Chapter 11: Format the Book Properly.

This is starting to become ridiculous. Why are authors suddenly unable to format, their books properly? Why should I click on a PG book only to find that it has a vivid, descriptive sex scene. That is nasty. What's worse is the fact that Wattpad won't even let me report stories like that.

Format Your Story Properly

If you're going to call yourself an author, please have the decency to format your story properly.

Let us begin. The first thing that annoys me so much with improper formatting is messed up ratings.

Messed Up Ratings

This is becoming so frequent that I may need to carry an eyedropper full of holy water each time I open up Wattpad. I am tired of opening up "PG" books with explicit sex scenes and foul language. Here is a general outline for each rating;

G:

NO swearing at all

NO sex references at all

NO intimate details

NO drug references

Can be presented to a 5-year old

Next to no violence

Here's an example of a "G" book:

Marlo and Anton travel though the lands of mermaids to find the Jewel of the Amazon.

These are the requirements for a PG book:

MILD swearing (heck, dang, crap)

Indirect sex references (rare sexual innuendoes, kissing.)

FAKE OR LITTLE violence (one punch thrown, chopping up robots)

Very little drug references

Here's an example of a PG story:

Marlo and Anton travel though the lands of mermaids, karate-fighting the fairies who shouldn't be smoking to find the Jewel of the Amazon. (No reference to blood or killing)

PG-13:

SOME half-swears (Damn, hell, crap

Very little outright swears (f---, s---, c----)

Some sexual content (kissing, feeling, vague reference to sexual encounters.)

Some drug references

This is where people really mess up! It's annoying, some PG-13 stories are actually R-rated stories. People don't seem to understand where the line for sex is. PG-13 would describe the moments leading up to sex and (here's the main word) VAGUELY describe the actual sex or not at all.

I am actually going *shudder* to give you an example of a PG-13 sex scene.

"We got hot, we started kissing, our clothes went off and it was pretty awesome."

*shudders* I never want to do that again.

Marlo and Anton travel though the lands of the mermaids, shooting the fairies cocaine supply to find the Jewel of the Amazon

R Rated Books:

Full swears

Explicit Sexual scenes

Drugs

Intense Violence and Gore

Come on, it's not that hard to find out which rating your story belongs to. Just format it properly. Pull it together, people!

Improper Title Format

Format your titles PROPERLY!! A title should never be a full sentence; it should be a SHORT phrase. I never want to witness another terrible title of "Oh, my boyfriend is a vampire and i'm having his baby." There are so many things wrong with this title. First, it has a terrible plot, and it was obviously written by a twelve year old. Second, do you realize that the title would be so hard to bear? Second , I do not how you can pass primary school without knowing the rules for a title.

1. First and last words are capitalized.

2. the title should be a *brief phrase.* It kills me to see books with titles like My Boyfriend's Really Hot and I Want to Date His Friend. This is a complete sentence and it totally gives the plot away

3. Do not capitalize prepositions unless they are the first or last. My Boyfriend In My Mind The preposition "in" should not be capitalized.

4. Do not capitalize articles or conjunctions unless they are first or last. That's A Girl And Her Best Friend is an example of an incorrect title.\

Wrong Genre

I am getting really tired of ridiculous author putting their books in the wrong genre. I clicked on a book about domestic violence but I found that the author had labeled it as "Mystery" I didn't bother wasting my time on that crap.

If you're going to call yourself an author, at least know what genre to put your story in. I don't want to click on  a story under the guise that it is humour, only to find its about someone's death.

ETC

No more repeating chapters, it makes your story hard to navigate,.

Do not italicise or bold unnecessary words.

Do onot put links in your story, do you really think we have time to type a 35 character link?

To summarize my rant... if you're going to call yourself an author, please have the decency to format your story properly. Rate your story accordingly, title the story in proper format, and  place it in the correct genre
