MY PURPOSE - JOHN B ROUTLEDGE

CHAPTER TWELVE - OLIVIA REDFIELD

"So, how's school been going John?" Leon asked the boy as the three sat at the kitchen table eating Leon's infamous spaghetti bolognese.

"Good. Yeah, it's going really well" John B lied.

Leon nodded, putting his fork down and grabbing his glass of water "Eli's been homeschooled most her life but soon as summers over, she'll be going to Kildare same as you so maybe you guys will be in the same classes"

"I hope not, I can't even stand him for a day" Eleanor joked as she smiled at John B but the boy didn't smile back like he usually does, he was sorta just staring into space.

"Hey, John B, you good?"

"The cemetery" The Routledge boy whispered and the girl beside him furrowed her eyebrows in confusion.

"The what?"

John B snapped out of his daze as he saw the concerned faces of Leon and Eleanor staring at him "I'm really sorry Mr-sorry Leon" He corrected "But I have to go. Thank you so much for the food it was great" And that was it before the boy rushed out the house.

"I'll be right back" Eleanor told Leon before she too rushed out after the boy "John B, what the hell was that? What's going on?"

"Do you know when I thought Redfield was a place?"

Eleanor nodded slowly "Yeah, but were are you going with this?"

"Well it wasn't a place Eleanor, it's a person and the clue is at the cemetery I know it so you in?"

The girl sighed, looking between the house and John B "What do we have to lose right?"

"Now that's the spirit" Eleanor shouted a quick goodbye to Leon because she knew if she went back inside, she probably wouldn't be coming back out.

"Eleanor! Eli don't you dare-" But Leon wasn't quick enough as he watched the Twinkie speed off down the road "Fuck"

-----

"You mind if I just relax on this one?" JJ asked from the back of the Twinkie after the two had picked up the rest of the pogues "It's been a long day, and a lot of weird stuff's gone down. I'm just gonna lay low, oh did you want a hit of this?"

"I keep the signal clear" Pope held up his hand denying the joint from the blue eyed boy.

"Dude, okay. Do you understand that your problem is that you don't get creative? If you get creative, then-"

"Look, I-I know I was wrong about the lighthouse, all right?" John B interrupted JJ for pointing out Pope's apparent lack of 'creativity' and back to the plan at hand.

"And pretty much everything else" Eleanor added on with a sarcastic smile.

"Yep, thank you for that El but, I was right about one thing. Okay? My dad is trying to tell me something" After that, the whole car ride was silent and it wasn't until John B spoke up to say they were here.

"Come on, hey, come on" John B rushed everyone as they quietly climbed over the large iron gate that led into the graveyard.

"I'm coming" Kiara said as she was the last one to climb the fence "This place is scary. John B, what are we doing?"

"So you know how you're trying to remember a song but can't remember who sings it?" John B said, walking backwards, with a lantern in his hand, so he could still talk to his friends.

"Yeah"

"So, Redfield. This whole time, I thought it was a place, right? But it's not a place. It's a person" The boy finished when they reached a very large gravestone with the name Olivia Redfield engraved on it.

JJ looked at it in awe "Voi-effing-la"

"See" John B pointed out because he knew he was right this whole time "It's my great-great-grandmother Olivia Redfield. That was her maiden name"

Staring at the door for a couple minutes before John B got into action "Help me with this door. Come on"

"All right" Eleanor and Pope stepped forward before everyone else followed as they all got a firm grip on the door before starting to push "Are you pushing?" Pope asked in between breaths because no matter how much strength they used, the door wasn't budging.

"What does it look we're doing?" Pope glared at Eleanor as they tried to push the stone door again but it still wouldn't move.

"This door is like seven hundred pounds. It's not gonna budge" Pope said what everyone else was thinking.

"Can we go then?" Eleanor asked, looking around at the dimly lit cemetery "Because my goosebumps are getting goosebumps"

"Come on guys, we didn't come this far to get this far, all right? We got this" JJ said, adamantly.

"Why You afraid of the dark, Toretto?" John B teased as the girl lightly shoved him.

"Shut up JB, I'm not scared of the dark I'm just being cautious that's all" Eleanor defended before JJ suddenly leaped back with a yell causing the girl to fall back into John B.

"JJ!" Eleanor scolded, quickly apologising to John B before looking over at the blonde boy "What are you doing?"

"Don't you see the fucking snake? Okay, that's a moccasin, all right?" JJ exclaimed, pointing to the snake that was slithering on the grass.

"Oh shit" Eleanor cursed, her too moving back when JJ decided to bark at the snakes "You've got to be shitting me right now. JJ shut up!"

"JJ! Shut up!" Kiara quietly yelled but the boy continued to bark at the snake.

"You're gonna wake the freakin' dead, man" Pope told him.

"They're afraid of dogs. Everyone knows that, man" JJ then stopped for a second "Wait, hold on?"

"What?" John B and Eleanor said at the same time.

