Over the next few months, Matthew called or texted every day and we ended up laughing and crying and really getting to know each other well. It turned out that I had more in common with Matthew than I did Mark. At some point we ended up talking about sex.

"What was Mark to you?" Matthew asked

"He was my first and only. I wanted to marry him; I would never have given myself to him if I knew that it would be like this. How about you have you been with anyone?"

"No" Matthew answered "Everyone I dated fell for my brother, then the one person I really wanted was my brothers and he threw her away like a rag doll."

I did not know what to say to that. I didn't think that he was talking about me. So, I was silent

"Karen? Are you ok?" He asked worried

"Yeah, I am I just don't know what to say to that. But do you know what happened to her?"

"Yes," he said "I am lucky enough to be talking to her. "

Still not understanding that he was talking about me "How is it going with her?" I asked with tears in my voice. I could not help but feel jealous of the girl as Matthew had become my rock in this time.

"Don't know, I hope to find out when I move to be with her."

"You're moving?" I say in surprise.

"Yes! I thought I told you that I was moving up to be with you at the end of the year."

"I forgot...sorry." thinking about it "so the girl you like is here? Do I know her?"

"Yes Karen, I would hope that you know her as not knowing yourself is a worry."

"Huh?" I ask stupidly trying to understand what Matthew was saying.

"It's you ok, Karen! I love you...I was jealous of my brother having you, being with you and then he just threw you away because you did work out of town for a bit. He didn't even bother to understand why you left!"

I was silent for a while "I want to say I love you too Matthew, but I can't, your brother has screwed me up too much for that."

"I understand, please let me show you that I am not him?"

"If you come, I will. " I say

"Karen?" He asked

"Yes?"

"Will you marry me for the baby's sake?" He asked

"If you come I will " I say, not expecting him to come.

"I'll come." He promised "My biggest problem will be getting a teaching position up there I just hope that I can. Would you be prepared to move to where I am if I can't though. "

" If you still want me to" I say still not believing that he would want me.

"I do. If you can't work where I end up, that's ok. I will look after you both for as long as I live."

"Thank you" I say as I can hear he meant it.
