CHAPTER 68

Taehyung sat on the floor, his head resting against the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling. He was exhausted, drained by the relentless challenges life had thrown at him. Every time he tried to find happiness, something terrible happened, tearing away his loved ones.
After escaping with Y/N, he had hoped for a peaceful life, free from trouble. But now, here he was, shattered once again. He had dreamed of starting a new family with the love of his life, but those dreams were now in ruins, leaving him feeling more broken than ever.
He took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. He was weary of this life, feeling like giving up. But no, he couldn't. He needed to find Y/N, to hold her close and feel alive once more.
The thought of her made his heart ache, tears threatening to spill. But he knew he couldn't be weak now. He had to be stronger than ever. For her. For Y/N.
He sighed again and again, not knowing what he should do now. He tried to leave the chamber, but it was so badly ruined, and their strong security prevented him from doing anything. Only he knew how much he had tried to escape from here. But there had been no positive results. Yet, he continued to try. He didn't care about his own life, but for her, he would do everything to hold her in his embrace.
Suddenly, he heard knocking on the door. Weakly, he turned his head towards the door from where someone knocked continuously.
With a sigh, he turned his head back, ignoring the sound. The knocking eventually stopped, and the door creaked open, but he remained focused on the empty space before him.
"Your Majesty..." An unfamiliar voice called out to him, causing him to turn his head again towards the figure standing there, still bowed. He rolled his eyes, recognizing yet another Ulsan soldier.
Silently, he waited for the soldier to speak. The soldier slowly lifted his head and met Taehyung's gaze, noting the lack of response.
"Your Majesty, I need to tell you something," the soldier said, causing Taehyung to furrow his brow. What could this Ulsan soldier want with him? Curiosity piqued, he nodded, remaining seated.
"A-Actually majesty ,I'm not an Ulsan soldier." He cleared his throat and again spoke.
"I'm Kim Namjoon," he said, his voice steady.
"A secret Commander of daegu kingdom. Your father ,I mean the king knows me well. I'm like a right hand to him," the soldier uttered confidently, leaving Taehyung dumbfounded.
Taehyung looked closely at the man's face, narrowing his eyes as he tried to remember. He didn't recognize him at all. Maybe he had missed seeing him before, but he wasn't sure if he could trust him. Doubt filled his mind, and he shifted uncomfortably.
"I've never seen you," Taehyung said, eyeing him with curiosity. The soldier chuckled showing his dimple and nodded in agreement.
"Yes, Your Majesty, maybe you haven't. I'm not always at the kingdom. I often travel for royal duties. But I've seen you every time I'm in the palace," he said softly. Taehyung nodded slightly, still wary.
"B-But how can I trust you?" Taehyung asked, eyeing the man in Ulsan soldier attire with suspicion.
The soldier nodded and sighed deeply.
"I’ve already explained my position in this kingdom. As for why I'm dressed in Ulsan attire, it’s because I need to blend in and gather information from within their ranks. It’s a necessary part of my mission. But don't worry, Your Majesty. I’ll do everything in my power to keep you safe. You are our future king, and I’m here to protect you."
He took a badge from his pocket and held it up in front of Taehyung, hoping to dispel any doubts. He didn't want their future king to view him with suspicion. He was here to protect the Daegu kingdom, and he needed to prove it.
"Your Majesty," he said, his voice steady but urgent, "I’m here to protect Daegu. This badge is proof of my loyalty and dedication to our kingdom."
Taehyung studied the badge and then looked into the soldier's eyes. For a moment, the room was silent, the air thick with tension.
After a moment that felt like an eternity, Taehyung slowly nodded. "Alright," he said, his voice firm. "But know this,if you betray us, I will not hesitate to act."
Namjoon offered a reassuring dimpled smile and bowed deeply, showing respect and loyalty. Taehyung studied him for a few moments, the tension in his shoulders easing slightly. Though uncertainty still lingered, having someone dedicated to helping him was a small comfort.
"Hmm.Then Do you know what happened to my father and Jin Hyung?" Taehyung asked, his voice filled with growing concern. His hands clenching into fists at his sides. He had no clue about their whereabouts and desperately wanted to meet them. The uncertainty gnawed at him, fueling his curiosity.
At Taehyung's question, the soldier's face paled. He seemed to be struggling to find the right words. His eyes darted around the room as he realized he had to reveal everything. Taehyung deserved to know the truth about his family.
