Chapter 4: They Deserve Those Names

They Deserve Those Names

-----------

I am so sorry for taking so long to upload my Internet went out and then I lost my iPhone.

-------

Every once in a while I come across these stories, they're a lot like Misplace Labels. But they go like this (if paraphrased)

----------

Hey I'm Thorne. I live in some "dystopian" future where a dictator controls us. He even dares suggest that we get jobs to feed our families! I go to the town square and spot the police. The police are so evil because they stop pickpockets and drunks. I go around and check people for valuables subtly, bump to hip, brushing their shoulders etc. I find someone who definitely has a full wallet in his pocket. I quickly lift it off him, except I trip and drop the wallet. He turns around and sees me with wallet. He's so evil, he yells for the police and the police take me to the worst prison ever.

They allow me to talk to my family for 2 hours then they lead me to cell, because these people are the scum of the earth. My cell is so tiny, it's only 50 meters by 50 meter. My bed has a stiff mattress, this is pure torture, in fact. I can't stand the hard mattress, because I'm definitely a poor person rolling in dough. Later, they tell they have my act of theft of cameras and multiple eyewitnesses, so I have to go to jail. Oh no! I'm innocent! I don't deserve to go to jail, they shouldn't be calling me a thief, because I ne'er stole at all.

--------

Stories like this make me want to rip out my hair one by one. This man was clearly caught stealing and he's about to go to jail for it. And often the authors create poorly-done dystopian futures that are basically modern ideas and structures (such as government) in the future with more technology or it's basically a paradise. In one published story that I will not name, the government would send each citizen a perfect meal that would taste good, but still allow the citizen to be healthy. But one incredibly stupid girl, decides to "rebel" by skipping meals because she doesn't like how the government "control's what she eats" even though she's never tasted a bad meal in her life. I swear I almost tore out my eyebrow hair when I read that. For goodness sakes, drawing a picture or writing a poem is not that hardcore. Just because you can't publish works of art, it doesn't mean society crumbling! But I'm getting off topic.

In the example, the character did something wrong and when people own them up to it (shunning them from society; sending them to prison, etc.) they act like the thing that happened wasn't a big deal. And the thing is, they deserve to be called those names.

Because when characters start doing bad things a lot of authors start spouting BS on how their actions are completely normal or justified and how the characters don't deserve these names that actually fit them perfectly. Then there's always the bull where they say "people shouldn't judge."

Then there is always the other variation that includes

-if he steals, he is thief that deserves to go to jail

-if she sleeps around she will be called names.

-if he sleeps with a married lady, what is he expecting? That the husband will give him a pat on the back?

The point is, he definitely deserves to be called all those names, but in some really stupid stories, the character acts like she is completely justified to behave like this. He had it coming, especially considering, he isn't even apologetic for what happened.