"If there's one, there's probably dozens"

"What?" Pope exclaimed.

"All around" JJ continued.

"Stop" Kiara begged "You're scaring me"

"JJ. Stop barking at the snakes!" John B pushed the blonde boy back a few steps.

"Look, John-" Pope started but he got cut off by JJ.

"Just making sure it's clear-"

"Shut up" Pope snapped at JJ before looking over at his best friend "We're not gonna get in there, all right? It's not budging. We should probably just go"

Eleanor sighed "I can get through"

"What? No, no, no, no. You think you're gonna fit through that tiny little gap?" JJ asked in disbelief.

"You saying i'm fat?" Eleanor asked, she smirked when JJ started to ramble on about how he didn't mean it like that "JJ when you're in a hole, stop digging. But seriously John B, I can get through and you deserve to know the truth about your dad so I'll do it"

"Come on, I'll get those" JJ and Pope grabbed the branches that were scattered over the hole in the stone to get them out Eleanor's way.

"Just be careful, okay, if you don't wanna do this then that's fine. I totally don't mind going in" The Routledge boy reassured the girl.

"John B" Eleanor stopped his rambling and put her hands on his arms "Just remind me what I'm looking for"

John B sighed knowing he wasn't going to win their little argument "You'll know when you see it"

Eleanor nodded "Got it" Walking over to the gap as JJ crouched down against the stone with his hands on top of each other so the girl could put her foot there.

"I'm gonna give you a boost, all right. I've seen it in the movies several times. Ready?"

"Thank you JJ but I got it don't worry" And Eleanor was in fact right as she managed to pull herself up and into the hole "Flashlight please" Eleanor asked when she was finally inside the tomb.

"Yeah, here" Pope handed her as she thanked the boy before looking around at the walls.

"You alive? You got, like, a-a heartbeat and everything?" John B asked.

"So far"

"That's good, that's good. You see anything?" He asked, hopefully.

"No, I need some more light" So John B passed her his torch and Eleanor looked around the tomb again and that's when she saw something "Holy shit"

"What? Did you find something?" JJ quickly asked "Is there gold?"

It wasn't gold that Eleanor had found in one of the many dust gaps in the wall but what she did find was a Fedex letter that was unopened and when she pulled it out, there was some wording on it in bold black letters saying 'Bird'.

"John B I think this is for you" Eleanor stuck her arm out to hand the envelope to him before then handing the torch and lantern to Pope before she jumped back out the hole. Glad that her feet were back on solid ground.

"That's not gold" Pope muttered, disappointedly.

"No, but this is from my dad" John B said in disbelief as he saw the word 'Bird' written on the front of the envelope meaning his dad was leaving him clues like he said.

The pogues looked at the boy in disbelief "You were actually right I-" JJ started before the sound of a vehicle approaching made the teenagers go quiet "Code red, code red. Square groupers! Square groupers!"

"Go, go!" Kiara quietly yelled at the group as they ran towards the exit of the graveyard before ducking behind a large stone wall.

"It's the guys who robbed your house" JJ said to John B in between pants from the running and the smoke that he had inhaled before the vehicle had shown up.

"Light, light!" Pope told John B urgently at the boys flashlight that was still shining brightly.

"Turn your light off, man!" JJ snapped. In the end John B ended up shoving the flashlight underneath his shirt because he was that stressed that he couldn't find the button to turn it off.

"Do you think it's them?" Kiara asked JJ who had informed everyone that the vehicle was a golf cart.

"Homie's got a gun" JJ ignored Kie's question as he turned his head back to the group.

"Well I'm not planning on shooting anyone in the shoulder tonight so let's move" Eleanor said, getting ready to make a run for it.

JJ frowned "What?"

"She means run idiot" Kiara snapped before the two girls ran towards the iron gate, the boys following quickly behind them.

"No need for the name calling Kie!" JJ snapped back at the curly haired girl as he climbed over the gate after Eleanor.

"Guys, wait, I'm stuck!" Pope yelled causing to JJ, Kiara and Eleanor to stop in their tracks.

"Shit"

"Pope, don't move okay?" Eleanor looked back at the blonde only to see him pointing a gun at were Pope's shorts were stuck on the gate.

"JJ, don't be stupid!" The girl scolded him and went to help Kiara with getting Pope down "Don't worry Pope, we got you"

"Wait you're gonna rip me! You're gonna rip me" He yelled at the two girls and that's when Pope somehow landed back on his feet but his shorts where still stuck on the gate, leaving the boy only in his boxers.

"Pope, come on!" John B called from the van as he tried not to laugh but failed miserably.

"Nice! Come on, dude. It's a little tootsie roll" JJ chuckled as did the rest of Pogues before they all got into the Twinkie and drove away as quickly as possible.

Eleanor looked over at the boy in the drivers seat as she tucked a piece of hair behind her ear "I hope this was all worth it John B, I really do"
