"T'is better to have loved and lost than to not have loved at all" -Alfred Lord Tennyson
Odettes POV-
The whiff of fruity scones and bitter coffee tantalized my senses as I followed the aroma to the kitchen to receive his highness's breakfast tray. It has only been three days yet my life is completely hectic, Lady Williams is going to Italy soon and all the servants and I have been working breathlessly to prepare her for her trip.
To make matters worse after what happened with Luke he has been avoiding me and even sending me quite glares. Even Sabastains in a pissy mood, the poor chap has been working and studying for hours each day barely eating or sleeping, so as the head maid and caretaker of his highness I have had to take care of him, hand and foot. It seems my life never ceases to fall apart.
"Thank you," Grabbing the plate of strawberry scones and his highness's coffee cup I made my way from the kitchen back to Sebastian's chambers.
*KNOCK KNOCK*
"Come in," A gruff voice ordered, upon entering I gasped as I noticed the state of his room, his clothes seem to border his room while his sheets are all wrinkled and disheveled and not to mention the bin is overflowing with scraps of paper.
"Damn it, Odette! how many times have I told you that I hate sweet foods in the morning," He grunted as he glared at the heaping helping of fluffy scones that seemed to be dipped in sugar. Oh, dear.
"I apologize, your highness but you know that your mother insists on it she says-"
"Do I look like a child Odette? Bloody hell there's a strawberry smiley face for god's sake," He ruffled his hands through his hair as he yanked the plate from my hold shoving me forward. I sighed as I brushed myself off and waited for his inevitable lecture.
"No, your highness you don't, but your mother is queen and her power overweighs yours so I can not disobey her without consequence," bowing my head I waited patiently for the rest of his nasty words, I gasped as he tapped my shoulder lightly bringing my head back up to face his.
"Uh, I am not in the mood for such formalities please just call me by my first name," he turned away and quickly began his work without sparing me another glance.
"Yes, you- Sebastian," Sighing I stepped over to his bed and plopped on top of it sitting 'ever so gracefully'.
"Odette?"
"Yes, Sebastian."
"Have you eaten?" he quizzed, finally turning to face me.
"No, no I haven't had the chance to," I spoke a bit off guard from the softness of his voice.
"Than please have one of my scones, I have plenty and I don't wish to see you faint," he shoved the silver tray towards me kindly offering one of the many fluffy pastries. Taking a large bite of the yummy pastry completely dusting myself in sugar powder.
"Oh dear, I guess I should be a little more careful," I giggled while chewing happily, suddenly I felt the warmth of a handkerchief dust my face taking off the sweet powder. Sebastian gazed at me nonchalantly as he wiped my face gently. My heart skipping every beat as each second went by.
"Thank-" he yanked his hand back as he seemed to notice the bright pinkish hue that resided on my cheeks. Oh, how embarrassing.
"Odette can you please tell me what I am doing for the day," he cleared his throat as he began to write once again.
"Of course," I yanked a tiny agenda from the hidden pocket in my dress, turning to today's date I began to read aloud.
"Well, you have to answer some letters sent to you by count Vincent and after that, you have a meeting with the Chinese ambassador and after all that you have to have dinner with your famil-"
"I can't make t so take it off," he deadpanned, still writing vigorously.
"Um, Sebastian you understand that these family dinners are very important and -"
"I said take it off, and when dinner does roll around I want you to inform my family of my absence then come back to my room with something for me to eat ."
"Well if you insist but may I ask the reason."
"It's none of your concern," he gritted.
"Sebastian, what will I tell your parents if you refuse to give me a reason," he slammed his hands against the desk and turned towards me, his eyes resembling hatred and self-loathing.
"Why do you insist on knowing everything?" he grunted.
"Why do you 'insist' on me not knowing?" he glared at me for half a second before he shoved a crinkly old paper in my face. Oh, the daily paper! Yanking it from his hands I held it and began to read out loud.
"Is our crowned prince not loved by his people? Is he not fit for the throne?"
"Rinia our lovely country, our pride and life force has been under the rule of king Carson, Frederick the third, under his rule we have found prosperity and balance! Are we ready to give it up so soon? To some prince who has barely any accomplishments?-"
"Just read what they said," he huffed. Skimming down the lengthy writing I read the people's thoughts.
"Well I for one think that he cant rule and I hope he doesn't, I mean he went abroad for only four years and came back with not one accomplishment,"
"Oh and shan't we forget that he isn't even married. I mean how long does it take him to wed it took his father about a month! It's been two years and he has barely caught a fiance not to mention that he doesn't seem to care as much as his father does I truly don't wish to not see him on the throne-"
"Enough! Sebastian, you don't believe this do you?" I yelled.
"Of course I believe it. Why else have I been working so much, I need to prove my worth to them," he sighed his eyes gleaming with unspoken tears.
"Sabastian! You have done nothing but good for these people; how could you let them walk all over you."
"'To some prince who has barely any accomplishments?' Hah, do they know how many you have in your whole rooms-" he banged his pen against the wall and stood up yanking the paper from my hand.
"I have given you enough reason so please do what I told you! Now leave, I need some quiet for my work," he shouted as he glared holes into the back of my head. Huffing I marched out the door slamming it behind me.
"How could he let them say such things?" I huffed passing back and forth recalling the look of sheer sadness that painted his expression.
"I can't bear his sadness! It's killing me knowing he is working himself to the bone trying so hard to impress them," I slouched against the painted wall behind me contemplating. If he is skipping dinner then I guess I will bring 'dinner to him'. I know exactly what to do, don't worry Sebastian I will take away all of your worries I promise. Now all I have to do is wait.
