The Pokemon Characters:

Emerald- Espeon

Silas- Shinx

---------------

Ding Dong

Emerald looked up from her book of old tales she was reading, her ears flicked at the sound echoing around the house. Annoyed, she started to walk down the hall from her room to get the door. 'Who would want to come and visit at 10:00 in the evening?' However, before she even set foot to the stairs, a lavender and pink colored paw reaches the staircase, as her father slipped past her quickly.

"Don't worry, I'll get that." He said in a hurry. His pawsteps walked rapidly down the stairs and went to go open the door.

Curious, Emerald stayed at the top of the stairs and looked down behind the railings as her father brushed his fur lightly. His long tail twitched behind him as he opened the door, revealing a Luxray and a Shinx.

"Good evening!" Her father greeted as the two Pokemon walked inside. "I was expecting you to arrive tomorrow at noon."

"The sooner the better," The Luxray responded, "Especially due to the conflicts we've been facing with the Dark types as of lately."

"I told you traveling at night wasn't a good idea, dad." The Shinx scolded playfully.

The Espeon purred, "You must be Silas. You're father has told me a lot about you."

"Really?" His yellow eyes glowed happily.

'Wow, isn't he an attention seeker,' Emerald thought, rolling her eyes. She hopped down the stairs and stood beside her father, waiting for a proper introduction.

"Ah yes. This is my daughter, Emerald," Her father introduced to his new personal guard.

"Nice to meet you, young one," The Luxray dipped his head, "I am Leon and this is my son Silas."

"Hello," Silas greeted politely. The yellow tip of his tail sparked with electricity and Emerald assumed he was happy to meet someone new.

"Hi," Emerald replied back, feeling less enthusiastic.

"You too can stay here and chat," Her Father said while closing the door, who obviously was oblivious of his daughter's lack of interest, "While Leon and I need to go and discuss some business."

Emerald watches as her father and the Luxray walk towards the warehouse in the backyard where they keep tabs and books about the technologies of the humans and try to re-learn them. That warehouse was built before this house was, her father once said; to be rebuilt by the paws and minds of Psychic. It holds secrets and classified information about the humans before they disappeared, many of which happened to survive the countless centuries that have passed by since of their existence.

Once the two Pokemon walked out the back door, Emerald turned and saw Silas wandering around her house looking at the artifacts displayed in awe.

"So where are you from?" Emerald asked breaking the silence that lingered between them after their fathers had left.

"Oh I'm from Voltic City, it's not far from here," He said distractedly, "Wow! Are these actual portraits of mega evolutions of Pokemon?"

Emerald's chest filled with pride. "Yup. My father's a famous businessmon. And some of those portraits are gifts for his hard work and intelligence."

"Well you guys are Psychics, so I wouldn't be too surprised."

'You were just a minute ago,' Emerald bit her tongue before she could say that out loud.

"Are you close to evolution yet?" Silas asked suddenly.

She hesitated, "Not exactly."

"Oh right! Haha silly me. Your origin was Eevee so I guess that's pretty much final stage."

"Why? Are you close to your evolution?" She retorted, feeling suddenly defensive.

Silas shook his head and didn't seem to notice Emerald's sudden change of attitude, "No, but my father says I'm close! I can't wait."

Emerald scoffed, 'It's like nothing can bring his positive attitude down.'

"Anyways, why are you guys visiting if I may ask?" She wondered, eager to change the subject.

"Oh your father hasn't told you yet?"

Curiosity spread throughout her mind, "No actually he didn't."

Silas walked around the house some more. "Well, my father was chosen to work for your family and he accepted gladly because our fathers were, and still are close friends. So I guess we'll be staying with you."

"Here? In this house? Together?" Alarm spread through Emerald's mind.

Silas laughs, a laugh that that was genuine and matches his bubbly personality, "Yes. I'll be sharing a room and bathroom with you. Eating the same food you will eat, be at your side twenty-four seven, and try to emulate every move you make."

Emerald gasped and took a step back. Her fur stood up on its end . "No way! That's creepy! You're serious?!"

Silas collapsed on the floor in laughter. Sparks of electricity bounces off his blue and black body. "I'm just joking! Haha... You sure take a thing too seriously."

"Well I'm not really the joking type at times," She said simply, her fur starting to lie flat at the "reassuring" remark.

"Though I am going to stay here. But my father and I will be staying in your guest house."

