Chapter six

This cannot be happening! Lucas looks up at the intruder with furrowed brows and says, "Hi?" I keep my head down, looking at the red tablecloth. "Hello, Avyanna."

The cushion next to me dips and I look up to see Grey's face next to mine. "Do you know each other," Lucas asks. I rip my gaze from Grey's face to Lucas' confused one. Before I can answer Grey cuts me off and says, "Yes. We are working on a project together." Grey clasps my hand on the table and forces a smile at Lucas.

Lucas' eyes drift down to our hands and I take my hand from Grey's. The two boys stare at each other for a couple of minutes and I am the one to break the silence. "What brings you here, Grey." Lucas and I are looking at Grey, but Grey is looking at me.

"I wanted to explore this city. I happened to find this restaurant."

No one says anything. I look at Lucas and give him an apologetic smile. He smiles back at me. The moment is broken when Grey says, "So what are you guys doing here?"

Lucas was about to answer when Elena came to our table with two drinks. "Here are the drinks. The food is being made." Her eyes drift over to Grey. "Would you like anything?"

I take my drink and start drinking. Grey answers, "I'll take whatever they are having. Thank you." I choke on my drink from his answer. Is he going to be staying? He winks at her and she walks away. "You guys don't mind if I stay right? I mean we're all friends here." Lucas and I exchange a look. "Uhhh-" He cuts me off and says, "Great! We're going to have so much fun."

My smile is somewhat awkward. "Yay."

"So what were you guys talking about?" It's not that I don't want Grey around, it's just awkward. I can't help but feel sympathetic towards Lucas because I gave him one chance and Grey interrupts.

"Nothing," I answered. "So, Lucas, who are you?" My face turns so quickly towards Grey that I am afraid I got whiplash. If the alarm doesn't show on my face just know that I am thinking it.

"Excuse me." I can tell this angered Lucas a little bit. His voice had an edge to it and his body stiffened. Grey shrugs with a smirk on his face.

"For as long as I've been here, I've never heard of you." Grey takes Lucas' untouched drink and drinks from it. "Great choice, by the way." By this point, Lucas' face is red with anger. The best analogy would be a ripe tomato.

Lucas picks up the fork on the table and clenches it in his hands, while Grey leans back looking smug. I elbow Grey in his stomach and give him the meanest glare I could muster.

If anything I probably look like a puppy, but there is no harm in trying. "Hey, that was mean." My eyebrows tilt down as my mouth forms a frown.

Grey turns toward me and the wrinkles near his eyes soften. He turns away from me and starts playing with his fingers. The silence continued and we looked downwards. "Apologize, Grey." The thought of Grey being mean for no reason irks me. He looks over at me, startled. We hold our own mini staring competition and just when I think I am about to lose, Grey surrenders. A heavy sigh leaves his lips, "I'm sorry, man." It wasn't very heartfelt but it will have to do for now.

Lucas looks up and confusion clouds his face. His gaze alternated between Grey and me, and all I could do was give him a measly smile. "Uh.. Thanks." When Lucas said it, it sounded as if he was unsure of what just happened. I turn towards Grey and smile, I can only hope he knows how much gratitude I have for him saying sorry.

When I was younger the kids on the playground would always make fun of me for how small I was. If my height currently gives anything away, I was barely a foot. The kids would call me names, and bump into me. Adonis was never there when it happened, he would be playing with the much bigger kids. With no one to hang out with, I would sit in the corner and cry. In truth, I had forgiven them a long time ago. IT never mattered to me too much for me to hold a grudge.

All I wanted was for them to apologize. For them to realize their mistakes and try to make them better. Unfortunately, it has never happened. I've never seen the kids again, and they never saw me. However, I have Clara now to have my back and vice versa. "S-s-so how has your guys' day been."

The best way for me to stop the awkwardness is to lighten the atmosphere. Lucas clears his throat and a blush spreads across his face. He is so cute! In a newborn puppy kind of way. He probably gives great hugs. "It's been good so far. I've had the opportunity to eat lunch with one of the prettiest girls I've ever seen."

Has Lucas had lunch before this? The girl is lucky to have Lucas so smitten with her. I must look curious because Lucas laughs and says, " You don't know who I am talking about do you?" I shake my head and wait for him to tell me. "You. AVyanna. I am talking about you." My eyes widen in realization. "Oh."

