Chapter four
"What will you do for your box," Clara asks. "I want mine to have a Lana Del Rey aesthetic." I adore Lana Del Rey. She is my Idol. Clara nods at me and starts working on her box.
We are at the same park Grey and I were yesterday. Today is a holiday so we got the school day off. For it to be a holiday I am surprised not many people are outside. There are just a couple of kids here and there. I prefer the kids to be here. They provide joy in this park, with their laughter and smiles.
The summer is leaving its last impact on the air. Unlike yesterday, when it was obvious it was fall, today is much more sunny and warm. Not too hot to where I'm sweating but hot enough for me not to need a jacket.
Clara is wearing a sweater and leggings. I've been asking her if she was hot but she kept answering, I'm too hot to get hot. I'm starting to believe her theory because not a drip of sweat has been on her and she hasn't drank any of the ice lemonade I made.
I on the other hand can't stop sweating. The lemonade is almost gone by how much I've been drinking from it. In contrast to Clara's warm clothes, I am wearing a white dress with cherries across it. My hair is in its natural waves with a scarf covering it.
Avyanna's outfit:
Usually, I wouldn't wear dresses this short but I wanted to step out of my comfort zone. Clara is always encouraging me to be confident in myself and I'm trying. Slowly but surely.
I haven't started my box yet because I haven't been focused. Last night keeps replaying in my mind. Not studying with Grey or going to dinner with Adonis, what had happened after.
Flashback:
Beep. My phone goes off as another text message appears on my phone. I might've said this before but I'm really popular today.
Looking over to my phone I see it's a text from Grey. His texting me late at night should surprise me but it doesn't. For some reason, I expect it from him.
Opening the message I say goodbye to sleep. I was so close to falling asleep but now I'm up. I won't be able to sleep for another hour. Ugh.
Grey: Did you get home safe?
Me: Yeah.
I shut off my phone and a couple of minutes go by before I hear it beep again.
Grey: What are you doing?
Me: Sleeping.
Grey: How are you sleeping if you're texting me?
Me: I'm trying to get my beauty rest.
Grey: You don't need rest. You are already beautiful.
I blush at his text. Why did he have to say that?
Grey: Silent
Me: eyeroll
-
That was how the night went on for 3 hours. 3 HOURS! We kept texting back and forth, Grey always knew what to say. If anything he was carrying the conversation.
Finally resting my eyes, I go to sleep with a smile on my face. A feature that has become permanent since Grey came into my life.
End of flashback.
"Avy, Avy, Avy, Avyanna." Clara snaps in my face. I flinch back. "Are you ok? You were out for a second."
"Yeah, yeah I'm fine," I say nodding my head. How long was I out for? "What were you saying?" Clara dismisses my question. "What were you thinking about Avy." Her whole body was facing mine while a smirk adorned her face. My cheeks heat up. "Nothing," I mutter.,
I wasn't sure if she heard me. She didn't have to. I didn't want to talk about fantasizing about Grey. However, I know she did hear. The wide smile on her face tells me as much.
"Did you happen to be daydreaming about someone who came to our school yesterday?"
Clara is full-on grinning showing all of her teeth. I look downwards in embarrassment. Am I that see-through? Clara laughs out loud for what seems like forever.
"Aw, my Pookie got a crush." She is still laughing at me. I do not have a crush. I just happen to think about Grey a lot and enjoy my time with him. Definity, not a crush. A crush would mean that I like him. I don't like him. No crush here.
I look up at Clara when she stops laughing. "Are you finished?" Clara nods while wiping fake tears out of her eyes. My best friend is so dramatic.
"Let's just get started on these boxes." She shakes her head while finishing her box. Now I definitely have to get started. I grab my phone and put on some Lana Del Rey. Working without music is like not working at all. If I don't have music then I don't do my best. National Anthem blasts through my airpods.
Before we came to the park I already had an idea of what I wanted my box to look like. I had gotten all of the supplies and made sure I brought them with me to the park.
In my box, I had printed out the lyrics from National anthem and glued them inside. On the top is a small mirror covered in pearls with a bow on the top. Beside the mirror is a photo of Lana Del Rey and a kiss. In the box I put my favorite perfume, photos of Clara and me, my favorite lip gloss, some rings, and a self-affirmation note.
AN: I had to include a picture. These are too cute.
Completing my box I turn to Clara to see hers is finished. Hers is similar to mine but has no Lana Del Rey. "Are you finished?" I nod.
"That was so much fun. I wanna make another one." If I could I would probably have a million of these tiny boxes. She laughs and nods. "I have to get going." Clara looks up at me. "Does this have anything to do with the boy you were daydreaming about?" I can already tell she won't let this go.
Laughing I hug her goodbye and head to my house. I need to prepare for lunch with Lucas.