"The king is no more. They killed him," Namjoon said, his voice trembling with the weight of the memory. "They suddenly attacked our kingdom and breached the palace. We fought bravely, but during the chaos, they killed His Majesty." Namjoon’s eyes glazed over as he recalled the miserable failure to protect the kingdom.
Taehyung's eyes widened in shock. He didn’t know if he should believe what he had just heard. Slowly, he stood up from the floor, using the side of the bed for support. Namjoon moved towards him, intending to help, but Taehyung raised his hand to stop him. He could see the confusion, sadness, anger, and guilt etched on Taehyung's face.
Taehyung stared blankly into space, trying to understand the news he had just received. He and his father had never had a good relationship; they were distant and often argued. Still, the news of his father’s death hit him hard, feeling like a heavy weight on his heart.
He slowly raised his head and looked at the soldier. "T-then what happened to Jin Hyung?" Taehyung asked, his voice barely a whisper but loud enough for the namjoon to hear.
"He escaped successfully, Your Majesty. But we don't know where he went. The Ulsans are trying to find him," He said, watching as Taehyung nodded slowly. At least knowing Jin was safe lightened the burden on his heavy heart.
"T-There’s someone else I need to know about. Can you find out about her?" Taehyung said, his voice soft but firm.
Namjoon straightened, nodding. "Her? Are you referring to our future queen, Y/N?"
Upon hearing her name, Taehyung’s eyes widened in shock. He took a quick, determined step toward Namjoon, his face showing his urgent concern. He grabbed Namjoon’s shoulder tightly, his fingers digging into his clothing.
His eyes were wide and desperate as he stared at Namjoon. "How do you know her?" he asked, his voice shaking with hope and worry. His other hand was clenched into a fist, struggling to control the emotions swirling inside him.
Namjoon took a deep breath. "I know everything, Your Majesty. I’ll tell you, but you mustn’t do anything that could make this situation worse."
Taehyung nodded, his throat tight with anxiety. He was desperate to learn about the woman he missed so dearly.
"They’ve imprisoned her here, in our kingdom’s prison section," Namjoon began, his voice heavy with regret. Taehyung’s heart raced at the thought that Y/N had been so close all this time, yet he had been unaware of her suffering.
"She’s been tortured every day," Namjoon continued, his tone pained. "Especially by Princess Hana. They’ve starved her and treated her like an animal."
Taehyung’s grip on Namjoon’s shoulder loosened as he took a step back. His face turned a deep shade of red with rage. He clenched his fists at his sides, his knuckles turning white. His jaw tightened, and he ground his teeth together. His eyes blazed with a mix of pain and fury. He took deep, ragged breaths, his body trembling slightly as he tried to control his anger.
The thought of his love being tortured filled him with even more anger. He had always treated her like his queen, protecting her from any harm. No one had ever dared to touch her, let alone hurt her. But now, those cruel people had turned her life into a living nightmare. The pain of knowing she was suffering like this made his rage burn hotter, and he felt powerless and heartbroken.
"I want to see her right now," Taehyung demanded, his deep, husky voice filled with a dark intensity that made Namjoon gulp.
"B-but this isn't the best time, Your Majesty. Please try to understand," Namjoon said, bowing slightly in an attempt to calm him.
"WHAT... WHAT RIGHT TIME, NAMJOON? SHE’S SUFFERING THERE, AND YOU WANT ME TO WAIT FOR THE RIGHT TIME? DAMN YOU ALL!" Taehyung shouted, his voice filled with raw anger and pain. His scream echoed through the room, showing how much he was hurting.
Namjoon sighed deeply, realizing he had to calm Taehyung down. "I know you’re angry, Your Majesty. But rushing in without a plan could put both her and you in danger. We need to be careful and make sure everything is safe."
Taehyung breathed heavily, his face red with anger. He clenched his fists so tight that his nails dug into his palms. The thought of her suffering while he had to wait was almost too much to bear, but he knew, deep down, that Namjoon was right. He fought to control his emotions, his body shaking with the effort.
"Fine," Taehyung said through gritted teeth, his voice quivering with frustration.
"But I want to see her as soon as possible," Taehyung said, his voice steady and serious. "Tell me the right time, and I will meet her. But until then, you must take care of her. This isn’t just advice—it's a command."
His words were sharp and authoritative, making Namjoon bow deeply in respect. "I will, Your Majesty."
