C'est La Vie

Mallory opened up his eyes and saw his feet planted on the building walls. The breeze blew into his hair as he stared down.

The police who gathered earlier gazed at him with pure confusion and fear. Don's voice appeared again.

"Let's walk down."

Mallory shuddered then stepped forward. After being comfortable with the fact he is defying gravity, he ran towards the streets. The crowd paced back from fear and confusion, except his best friend who came closer and opened up her arms. "Mal!"

"Rose!" Mallory pounced down the cement ground and hugged his best friend. "You don't look as pretty when you do." He joked.

She paced back and yelled. "You idiot! What is up with you and going off buildings?"

A wave of vertigo disturbed Mallory as he fell to the ground. Rose jumped as Don appeared behind them. "This is cute but we should be going now."

Don went to their front and snapped his fingers and hypnotized all the policemen. Mallory stole the officer's keys besides the car, where Roxette is in, and unlocked the door. He also helped Rez get released from the handcuffs. The group hurried to their car as Mallory pulled Rose into the passenger's seat.

The sun was about to set down.

Don requested Rez, the driver, to stop in the middle of the highway. He held Mallory's hand and asked him to go out for just a minute. "I have something important to say to you."

Mallory glimpsed on his best friend. She nodded excitedly and pushed him out of the car. He sighed and calmed down his nerves. He then squinted suspiciously with crossed arms, "What is it, Blondie?"

"I need to give you something." Don spoke with a coy smile. He reached something from his coat and brought out a vintage golden necklace with a key pendant.

"This is something couples do, right?"

"A necklace? How quaint."

Don chuckled. "I'm 230 years old, of course it's old-fashioned." He put the necklace on Mallory, and showed his lover the matching necklace.

"Thank you, Don." Mallory gazed at his necklace and smirked at Don. "I almost felt bad for insulting you the first time we met."

"Don't worry about it. I did mock you back, didn't I?"

Don suddenly kneeled and pulled out an aged papyrus paper with a golden wax seal. He removed the golden seal and put it in his lover's hands.

"W-what is this?" Mallory asked in astonishment.

"It's my soul. I'm leaving it to you.
I... We need to be separate for a while."

Mallory let go and stared at Don with shock, his voice softening from sadness. "...Separate?"

"Look here, love." Don pulled up his cuff and revealed his wrist. Mallory gazed at the wrist tattoo of a sigil as Don explained. "This tattoo was marked on me for the forces of Hell to track me down easily."

Before Mallory could object, Don interrupted him. "I know you don't want to, but it's for your safety. You cannot refuse."

Mallory shook his head repeatedly and cried. "No. H-How could you leave me?"

"Mallory, I'm doing this because I love you."

Mallory looked up to him as tears fell to his face. "What if you meet someone else better than me?"

"That's not possible." Don surely answered.

Mallory wiped off his tears and shouted, startling Don. "How can you be so goddamn sure?"

"Ever since I saw you on that stage, I had a glimpse of all your darkest sins. I knew all your filth and sorrow, and you don't need to tell me about it. Don't ever tell me I don't know you well enough."

"Then why would you still want me?"

"These facts didn't bother me at all because there is no such thing as a saint to me." Don held Mallory's hands up and tightened his grip.

"I liked you at first because you were a real rebel like me. I loved you because I needed you in my life."

"How can you be sure that you love me? I'm nothing but a wreck."

"Mal, your lack of self-love pisses me off."

Mallory laughed subtly as he wiped off his tears. "It's... just what I really feel."

"I promise to make you feel better and to answer your question, I knew that I loved you when you found out I was not exactly human, you didn't try to leave me."

"Well, that's true."

Don smiled as he wiped away his tears. Mallory took a glimpse at his friends who were getting impatient at the distance. He stared at Don and broke down at the thought of leaving the love of his life behind.

"Please don't cry," Don cooed as he embraced Mallory and kissed him softly on the forehead. "After all of this is over, I won't leave your side ever again."

"You promise? Promise me, Don..." Mallory snivelled and whimpered as he hugged Don tighter.

Don thought of the deal he had with Abaddon and vowed. "I promise I will stay on your side forever."

Mallory cherished their moments for a few seconds. He finally let go and gazed at Don one last time, his eyes twinkling from the tears. "I love you."

"I love you too... I will always do." Don whispered wistfully with a sad smile.

He watched Mallory reluctantly walk away and explained to the group. They then waved goodbye at Don, who smiled and returned the wave. He sighed deeply as the car sped off to the sunset.

"C'est la vie," Don sighed to himself as he tried to ease his feeling of regret. He sighed and gazed at the sky.
"Mallory, if he ever knows what I will do... I hope he never will."