"Good. To think you'll be sharing a room with me is a definite no," Her tail wrapped around her paws as she sat on the floor.

"Why? I don't seem that bothersome to you do I?" Silas joked, though Emerald could see a shade of hurt flash in his eyes yellow eyes.

Feeling a pang of sympathy and regret, she laughed and said quickly, "Of course not. I was just kidding, that's all."

"I thought you said you weren't the joking type?" He smirked.

"I said at times didn't I?" She challenged.

Silas raised a paw in the air, "Okay okay! You won."

Emerald lifted her chin in the air in satisfaction.

"My, my, what such hubris you have, dear," A soft voice spoke behind her.

Emerald turned around and saw her mother at the top of the stairs. Her purple eyes full of amusement.

Silas dipped his head respectfully, "Greetings ma'am."

"And as to you too, young one." Her mother replied.

Emerald ducked her head in embarrassment. Yes, it was true that her ego can take up a lot of space and most likely block her head. She couldn't help her competitive nature. Especially when her somewhat "rival" is the same age as her but a little bit more mature for a ten year old.

"Sorry," She mumbled.

Her mother smiled and walked down the stairs gracefully then stood next to her daughter, "You were always the most prideful out of all your friends. This doesn't surprise me."

She looked up, "Oh I-"

"However, we must treat our guest with respect, as they will be respecting us," Her mother interrupted, "And that means having control over what we say and how we express our attitude."

Emerald nodded, "Yes mother."

"Good," She turned to Silas, "How is training coming along for you?"

"Pretty well," He responded.

"What are you training for?" Emerald asked, curiosity filling her mind of this training.

Silas looked flustered, "I.. well.. It's kinda complicated to explain.."

"Silas is training to become your personal guard," Her mother answered for him, "It's just like how Leon is your father's own guard."

'Personal guard?!'

"Wait... you're joking right?" Emerald laughed nervously and silently hoped what her mother said wasn't true.

Her mother looked confused. "Why? Is there something wrong with that?"

"Oh no, there's nothing wrong... It's just why didn't you and father tell me about this?!" She snapped, "A personal guard? Why would I ever need one? I don't need protecting! I am capable of protecting myself. Do you think I'm that vulnerable? I'm not! Don't underestimate me!"

"I am not underestimating you, Emerald," Her mother said sternly, "Due to all the problems and conflicts we have been facing with the Dark types recently, it is very important to keep you safe and well protected. Silas is the most compatible in doing so especially when your father and I won't be around as much."

Emerald scoffed, "Silas is the same age as me, mother. That does not make him better in any way."

"In attitude, he is," She retorted, "He will be training alongside you while you are learning more about your powers and potential."

"That's not fair! You never asked me if I was okay with any of this!"

"I'd watch your tone if I were you, Emerald," Her mother growled.

"No! I will not!" With that, Emerald stomped upstairs without another word and slammed her door shut.

--------------------

Knock Knock

"Go away," Emerald muttered, her face half buried in her pillow.

The door creaked open revealing Silas with a tray of food in his mouth.

"Didn't you learn anything about privacy in your training?" She snapped.

Silas placed the food tray on her bed, "Here... Since you didn't come downstairs for dinner," There was a long, awkward silence between them,"I'm sorry for all of this. I didn't really have much of a say when my father started training me to be your guard."

"Well doesn't that suck," She said sarcastically.

"I'm serious," He sat at the foot of her bed, "All of this is unfair, I agree. But your parents do care a lot of about you, Emerald, they want to keep you safe. That's why my father has been training me all these years. I know we don't really know each other and I know you're against the whole idea of me being your personal guard, but you need to start thinking about reality. It's not happy and perfect like those old tales you read, it's life and it's difficult. It will be even more dangerous when you go outside and out of town and most likely be ambushed by other types, specifically Dark types."

Emerald groaned, "Just get to the part that really matters, will you?"

Shooting her a glare, he continued, "All I'm saying is that... Don't think I'm training to be your guard for nothing. There are reasons. And one of those reasons is to protect you."

She snorted, "Yeah a ten year old Pokemon like you could stand up to those intimidating Dark types. I'd like to see that."

"You don't get it do you?"

"Oh I get it, alright," She said jumping off her bed to stand in front of Silas, "My mother probably sent you up here to tell me all those things and probably to get me to to trust you. But news flash, you're no better than a stranger to me right now so get out of my room."

