ONE-SHOT REQUEST PART 3

Hey guys. I'm back yet again for another one-shot. So I basically requested this myself haha... I'm so lonely...

Anywhoo! This is about one of my TOP OTPS!! Captain America and Black Widow!  Or Steve and Natasha, either way.

Enjoy!!

"Natasha wait!"

The red headed spy stopped in her tracks and turned around. Her short curls covered her face as she looked up to see the American soldier running towards her. She glanced away, covering up her feelings she once felt towards the blonde haired man.

Once Steve caught up to her, she walked away again, pulling the strap of her backpack unknowingly, "Go away, Rogers."

"No, I won't." He said firmly. The tone in his voice made Natasha pause in her steps but she didn't turn around this time, "I won't let you go on this mission alone. It's too dangerous."

"Then you obviously don't know me." She snapped, instantly regretting her retort. She sighed and shook her head, "You can't stop me, Steve. You know that."

"But I can come with you." He insisted, his voice full of pain and hope which made Natasha squeeze her eyes shut. She can't let herself feel. She needs to move on without anything holding her back.

"You and I both know that's not possible." She finally said, "We all went our separate ways and this is my path that I need to take."

"To do what?" Steve asked sharply, "Go into hiding again? Find another psychotic victim to assassinate? Nat, I know you. And I know this isn't what you want."

"You're right this isn't what I want." Natasha turned to look up and stared at him straight in the eye, "It's what I need."

"A distraction?" He said in disbelief.

"A purpose." She amended, "I've been living in a child's fairytale, Steve, I helped saved the world three times. I battled robots, killed off alien armies, helped find your best friend, and all for what? Honor? Respect? Friendship?"

"I though it was because of me." He whispered quietly. Natasha's eyes widened at what he said. His blue eyes now clouded with an emotion she once felt herself.

Heartbreak.

Natasha opened her mouth to respond but slowly closed it shut. She didn't know what to say. Hell, she didn't even know how to feel anymore. She was supposed to be an emotionless spy. An assassin. She didn't have time to deal with simple feelings of love and acceptance. And yet, that's what she longed for all this time.

"You once said that you trusted me with your life." She finally spoke when she found the courage to say something, "I also trusted you with mine." Natasha took a step towards Steve who stood in front of her, his gaze glued to the floor. "And believe me, I didn't want this to happen. It's not my choice. I'm just following orders and my orders are to go on this mission. I'm trying to protect you by leaving. It's not safe for me here anymore."

"It won't be safe for you anywhere else. They already know about you. Everyone." Steve said, "Your putting yourself in more danger by leaving."

"At least I can finally do something for a change." Natasha replied, her voice cracking, "Steve I have to go. I need to go. And you have to know.." her voice faltered but she quickly recovered, "You have to know that you can't follow me. We can't see each other anymore. We can't even know each other anymore."

"You can't do that." Steve protested, "Nat, what you're saying right now will be the death of me. I cannot do that. This is killing me much more than having injuries in war." He grabbed her shoulders and squeezed them slightly, "Can't you see how this is hurting me?"

She forced herself to give him a cold stare but failed miserably when she stared into his crystal, blue eyes. They didn't have the same fire it used to have when she was fighting alongside him. They didn't sparkle like they did when  she kissed him on the escalator on one of their missions. No. They were dark and clouded with grief like the sky on a stormy day. She could see the rain pouring down on his beaten heart as he stared intently at her.

"You shouldn't be hurting." Natasha said through gritted teeth, "I should be hurting. I should be broken and numb, not you Steve. I don't see why you should feel this way towards me. I'm nothing but a double agent, trained all her life to fight, kill, and avenge. Nothing will be the same again. You can't be there for me anymore. You can't accompany on dangerous missions anymore. And you can't hold me anymore like what you're doing now." She gestured to his strong grip on her shoulders.

"If that is what you want." He said slowly and softly, "Then let me hold you, just this once."

Before Natasha could reply, Steve brought her towards him, closing the gap between them. He wrapped his strong, built arms around her lean petite body and pressed her against his chest. Steve then laid his head in the crook of her neck.

She felt cold liquid touch her skin and she realized that he was crying. Cold, long tears were being poured on her shoulder. She never realized he felt this way. She never even knew that he felt something towards her. Without knowing, a tear slipped out of her left eye and Natasha found herself sobbing on the soldiers chest. Her breath came in short, messy hiccups as she curled her hands around Steve's neck.

She didn't want to leave anymore. She couldn't. Not now. Not ever.

Steve started massaging her back and shushed her gently. He stoped crying and was now comforting the red headed spy who shook violently against him in despair. Natasha slowly calmed down and took in deep breaths then wiped her tears which were cold against her face. She had cried so much like that in a while and she was able to release all the pain and suffering she kept inside all these years.

"I'm not going." She said hoarsly, her voice sounded raspy from crying, "I can't go. It's your fault you stupid super soldier."

Steve laughed and held her tightly. He cradled her in his arms and swayed her back and forth, "I can live with that."

Natasha dropped her backpack on the ground and full on embraced her best friend and lover. She loved him. She had always knew that, somehow.

"The Soldier and the Spy." Steve breathed in her short, red curls, "What a dangerous scandal."

"Now this is a mission I can forever follow... with you by my side." Natasha whispered.
