasn't for that driver, Seonghwa wouldn't confess his love for you."
Seonghwa...confessed his love for me?
It was weird for Yeosang, these events occurring lately seemed to be beyond his expectations. He should be worried that he kept crossing into tragic situations. He should be happy that Seonghwa finally admitted that he loves him back, it was relieving. But his body is so tired from living the life. At this point, he just wanted to rest in peace.
Minji noticed the frown on his face, "Why the long face, blondie?"
"I guess I'm happy to hear that he loves me back, " Yeosang gave her a small but obviously sad smile. "But I'm so tired, I wanted to give up. I don't want to feel pain anymore. I just wanted to live my life with the person I love without facing any consequences.
13 years of unrequited love was an awful experience. I lost my sister, and I didn't even have the chance to say goodbye to her. Suddenly marrying Seonghwa was too much for me, but I knew I had to do it to save him. I had two accidents within this year because I wanted to protect Lia and Seonghwa. I almost lost my best friend because of a misunderstanding. I found out that I'm part of this curse which was highly doubtable because I don't believe in anything. These events happening to me was too much. I can't handle it, Miss Minji. I wanted peace, wherein I want to live my life with joy and love. That's all I wanted."
Yeosang's knees gave up and started shedding tears. Overloading with so much pressure and anxiety, Yeosang couldn't help but cry in Minji's arms.
Minji's non-existent heart just broke at the sight of Yeosang suffering all because of that curse she placed on the Parks.
"I'm sorry."
Yeosang slowly looked up to view the lady's sympathetic look. For the first time after Minji's afterlife as a goddess, she cried in real tears. She felt extremely remorseful.
"I'm so careless to think that you two aren't suffering at all. I'm sorry for giving you so much pain. You're a good person, Kang Yeosang. You deserve nothing but happiness and peace. Therefore, I must reward you..."
Yeosang gradually stood up from to face Minji properly, "Reward...?"
"Close your eyes."
The blonde heaved a sigh before following the elder's command. He slowly shut his eyes close, waiting for another response from the woman.
It seemed like thirty seconds had passed since he had his eyes closed, until he heard someone calling his name...
"Sangie?"
He quickly opened his eyes when he heard that familiar voice that he missed these past months.
"Sangie, I'm here behind you."
Yeosang turned his heel to face the person he expected. He swore he cried so much when seeing his favorite sister in front of him.
"L-Lia? I-Is that really you?"
The latter nodded with tears evident on her eyes. She quickly embraced her brother tightly, mumbling a lot of I miss you's and I'm sorry's.
"I'm so glad that I'd get to hug you again." Lia muttered, wiping her new set of tears from her eyes.
They pulled out and she began cupping Yeosang's cheeks to wipe his tears. They both couldn't believe it that they are holding each other again after so long.
"I'm so sorry that I couldn't save you from that truck. I tried, sis. I really tried but--"
Lia shook her head, "No. Don't be sorry. It's not your fault. It's mine. I should've listened to you and shouldn't have lied from the start. I was so selfish, Yeosang. I'm so sorry. Please forgive me."
Yeosang nodded and leaned in to kiss her forehead, "I forgave you already, Lia. A long time ago."
Lia cried even more as she leaned in to engulf Yeosang again into another hug, very lucky to have a forgiving and selfless brother. She knew she took his kindness for granted. She felt like she never deserved Yeosang in the first place.
"Why did you do it though? Why hide it?" Yeosang took his opportunity to ask her, hoping to have the answer he's looking for.
Lia's heart sunk, having a frown plastered on her face, "I told you...I love Seonghwa so much. I don't want him to perceive me as a cheater. I didn't mean to cheat, Sangie. Jongho and I were drunk--but I must admit that I was at fault."
Yeosang hummed, "I know about that, Lia. Jongho already told me the full story."
"I know...I was guiding you throughout your journey without me." Lia admitted with a sheepish smile, "What are you pertaining about then?"
"The mark. Seonghwa said you have a mark on your rib. Was it true?"
"Yes..." She told him honestly, "I lied about it because I'm afraid to let go of Seonghwa. I didn't believe his family history because I used to think it's a made up story. Well, I was wrong. Soulmate marks are supposed to fade when they die, well mine didn't. Mother and Father...oh I mean, Aunt Joohee and Uncle Hwaseong were so furious. I was warned already, but I didn't listen--which probably lead me to my death."
Marks are supposed to fade when they die? That explains why Seonghwa was so disappointed during that time of his parents' house. Is that the reason why Yeosang's mark was glitching? Is it because it was going to predict that he is going to die?
"And now Seonghwa is so mad at me for not telling him sooner. I was really scared on what will happen if I did tell him. I guess I really deserved it anyway. I've been a terrible sister to you, Sangie. I lost my baby too. Jongho was depressed because of my lost. Everyone was so disappointed in me, I guess even Mom and Dad too."