"No she didn't!" He pleaded. "I came up here on my own! I promi-"

"Stop, I don't want to hear it," Emerald turned her head away, "Just get out of her Silas."

"Why are you so stubborn? Why can't you just trust me?"

"I said get out!" Her red jewel on her forehead glowed brightly turning her room into a dark shade of scarlet.

Silas growled at her. Electric waves bounced of his body in anger, "Fine. You want to be alone, Emerald? Go ahead. But this won't stop me from continuing my training. I'm still your guard whether you like it or not. I don't care if you despise me years from now. That's your problem, not mine."

Finally, he turned around and walked calmly out of her room, closing the door behind him.

When he was gone, Emerald collapsed on the floor in fatigue. Right now she felt emotionally unbalanced and she didn't know why. She didn't know why she snapped at Silas and she didn't know why her pride took advantage of her again. All she knows is that something has changed between her and the Shinx. Something snapped. A new feeling stirred inside her and she finally knew the feeling she felt towards Silas. And probably the same feeling he felt towards her.

Loathing.

Unadulterated loathing.

-----------------

Four years later...

"Emerald, use psychic again!" Her father commanded.

Emerald focused on her power and channeled her energy in her red jewel on her forehead. Taking in a deep breath, she released her power and aimed at the Pokemon dummy a couple of feet ahead of her. Clouds of smoke surrounded the dummy as it fell back from the impact.

Her father nodded in approval, "Well done. You can go and take a break for the day."

Flicking her tail in satisfaction, she went and laid on the back porch basking in the sun. Emerald, now fourteen years of age, was able to master over her powers easily.

Throughout the last four years, Emerald and Silas never got along ever since their

As she laid on the porch, she was able to see Silas and his father train on the other side of the argument when they were ten. It was true, she despised him and they would exchanged a glance of hate whenever they see each other. He has become more mature and serious which is different from his usual optimistic attitude. As Emerald watched Leon train with Silas, she couldn't help but admire his determination as he battled. His yellow eyes would spark and he never hesitated when he would be fighting. It's like he always had a plan.

As she kept watching him some more, their eyes suddenly met and Emerald couldn't pull her gaze away from his sharp electric eyes. Though as always, his stare would show no emotion whatsoever and he was back to battling with his father. Emerald shook her head in disgust and silently scolded herself for thinking such compliments about him.

'I just really need to get away from here right now.'

"I'm going out for a walk," She announced as she got up from the porch.

Her father tilted his head back and stared at the sky. The sun was already setting and the moon was visible through the white clouds.

He shook his head, "It's dangerous at night, Emerald. Maybe tomorrow."

"Dangerous?" She scoffed, "I'll just stay within the neighborhood. I won't go too far."

"Well..." Her father hesitated.

"Just as long if Silas will come with you!" Her mother called from inside the house.

Emerald growled, "I'm fine mother, I don't need anyone to watch over me. It's just a walk for Arceus sake!"

"At night," Her father added, "You know how I feel about the Dark types, Emerald. Walking at night means walking in their domain."

"There has never been a Dark type spotting here in our land," She objected.

"But there could be one," He countered, "Please, just listen to me just this once. I want you to be safe at all times. So either you take Sias with you or you can't go walking at all."

Emerald gaped at her father's sudden command. With a flick of her lavender and pink tail she reluctantly nodded in agreement.

"Good," Her father turned to where Silas was resting after training with his father, "Silas come over here please."

The Shinx waited until his father gave him a small nod then came padding over to where Emerald and her father stood.

"Yes sir?" He said.

"I would like for you to accompany Emerald when she goes out for a walk tonight," He replied, "I give you every bit of my trust to keep her safe. Are you ready for your task?"

"I am ready, sir," He nodded solemnly, "I promise that I will guard her with my life."

Emerald narrowed her eyes at the Shinx waiting to hear an edge of doubt in his voice, but to her surprise, Silas showed no emotion of tension between them.

'It's like he really means it,' Emerald shook her head in disbelief.

"Very well," Her father looked relieved as if he knew he made the right choice in appointing Silas as her personal guard, "You two may go but don't stay out too long. Have a good walk."