Taehyung’s gaze was intense, his eyes locked onto Namjoon’s as he tried to convey the depth of his command. "Make sure she’s safe and well cared for. I expect nothing less."
Namjoon nodded solemnly. "I understand, Your Majesty. I will ensure her safety and well-being."
As Namjoon left to carry out his orders, Taehyung remained in the room, his jaw set with determination. His heart ached with the weight of his love and the urgency of the situation, but he knew that careful planning was the only way to protect her and ensure her safety.
__
At midnight, the palace was cloaked in darkness, illuminated only by a few flickering oil lamps that made it easier to navigate the paths.
Namjoon moved silently toward the prison area, careful not to make a sound. If he were caught, it wouldn’t be a major issue, as everyone believed he was an Ulsan soldier. His bravery and intelligence had served him well in handling such situations.
As he entered the prison area, he scanned the surroundings. Some soldiers were asleep, others were on the verge of sleep, and a few were chatting casually, seemingly indifferent to their environment. This made it easier for him to move toward his destination.
Just as he was about to take another step, he heard footsteps approaching. Instinctively, he ducked behind a nearby wall and peeked around the corner. He saw the Queen of Ulsan and Princess Hana leaving the prison section with a group of soldiers. They were likely move away from Y/N’s cell, After making her condition worsened.
Namjoon took a deep breath and quietly made his way toward Y/N’s cell. His heart ached as he saw her curled up into a ball on the cold floor. Seeing Y/N, the future queen of his kingdom, in such a pitiful state filled him with profound sadness.
He stared at her fragile form, remembering what His Majesty had said. He knew he had to act quickly; otherwise, they might kill her with their torture.
He carefully pulled the keys from his belt, making sure not to jingle them, and unlocked the door with a practiced hand. With a gentle push, he eased it open and slipped inside, taking a moment to let his eyes adjust to the dim light.
Namjoon picked up the oil lamp and carefully walked toward Y/N, who lay unconscious on the cold floor. He brought the lamp closer to her, revealing the full extent of her injuries. His eyes widened in horror as he saw her body covered in bruises, some still fresh and oozing blood. Her face was pale, showing just how weak and battered she was.
Namjoon’s eyes then fell to Y/N’s clothes. He saw a large pool of blood spreading beneath her, and his heart dropped. His gaze went to her lower abdomen, where the blood was coming from—a serious injury that was flowing down her leg. The sight made him gasp and feel sick.
Without thinking, Namjoon turned and ran. He needed to get help right away. He hurried out of the prison area, his heart racing as he ran through the dark hallways, desperate to find someone who could save Y/N from her suffering.
He had no choice but to head to the Royal Medical Household to find a doctor. Though they were also from Ulsan, he couldn't take any risks with Y/N’s life. Desperate, he threatened one of the lady doctors to force her cooperation.
As they made their way to Y/N's cell, Namjoon stayed alert, ensuring that no one saw them. The dark hallways were quiet, the only sound being their hurried footsteps.
When they arrived at the cell, He drew his sword and held it near the lady doctor’s neck, his expression cold and menacing.
"Make sure you treat her properly,"he ordered, his voice low and dangerous. "Don’t hide anything from me about her condition. And keep your mouth shut ,if anyone finds out about this, you won’t see the light of day. Understand?"
The lady doctor swallowed hard, her eyes wide with fear, and nodded quickly. She knew better than to challenge Namjoon.
“Good. Now, get to work,” Namjoon commanded.
The doctor moved cautiously toward Y/N's unconscious form. She began by cleaning each wound gently, applying medicine with practiced hands. Her movements were careful, yet swift, as she examined every part of Y/N’s body with her medical tools. He watched intently, his expression a mixture of worry and determination about their future queen.
After examining Y/N, the lady doctor turned to Namjoon, who raised an eyebrow, waiting for her report.
"Everything is okay. You don’t have to worry,but-" she said, but her voice faltered as she glanced back at Y/N’s fragile body. She sighed deeply.
"But—what?" He whispered urgently.
"She needs extra care now," the doctor continued, her gaze softening with concern. "You must ensure she stays as healthy as possible. I’ll provide the medicine she needs, and you must administer it on time. She also requires healthy food. It’s crucial for both her and the baby."
Namjoon nodded, listening intently to her instructions.
"Baby?"he asked, his eyes shifting to Y/N, who lay unaware of the conversation happening around her.
“Yes, she’s pregnant.”
