The Cliffs
(Y/N) POV
The bell rings as it signals the beginning of class.
I look next to me, the desk where Abby normally sits. She's not here today.
Is she maybe sick?
The day goes on and I have this overwhelming feeling in my stomach that something is wrong...I just feel it.
Maybe it's the fact that since I moved here, Abby has never missed a day of school. Maybe it's just the sense of difference that has me feeling strange.
The day ends quickly and I return home...but the feeling doesn't go away...I still feel like something is wrong. Massively wrong.
"Dear, something on your mind?" Mom asks as I shrug
"I don't think so," I say unsure as she smiles
"Something happen at school?" She asks.
"No...just...Abby wasn't there," I say as a smirk appears on her face.
"Ohhhhhh....that's what it is," she says looking at me
"You miss her," she finishes.
"Mum, I don't think so," I tell her
"I think you do, I think you wuv her," she says playfully.
"Mom, I'm not in kindergarten," I say as she winks
"Are you sure? Because seeing you two together is adorable!" She says fangirling as I shake my head.
"Stop...just stop," I say as she laughs.
"If you're so worried about her, then check up on her," she says
"Mom, that's creepy," I say as she giggles
"No, it's cute! If I had someone so worried about me that they came to my house to check up...id fall in love instantly," she says
"Not everyone is as gullible as you are," I point out as she puffs her cheeks
"I'm not gullible!" She says
"You'd be surprised," I say as she shrugs
"You should check on her," she says reverting to the previous conversation.
"Fine," I mutter as she claps her hands
"Have fun!" She says as I stare daggers at her.
I leave the house and head over to Abby's. It didn't take me long before I was on her doorstep.
My heart pounds in my chest.
She's totally gonna think I'm creepy.
I knock on the door and wait
"Abby?" Someone asks as the door opens. I see her little brother in front of me.
"Cooper, hi," I say remembering his name
"You the guy Abby brought home the other day," he says as I nod
"Yeah," I say looking over him inside the house
"Is Abby home? She wasn't at school today," I say as he raises his brow.
"Wait what? She wasn't! She left this morning, hasn't come back," he says as my heart drops a little.
"Where'd she go!" I ask as he shrugs
"I don't know," he mutters as my stomach drops.
"She didn't tell you anything?" I ask him
"As I said, I do not know," he mutters as I curse
"Ok," I mutter as I leave the doorstep
Was she kidnapped?
I follow the route she takes to school, I didn't see anything out of the ordinary.
What did I expect!
Worry fills me to the bone even more now.
"(Y/N)!" I hear someone call out.
My heart rate spikes as I turn around expecting to see Abby.
Instead, I see a classmate.
"What?" I ask trying to get back to searching.
"You hang out with Abby right?" They ask as I nod
"Why do you ask?" I ask
"She's at a party near the cliffs," they say
"Where are they!" I instantly ask.
"You don't know? They are near the lake around here," they finish as I go sprinting.
I didn't care how long it took me. I'll see Abby before the night ends.
I used my smartphone to find the exact location of these cliffs they say. Apparently, they are quite big, and they go into the river.
A lot of kids try to jump into it, but due to past incidents, no one ever has the guts to do it.
It took me an hour to sprint to the location.
A Party indeed. Although, instead of dancing to music, the crowd was chanting "Jump! Jump! Jump!"
My mind goes to the student's hatred for Abby, and I push my way through the crowd.
As I got nearer, I saw Abby standing on the edge.
Her bullies were smirking, and she was crying.
My heart breaks as I try to push my way through the crowd.
I see it, I can see the moment when she snaps.
Her hopeless expression turns into defeat.
And I see any will to live, the want to fade away.
She takes a step toward the edge, and I scream
"Don't jump!" I yell as she stops and readies to step back...and then a girl pushes her.
She loses her balance and plummets.
My heart stops, I get through the crowd, who is extremely silent now...and I hear the worst thing in my life.
Abby didn't scream, the only indication she reached the water, was the life-shattering splash.
It didn't sound like a splash though...more as if a splat.
I rush to the edge to see if she's okay, spotlights illuminated the water from the seemingly near-endless drop.
I saw her body float for a moment, and then start to sink as she is motionless...can Abby even swim!
I launch myself off the cliff without a second thought.
I don't know why, my legs just moved.
I enter into a diving position and when I hit the water it feels like my fingers break.
My body burns as I enter the cold water.
The spotlights do a wonderful job of lighting up under the water as well, and I find Abby quickly.
I swim toward her lifeless body, grab it, and then I swim to the surface.
When I resurfaced, I struggled to keep us both afloat.
The shore was maybe 60 meters away.
My muscles are starting to burn just from treading water,
I force myself to move toward the shore, all while I keep Abby's head above the water at all times.
She hasn't moved since I grabbed her...I hope she isn't...I hope...I hope she is ok.
After what seems like forever, I feel my feet touch the ground underwater and I use my very exhausted legs to push us toward land even quicker.
Once on solid land, with no wasted moment, I place Abby on the ground and check for breathing...which isn't happening.
My life drains from my body.
CPR.
I do CPR on her without a second thought.
I dial 911 and deal with them as I focus on giving Abby CPR.
Mouth to mouth, chest compressions.
It all mixes into one.
And then I hear a breath, and another. And another.
Abby is alive.
The rest of the night is a blur. I remember a lot of emergency lights.
And I also remember the terrible feeling I had when they loaded her into an ambulance.
Please. Be ok.