--------------------

The cool night breeze swept through Emerald's fur as she padded along on the sidewalk. She loved the smell of the crisp air at night. Silas seemed to be enjoying himself too especially since they both have been training since noon. The only thing that seemed to bother them was the awkward silence that lingered between them as they walked.

"So..." Silas started slowly, "How's training going for you?"

Emerald sniffed nonchalantly, "It's going good I guess. The moves I'm learning are getting easier to perform."

"Good to hear."

"What about you?"

Silas shrugged, "It's alright, just the usual."

'Another awkward silence again... How great!'

"It's been a while, huh?" She suddenly said.

"What's been?"

"A while since we actually talked."

"Oh," He shuffled his paws on the concrete, "Yeah it has been."

"I didn't want things to turn out like this, honestly," Emerald admitted.

Silas snorted, "Well gee, I wonder who's fault was that."

Her fur suddenly fluffed up in defense, "Excuse me?"

"Hey, I'm just stating the truth here."

"Well aren't you such a smart mon," She said sarcastically, "It was never my fault in the first place. If you and your father hadn't shown up, my life would've been back to the way it was."

"Oh you mean shutting yourself out from everyone and reading old tales about nonsense in your room all the time?" Silas shot back, "Yeah some life."

"At least I have a life," Emerald growled, "You trained your whole life for some useless job as a guard."

"Maybe I wanted to become a guard," He snapped, "Maybe all I wanted to do in life was serve and protect the people I love because the world took what I loved away from me, Maybe because I lived my whole life without a mother to care for me and a father who I barely see anymore because of his new job. I wanted to become a guard so I can be in the same field as my father so that one day I can grow up to be just like him!"

Emerald took a step back from his sudden burst and hung her head in regret. Not only did she felt guilt build up inside her but she felt despair that she didn't know Silas's story. He's right, all she did was care about herself and shut everyone out.

"Silas," She swallowed back tears of hurt, "I'm sorry... I didn't know... I-" She quickly stopped herself because if she said anything more, tears would explode from her eyes in an instant.

But Silas didn't seem fazed by her remorse. He gave her a cold stare and stalked ahead of her, leaving Emerald alone in the street.

"Wait!" She called, "Where are you going?!"

All she could see now was a black shadow ahead of her which disappeared in a heartbeat.

"Fine! I see how it is!" She yelled after him. But fear crept up inside her. They have walked a long way from her neighborhood and was suddenly in the middle of nowhere.

"I can find my way back home," She said out loud, "I don't need his help."

A branch suddenly snapped behind her and Emerald whipped around to see where the noise came from.

"Who's there!" She tried so hard to make her voice sound firm but only a squeak came out from her mouth, "Show yourselves you cowards!"

"Cowards, eh?" A male voice cackled in the shadows, "This little runt thinks she can call us whatever she wants."

A dark figure stepped out of the shadows revealing a tall, scarred Absol. He flicked his dark blue blade like tail, signalling more Absols to come out from behind him. There were two other Absols, which they also had scars visible on their white bodies. They stood behind their leader, growling furiously at Emerald..

"What are you Dark types doing in Psychic territory?" She sneered.

"Nothing that concerns you," The leader spat, "We can't have any witnesses knowing that we are trespassing. So I guess this means that this will be the end of you, runt."

The two Absols bared their teeth and lunged towards Emerald in a flash. She quickly dodged their attack and used Psychic. Her power hit one of the Absols but it didn't seem bothered. It only made it more angry. The second Absol runs to her in a tackle, towards Emerald. She cried out in pain as she was sent reeling backwards, the pain feeling more than from a normal tackle... super luck it must be...

"Finish her!" The leader roared.

But before the two Absols can make another move, a dark shadow jumped in front of Emerald who crouched on the ground in pain.

"Leave her alone!" Silas growled. Electricity sparked in his tail and he surged forward leaving a trail of static at his paws.

One Absol started to run up again, but Silas dodged it easily. In return, he counterattacks, gaining a startled cry from the Pokemon. The second Absol lunges forward, aiming his teeth for Silas's throat but misses as the Shinx sidesteps out of the way. The Absol instead trips and faceplants the concrete.

"You fools!" Their leader howled, "You're no better than a pup! Get back over here! I don't want to waste anymore energy on these runts."

The two Absols reluctantly obeyed and stalked after their leader who fled within the shadows once more.

Emerald stared at where the three Absols disappeared to. Her heart pumped violently inside her chest that she was sure it would explode in fear. Silas still stood in front of her protectively. His blue and black body covered in dust and a few scratches.

