Chapter Thirty-Six
I couldn't remember much after hearing Leon's voice whispering huskily into my ear as a sweet scent filled my nose. After that, everything went dark for a time. By the time I had come to, I found myself sitting in a chair, groggily trying to open eyes that felt like they had been glued shut. A throbbing headache caused even the quiet shifting of the person beside me to sound loud as I felt a hand gently brush against my cheek.
"Are you finally waking up, Shina? Please try to behave so I don't have to put you under again. I really would rather you be awake so we can start talking about our future together, but if you try to make a scene I'm afraid there will be... consequences... I would much rather be able to enjoy our time together. This is our chance to start over again, something not many couples get you know." Slowly I forced my eyes open, trying not to cry out when I saw Leon's face in front of me.
I sat there quietly, not wanting to be unconscious again and unable to do anything to defend myself if needed. As my vision adjusted to the darkness around us, I noticed the scars that now marked his face, ones that had not been there the last time I saw him. My eyes traced them all, one running along his left jaw in a jagged line as another started just below his right eye like the tracks of a tear flowing down his cheek.
"What..." I began quietly before my voice seemed to catch, the question trapped echoing in my mind.
"The scars? This one" he touched his jaw "was from one of your 'husbands' friends. And this one" he traced down his cheek "was to remind me of how I made you cry. I agree I deserve it, for all the tears I caused you. But let's not forget how many times you've made me cry too, Shina. Oh, but don't worry! I wouldn't dream of scarring your beautiful face." He slowly traced his fingers down my cheeks, ignoring the shiver that ran through me.
"Leon... What happened to Eli?" I softly whispered the one question that was circling in my mind this whole time.
"Oh, I took care of him. With any luck he will be in a coma like I was! But either way, he'll never be able to take you away from me again. You're mine Shina, just like you were meant to be." With those words, his lips were pressed against mine in a harsh, lustful kiss.
His hands wrapped around my wrists as he pulled me against him, one hand finally releasing an arm as his fingers reached up and threaded into my hair, pulling my head back as he tried to deepen the kiss. When I fought him and began trying to get away, he pulled back with a disappointed sigh.
"I see you still don't understand. Maybe once we get to our new home. Don't worry, I'll find us someplace very special to live. We just need to wait until the flight is over. Maybe you should go back to sleep, my love." I felt my thoughts swimming confusedly in my mind as he spoke, but at the last words I began struggling again.
It was a useless fight, that familiar sweet scent filling my nose as I slowly sank back into darkness. I barely heard the sound of a female asking if everything was alright.
"Oh, it's fine. She was just having a bad dream." If only that was the truth.