Heat creeps up on my neck and my face is engulfed in blush. Lucas is still chuckling across from me and Grey scoffs. "I-i-i-well-i-i-thank you." The words stumble out of my mouth as I become inarticulate. "No problem, princess." A new nickname? Grey grunts beside me, is he okay? He hasn't stopped making noises. I look over towards him and he is leaning back with his eyes holding disbelief. My brows furrow. Did something happen? "What about you, Grey." Grey looks over towards me and raises a brow. "What about me?" Was he even listening this whole time?

"How has your day been?" His eyes widened in realization. "I'm spending my day with you, it can't get any better." Just as the blush from Lucas is about to leave, a whole new clump of blush takes its place. A smirk goes on Grey's face and he stares at Lucas. While GRey looks smug, Lucas looks angered.

"Um. Thank you," I make out. "Anything for you, Bella." Both boys are staring at me and I don't know what to do.

The food arrives in big bowls filled to the brim. There is some type of soup inside the uniquely red bowl. "So, Lucas what are we eating?" Grey looks at the food with curiosity. I can't blame him, I don't know either. A huge grin spreads across Lucas' face. "You, my friends, are in for a treat." I'm not sure what compelled me to look over at Lucas but we both exchanged wary looks. "Guy's relax." Lucas tries to reassure us but it does nothing to calm my nerves.

Lucas grabs his spoon and starts eating. Grey and I remain stagnant, staring at the bowl. Reluctantly I pick up my spoon and scoop up a small amount. The stew drips on the side of the spoon as I bring it up to my mouth. Once I eat the stew my taste buds explode with different flavors. The dish tastes similar to a creamy pasta. Quickly, I get another spoonful. Another one, another one, another one. Both boys stare at me. Oh.

I compose myself and grab a napkin to wipe the corners of my mouth. Clearing my throat says, "It's really good." Grey responds, "I can tell by the way you practically inhaled the food. Blush spreads across my face, "Why don't you try it then." Lucas' and my plate are practically empty while Grey's is still filled.

"Go on, Grey, try it," Lucas taunts. It doesn't go unnoticed by the glare Grey sends his way. Deliberately Grey takes a bite of his stew. Not a single sound goes by while Grey's face remains stoic. An unspoken staring battle goes on between the two boys. Undoubtedly to see who breaks first.

The battle doesn't last long when Grey says, "It's not bad." The breath I didn't even know I was holding, releases. Everyone goes respectfully to their plates in silence.

-

Everyone's meal has been finished and we are all waiting for the check to come. I go to bring my wallet out but Lucas stops me. "Avyanna stop. I'm paying, I'm the one who invited you out." Awkwardly I put my hands down. Out of my peripherals, I see Grey rolling his eyes. What's wrong with him?

Elena brings over the bill, "I hope you all enjoyed the meal." Flashing her a bright smile I respond, "We did. Thank you so much." She gives me a smile back and walks off. Lucas pays and everyone at the table stands up. I put my arms over my head in an attempt to stretch but failed. The only thing I succeed in doing is looking deformed.

"Avyanna, I can take you ho-" Before Lucas can even finish his sentence, Grey says, "No worries I can do it." They both glare at one another while Liucas says, "I can do it." Grey smirks, seeming to find amusement in Lucas' irritation. I fade into the shadows, but only Grey notices. He breaks his stare from Lucas and says, "It's no problem for me. We need to work on our project anyway. Wouldn't want to interrupt your day, Lucas."

Grey frowns tauntingly, he has a point. Deciding to speak up for myself I say, "It's fine Lucas. I don't want you to go out of your way." Finally noticing my presence Lucas turns to me and nods gloomily. "I enjoyed today AVyanna." A part of me feels guilty about the defeated look on his face. I don't know what to do. "I enjoyed today too, Lucas." Despite Grey's interruption, it was nice to go somewhere for lunch. Usually, I stay in the house, so today was a breath of fresh air.

With one last smile, Lucas walks out of the restaurant. "Finally gone," a deep voice grumbles behind me. Turning around to face Grey, I can barely see his face by how tall he is. "That wasn't very nice." He looks down at me with a frown on his face. "He wasn't being nice to me," he argues. "I-i-i w-well," I stumble on my words not sure what to say. Grey raises an eyebrow at me with a look of victory. Finding the right words, I say, "That doesn't mean you have to be mean back."