"Are you alright?" He turned around and asked. Worry clouded his eyes.

"Yeah, I'm fine," She lied as she slowly got up from the ground but her body ached with pain and she fell down with a grunt.

"Hey, easy there," Silas quickly supported her fall with his shoulder and helped her back up on her paws, "Come on, let's go home."

The whole way back, he stayed at her side whispering words of encouragement in her ears. Too weak to respond, Emerald nodded slightly whenever he would talk to her.

"Why... Why come back and save me?" She said hoarsely.

"It's my job, remember?" He replied, giving a small grin.

Emerald shook her head, "I was so mean to you before... I figured you left because I made you angry. I'm so sorry."

The Shinx chuckled, "It's alright. I just needed sometime to think that's all. Plus, I smelled an unfamiliar scent around the streets and I started to track it. Eventually the scent led back to where I left you and that's when I found out you were being attacked."

"Stupid Absols," She growled, "The next time I see one cross our territory, I will be ready to take them down."

Silas smirked, "I'm sure you will."

Emerald smiled to herself. It was nice having someone to talk to. It's been a while she's been this close to anyone. Especially Silas.

"Hey... Silas?"

"Yes, m'lady?"

"Whoa," She felt taken back. "Since when have you started calling me that?"

"Well. I figured I should start showing respect to you since I am your personal guard and all."

She let out an exasperated sigh, "Fine. But if it's just us, drop the act and call me by my name, alright?"

"Of course m'la-, I mean, Emerald," He blushed in embarrassment, "Now, what were you going to tell me?"

She took a deep breath and said the two words she thought she'd never hear herself say, "Thank you. I mean it... Thank you for everything. Really."

Silas looked in her purple eyes and smiled, "Your welcome."

Emerald felt herself begin to warm up inside. She tried to turn away but she couldn't. She still stared into his electric gaze and felt as if she could look in them forever.

"Alright now, we better get moving or your face might be glued like that for a while." Silas laughed.

Confused, Emerald realized she's been smiling the whole time. Embarrassed she looked away and kept walking. Well limping, with Silas's help.

And from that moment on, a new friendship blossomed between the two Pokemon. At first they hated and despised each other for four years. But all that changed and Emerald was able to give Silas her full trust and finally accepted him to become her personal guard.

---End!---

*Ahem* Clearly, by the length of this chapter, I, Darkness-Blaze, have written this, instead of mariexhood. Now cont- *whack* hey! Hey! I was just leavi-

*whack* *whipmers* *Grabs bowl of pineapples and leaves to 'work' on stories with writer's block* (and yes I do love me some pineapples).

Huh, he just grabbed the whole bowl of... Oh well nevermind! Hey guys! It's mariexhood here, and clearly I have written ALL this. It's crazy I know, I don't usually write this long of a story haha. Darkness-Blaze's habit of writing long chapters is rubbing off on me xD (not *whisper another pineapple bowl*- Blaze). (*Hands one over but takes a slice*)

Though I do want to thank him for making such great edits and checking correct punctuation and commas where they need to be (Yes, I lack that habit of checking my work... Sometimes... Alright, most of the times) (it was painful to correct- Blaze) (Thanks I try)

I actually came up with the whole idea of the story but Darkness-Blaze really contributed into creating all this. I mean seriously... HE ALREADY WROTE FIVE CHAPTERS OF THE STORY!!! (not really, more of intro chaps, too short by my standards- Blaze)

So I guess it's right to give him most of the credit (ALL OF IT) and give me like 20% (MLP reference) of the credit for writing this origin and creating the covers.

Hear that Darkness-Blaze? I just complimented you and gave you so much praise xP He's probably in the other room eating pineapples...

By the way, I'm not the only one writing out our conversation. He is actually typing it too since I have this page shared on Google docs. So yup that's how we were able to collaborate and stuff.

(which allows me to do more 'edits' even after she's done with all this hahahhaha, welp time to be favoring the Dark types as they are my favorites- Blaze)

Pshhh we all know Psychics rule xD Just kidding!.... Maybe... meeeeep!

Anyways thanks guys! Hope you all enjoyed reading this sneak peek of the actual official story that will be posted on Darkness-Blaze's account. Again it is called, "Pokemon: Divided Unity"

Happy Reading!
