My Blue Mermaid Preview

A ship bobbed in the waters out at sea. The people on it looked at the sky.

"Isn't it such a wonderful day? It's perfect weather for the party tonight." Ruby's maid, Larimar, said as she gazed at the waters.

Princess Ruby looked up at the cloudless sky, dressed in her boyish clothes. "It is great weather for my birthday celebration."

"Still, we should ask the ocean creatures for a blessin'. You never know what's goin' happen." An older crew member said.

"Why bother?" Larimar replied. "There's no possibility of a storm. Besides, those creatures aren't even real."

Another crewman, a young one, peeked out. "Sea creatures? What kind of creatures?"

"Oh, tons! The old one happily said. "Gods, animals, the Kracken...but the most famous would have to be the merpeople."

"Merpeople?" Larimar laughed. "Ruby, don't listen to this nonsense. They're all crazy!"

Ruby rolled her eyes. "Let him talk."

"Legend has it there's a whole kingdom of 'em at the ocean floor. And don' say there's no chance of danger. That's what that war ship comin' ter invade us thought, and they sank."

Ruby laughed. "Take it down a notch before you scare me into canceling my party." She looked out into the water. "Merpeople, huh?" She stared into the depths of the ocean. However, the water wasn't clear enough for her to see the events underneath. "I wonder what silly, fun things they do down there."

"GIVE ME MY HAIRBRUSH, YOU SLUT!" Aquamarine screamed. She swam at Blue Topaz, her gradient blue tail thrashing.

"Hold on, I'm almost done!" Her sister whined, slapping the other mermaid with her light tail.

"Cut it out, you guys are gonna piss off Pearl!" Lapis said, polishing her dark blue tail in front of the mirror.

"Don't try to blame them, Lapis!" Turquoise said, trying to situate her boobs, grabbing and letting go. "It's not their fault Pearl's batshit crazy!"

"Guys, be quiet and act sane! Pearl's coming!" Opal hissed.

Everyone dropped it. Pearl swam in. "Are you five almost done?"

"I would be if Topaz would give back my hairbrush!"

"You should have finished sooner, like Sapphire. Look at her things. She's all ready. Do you see a left-behind showy seashell bra on her bed, Turquoise? No! Because Sapphire understands what a screw-up she was at rehearsal and is finally taking action. So change, Turquoise. That's your normal top. The rest of you, follow me. Turquoise can catch up." She swam out.

Lapis let go of her boobs and looked down. "Dammit!"

The others followed Pearl. She led them out of the palace to the concert hall. They went backstage and then under the stage to the shells. They were all closed.

"Sapphire must've come early and gone into her shell. You should learn from her. Anyways, just like we rehearsed. Aquamarine and Opal in the first shell, Lapis and Blue Topaz in the second, and I'm with Turquoise. Be prepared, the concert is about to start." Everyone got in the shells.

Meanwhile, Corundum was making her grand entrance. She rode in on a chariot pulled by dolphins. The merpeople in the stands cheered for her. She waved to her subjects as the dolphins dropped her off at her balcony and swam away. The applause died down as she prepared to speak.

"Thank you, thank you. I am very excited for today's very special event. All of my daughters put so much effort into this performance, and I hope you are able to recognize their hard work. I would like to thank Pearl for writing this song, but the real star of this show is Sapphire.

"I knew her voice was special when she was at a very young age. I tried convincing her to share it with our world, but it took a lot of time to win her over. She finally agreed and she is here today with a very special song! Please welcome my children, not a single Y chromosome among them!"

Everyone cheered as the lights dimmed. The orchestra started to play. Spotlights lit up the stage as three shells rose up.

The first seashell opened, containing Aquamarine and Opal.

"We are-"

The second shell popped open, presenting Lapis and Blue Topaz who joined in the song.

"-the daughters of-"

The third shell revealed Turquoise and Pearl, who harmonized with their sisters.

"-Corundum!"

They swayed with the water. "Great mother who loves us and named us well!"

"Turquoise..." The group chimed.

"Aha ha, aha ha, aha HA!" She sang the solo.

"Aquamarine..."

"Ha ha ha ha ha haaaa..."

"Blue Topaz..."

"Oh ho ho..."

"Pearl..."

"Ha ha ha..."

"Lapis..."

"Hee hee hee..."

"Opal..."

"Ah ah ah..."

They all sang together again as a fourth shell began to rise.

"And then there is the youngest in her musical debut.

"Our seventh little sister, we're presenting her to you.

"To sing a song Pearl wrote with passion like a fire.

"She's our sister Sapphi- OH!" The shell opened, empty. The sisters gasped in shock.

Queen Corundum grew furious. "SAPPHIRE!"

A/N: I'm really looking forward to this and I hope you are too! It's going to be closer to the plot of The Little Mermaid than My Red Princess was to Cinderella.

-Princess Sapphire: Seventh daughter of Queen Corundum of the Atlantic Merpeople Kingdom, Sapphire is a free spirit and wanderer. She doesn't like all the responsibilities and restrictions placed on her by her mother, so she spends her time adventuring, collecting human artifacts with her friend Steven, and consulting Amethyst.

-Queen Corundum: Ruler of

-Princess Pearl: First daughter of Queen Corundum of the Atlantic Merpeople Kingdom, Pearl is her mother's right-hand mermaid and in training to take over herself one day. She finds Sapphire's activities a nuisance because she most often falls victim of them. While Pearl is uptight and puts rules first, she can really come through at times.

-Amethyst: Though Amethyst lacks major academic ability, she makes up for it with so-called "wisdom" of human objects, needs, and culture. She occasionally helps Sapphire with her schemes, but prefers to relax and bask in the sun.

-Steven: Sapphire's BFF and adventure partner.

-Opal, Lapis, Turquoise, Blue Topaz, and Aquamarine: The second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth daughters of Queen Corundum of the Atlantic Merpeople Kingdom in that order. Opal and Pearl are actually fraternal twins, but Pearl was born eight minutes earlier despite being the smaller child. Lapis is adopted. You might remember Turquoise from the last book. Blue Topaz...uh...Aquamarine is my gemsona!

Princess Ruby- Vacationing princess celebrating her seventeenth birthday. She's in the mood for adventure.

Larimar- Ruby's maid and mentor.