"Well, he was acting all mushy." Grey begins to walk out of the restroom. "What's that supposed to mean?" He stops walking and gives me a fleeting glance. "I think it was all an act," he responds. "No guy in their right mind acts like that regularly, unless they are trying to get something." Any form of rebuttal falls dry on my lips. Grey's right. Acts such as the one Grey is speaking of are the most deadly kind. The kind that ruined me.

My face must project my downcast because Grey stops walking and turns his full attention to me. "Don't beat yourself up about it. He was only doing it because you are a pretty girl." Blush coats my cheeks at Grey's comment. He might have only been saying it to make me feel better but it doesn't stop the butterflies from spreading throughout my stomach.

I tilt my head downwards and let my hair cascade over my face, covering the pink on my face. Grey uses his index finger and thumb to lift my head. "Don't be shy. You're the most beautiful girl I've ever seen." His voice is filled with sincerity, and his eyes show just how genuine he is. So much so that I can't hold eye contact with him without my face looking like a tomato. "T-t-thank you," I stuttered.

"You don't have to thank me for telling the truth, Bella," he says while turning around to walk. "Are you scared of motorcycles?" The question catches me off guard. Unlike some girls, I'm not very scared of motorcycles. If anything riding one has been one of the things that I want to do, but don't have the courage bucket list. "No, why?" He stops walking and I run into his back. Quickly he turns around and holds my waist so I don't fall. Warmth seeps through his hands onto my waist acting as a thick blanket. For the millionth time today pink envelopes my face.

We both stood there looking into each other's eyes. Not a word or sound passes by and it seems like we are the only two people in the world. Grey is first to break out of the trance and clears his throat. "U-um. You're going to have to ride on my motorcycle," Grey stutters, seeming just as affected as I was by his touch.

Wait. Did he just say he has a motorcycle, and I am riding with him? I am finally going to be able to ride a bike. Nevres and joy clash, I don't know what to be nervous about our jump for joy. The former won and excitement bursts through my body. A smile stretches so wide on my face and reaches both of my ears. Inwardly I do a celebratory dance that is too embarrassing to do in public, but outwardly I jump numerously. Clutching onto Grey's arm, I can't hold my eagerness.

"Really," I ask. Grey smiles, the most gorgeous smile I've ever seen. For a moment I forget about the motorcycle and become mesmerized by his smile. A moment. Amusement can be heard in his tone when he says, "Yeah, we're taking my motorcycle." He holds his hand out for me to take and I swiftly accept barely acknowledging the sparks that tingle throughout my arms.

In front of us is a matte black motorcycle standing in contrast to the many cars in the parking lot. "I only have one helmet, and you're wearing it." I make no move to argue. Grey seems to trust himself enough to go without a helmet. Oddly I seem to trust him even though I've known him for a short period. "Wanna take a ride?"

I nod my head excitedly. "I would love to." Grey gently puts the helmet on my head and buckles it. He walks over to the bike and gets on. I take that as my cue to follow after him. Getting on the bike, behind him, he says, "You're going to have to hold on real tight." Following his instructions I wrap my arms around his waist and hold on like my life depends on it.

Not even a second later Grey takes off and we drive through the city.

-

"How do you know so much about the city already," I ask. Grey is pulling up in front of my house after our adventure. He drove through places I didn't even know of. Sadly it has come to an end. Being on the motorcycle was the most thrilling experience I could have ever had. In a way, it was kinda like flying. I loved it.

"I like to know about the city I love, so I explored the day before school," he responds. I hop off the bike and take off my helmet. "Thank you so much for taking me home and the ride. I did enjoy it." The tips of Grey's ears turn pink. " It was my pleasure, principessa." We both stood there awkwardly for a couple of minutes. "Bye," I say. I turn to walk away but before I can make it a couple of steps "Grey pulls my arm back.

"I, um, when do you want to meet for our project." A part of me hoped that he would have asked for something else, but I can't act on that part. That part of me is what got me in the first place. "Whenever you like," I respond. There isn't anything I have to do, or anywhere I have to be anyway. "Ok," he says. " I'll text you the details." I nod my head, "I'll talk to you later than?" He smiles and replies, "Yeah. Talk to you later."

This time when I turn to walk away, Grey doesn't pull me back. Once I enter the house I hear his engine start and drive down the street. No one is in the house, so I'll be all alone for how long. I go to my room to take a much-needed nap. After all of the events of today, I am beyond exhausted. Who knows what tomorrow will bring?

I know I am late but have you guys heard Chromakopia? I absolutely love the album, its all I have been listening to lately.

Anyways this is a long chapter, I guess. It is long due.
