Prologue

"You're never coming back, you hear?! Never!" my 'mother' shouts, waving her fists at me. I flip her off before stuffing my hands in my pockets and walking down the street, staring up at the sky. It wasn't my fault that the dog died, or a shard of glass impaled my sister's throat. I wasn't bringing bad luck. It was just coincidence.

'Oh, who am I kidding. It always ends up like this...' I mutter in my head, lowering my gaze to the ground and feeling my eyes turn darker. The truth was that I never had any biological family. They all died. Or at least nobody knew where they were, which was as good as being dead. I was adopted by a couple, until an immense misfortune fell over them and only passed when they kicked me out. So far, I had been returned to the orphanage seven times. I wasn't going back there this time, though. I've had enough.

As I left the gate, my hood pulled far over my face, a guard approaches me.

"Excuse me, how old are you? It's dangerous outside of this gate and we can't let anyone that's under-age out." he asks politely. I glance up at him, then gently float into the air and glide over his head.

"A-A fairy!" he shouts, pointing at me. I sigh, landing on the grass and walking towards the forest. Everyone waiting outside to get into the city parts like I carry the plague on me. I barely ever showed my powers as a fairy now, because of the second couple I stayed with. I flew around the room once because I was bored and my father beat me, saying I was unnatural and a monster. He wasn't a great dad.

After a while, I come across a cone-shaped building sitting in a clearing. I pull my hood back and look at it, wondering when it got there. I hadn't heard any news in town of a new tavern or house nearby. I push open the door and am greeted by the smiling face of a young lady. Her smile falters for a second out of surprise when she notices my eyes, but she recovers quickly. The difference between my eyes and a normal human's eyes were that my left one was silver and my right was sky blue.

"Welcome to the boar's hat bar! What can I get you?" she asks. She had long, pale hair that looked like a sheet on silver rather than actual strands of hair. I glance around behind her and notice what seemed to be a boy behind the bar, drying a glass with a piece of cloth.

"I'll have a drink. Anything this can buy me." I say, taking out what little money I had on me. The boy beckons me over and counts the coins, then scoops them up and sets about serving me a drink.

"Are you from around here? I was wondering if you could tell me about the city." he asks, his blonde hair falling over green eyes. The alcohol he gave me definitely seemed to be stronger than what I paid for.

"It's a terrible city. I was just leaving there." I reply, my hands around the mug. The girl and boy glance at eachother, but remain silent. I finish the drink and stand up, turning to leave.

"What's your name?" the blonde boy calls out as I place my hand on the doorknob. I turn and stare at him for a few seconds, deciding whether I could tell him or not.

"It's (Y/N)," I say, "(Y/N) (L/N)."

"Nice to meet you, (Y/N)!" the boy calls out cheerily, waving at me. I quickly turn away and leave the building. Once I've walked for a few minutes, I slump against a tree.

"Why the hell was he so nice? We only met for a few minutes..." I mutter, leaning back and closing my eyes.

When I wake up again, it's dark. Way dark. I glance around, a bit on edge in the sheer blackness that enveloped me, and hear booming footsteps. Approaching me. I scramble to my feet and away from the tree just as someone steps where I was sitting a few moments ago.

"Hey, watch it!" I shout angrily, staring up at a giant girl. She looks down, confused, then her eyes widen.

"I'm sorry! It's just so dark right now, I couldn't see where I was going..." she says, averting her eyes. I sigh, floating up to her level.

"It's fine. I understand. Want me to guide you? Fairies have good night vision," I offer, taking the chance to look around. The bar in the distance glows brightly, even at this hour.

"Yes, please. I don't want to step on anyone. I just need to get over to the bar there," the giant replies, pointing at the cone. I nod, grabbing her finger and pulling her forwards, keeping my eyes on the ground. After I deliver her to the bar, she calls a greeting and the blonde boy comes out again.

"Ah, it's you!" he says, staring at me. Then I realise I'm still floating. I quickly descend to the ground, almost glaring at it, preparing for the abuse that was on its way.

"Do you want another drink?" he asks politely, like he hadn't just realised I'm a fairy.

"Um... what?"

~

I ended up staying the night. Don't ask me how. It just happened. I was lying in a bed with Elizabeth, since they didn't have another spare, Meliodas was sleeping on the couch nearby, Ban was in his claimed room, and Diane was outside. It came as a shock first, but I got over it very quickly. Meliodas himself said he would train me to fight better in the morning, and I was looking forward to the future. Whatever it held.