"Lia..." Yeosang murmured softly, sympathizing his sister, "I'm sorry you felt that way--"
"Don't apologize, Sangie. I'm the one who should be sorry. I called you disgusting for liking Seonghwa. I didn't mean those words. You deserved him more than I do, and I'm so glad that you are able to save him and the curse. Thank you so much for taking care of him. I'm proud of you, Sangie."
The lump inside Yeosang's throat was hard to swallow because of his overflowing tears, "Y-You are not mad at me for m-marrying your supposed groom?"
Lia smiled, "I am never angry at you because Seonghwa isn't my groom in the first place. All along...he was all yours."
In the end, I didn't marry my sister's groom, but my own groom.
"Do you..." Yeosang trailed off, "still love Seonghwa?"
Lia pursed her lips together, thinking of an answer but replied honestly, "I still do. You know I loved Seonghwa with whole my heart during those years."
Yeosang hummed, "I understand. You are free to love him anyway. I won't stop you from that."
"These feelings will stop soon, don't worry." She laughed in assurance, "I'm just happy that you are here. I wish I could still go back and live--"
"Can't you? We missed you a lot..."
Lia shook her head once again, "I missed all of you too but I belong here, Yeosang. I must face my own consequences. Don't worry, I'm guiding you and always be here by your side. Who knows...you may see me again in the next 10 years?"
Yeosang beamed a smile, "I hope to see you again soon, sis."
Lia embraced her brother once again, knowing that their time is up and Yeosang needs to go back to the real world.
"Before you go back, please do me a favor. I want you to give this to Jjong." Lia requested, inserting a letter on Yeosang's pocket. "If ever if he asks you where did my letter come from, tell him that I've been keeping it in my treasure chest. He would know what I'm talking about."
Yeosang nodded, planting the last kiss on her forehead.
"I will. Goodbye Lia. I'll forever miss you."
----
"Are you ready to go home?"
Frankly, Yeosang was afraid to go back. These months of feeling indescribable feelings and events were like torture for him. Car accidents, secrets divulging, misunderstandings and confrontations. He is afraid to encounter these again.
"How would I know if the curse is really broken?"
Minji chuckled at the question, "If you are worried of having another accident, don't be. The last petal made your hearts immune and protected." She answered.
"So...I won't die anymore?"
The woman snorted, "You will, but only when you are ready. I'm granting you the peaceful life you asked and deserved."
Yeosang could only shot a grin, knowing he should trust Minji in his 'very' dependent life.
"Okay...I'm ready."

June 15, 2018
3:19 p.m.
"Wooyoung-ah, why do we need to hang these banners when Yeosang isn't even awake yet?" San asked his boyfriend, questioning his spontaneous actions.
The younger rolled his eyes with sass, "To celebrate his birthday, duh! This is me being thankful that he's still alive." He giggled before pinning the banner above the door.
"Guys, I got the cake." Yunho exclaimed when entering inside Yeosang's hospital room, placing the box of cake on the desk.
"Sweet!" Wooyoung clapped enthusiastically, heading towards Yunho to check the cake.
Seonghwa's group of friends were literally standing like statues, finding it unusual for Wooyoung to celebrate Yeosang's birthday while in coma since that is what the doctor had said. Meanwhile, Seonghwa found it wholesome. He smiled the entire time, appreciating Wooyoung and Yunho's efforts to plan a small birthday celebration for his husband.
It's been almost a day after the accident. Until now, Yeosang has not woken up yet but it was good to know that he is stable.
Within those hours of being with Yeosang, Seonghwa took time to appreciate everything that his husband has done for him. He was so thankful to have Yeosang in his life, and kept muttering his I love you's to him.
Seonghwa gently took Yeosang's frail hand and intertwined it with his own. His heart racing whenever he touches Yeosang felt so surreal. He never felt like this with anyone, not even Lia.
"Happy birthday, Yeosang. Please wake up soon, my love."
Yeosang's eyes slowly opened, and the first thing he saw was the white ceiling filled with party decorations, and then fixed his gaze to the person he loves.
"Hwa..." The blonde mumbled softly but with a hint of endearment.
Everyone was flabbergasted that Yeosang already woke up. Wooyoung jumped in excitement, and almost all of them sighed in relief. Seonghwa could feel the tears forming on his eyes as he was joyful to know that his husband is finally okay.
"Are you okay?" The eldest asked carefully, trying not to scare him with his excitement.
Yeosang could only hummed in response. Now that he's alive and prepared to spend the rest of his life with peace and love, Yeosang took his opportunity to tell Seonghwa these words he had been dying to tell him ever since.
"I love you, Seonghwa."
Seonghwa couldn't help but shed happy tears with a crescent shape forming on his lips.
"I love you too, Sangie."
