Chapter 5 - Periods Part 2
Lyria: The first subtopic was PCOD AND PCOS. So let us discuss this in further detail. *PCOS: Polycystic Overy Syndrome*
*PCOD:Polycystic Overian Disease*
A disease in which cyst or mass of dead cells form around the ovary NOT letting it burst and release follice or Egg.
This is a syndrome or disease of female reproductive organ Ovary. In which its outer layers are covered by hard cyst or dead cell mass. This doesn't allow the follicle or egg to burst out and hiders ovulation
In simple language, if ovulation or egg does not come out it cannot join with sperm and no pregnancy can occur and if egg does not go in uterus no periods occur.
This condition can go from normal to severe.
Miss. Honey Bee(Divi): This will be curable also right akka(sister)?
Lyria:
Yes it is curable. If too late it is hard to cure.
Now to know the cure we need to know how it is caused?
Causes: There can be many conditions in lifestyle that can cause it. But mostly 3 things,
Hormonal imbalance, like you heard in many tales or books, movies... Oh god he is so handsome my ovary gonna burst. This is reference to hormones.. So if hormones are imbalance or at high level(especially male hormone) , it causes this problem.
Obesity or diabetes
Genetics
Inflammation causes or swelling of cells
By one female: Like on que I actually encounter a period problem recently. Idk what to do so I'm telling it here. My period was done exactly a week ago, I never had any difficulties like late period etc but I used to get early period if I was stressed like during exams. So yesterday I had bleeding but it blood was mixed with clear discharge, my body seemed week and I also have bowel problems so do you know anything about this?
Lyria: Normally stress can induce period many times earlier than the normal date. And blood with clear discharge is that period is not started normally yet. Many times this happens.
Another female: I had the blood and discharge come out like 2 weeks after and it happened for 4 days straight
Lyria: Yes. Bcz it was not cleared totally.
Third female: Ummm I normally have irregular periods like sometimes I face periods for too many days...
And I sometimes have delayed periods.
Lyria: That all depends on the schedule we go on daily. Long periods are not uncommon and delayed ones happens when body or hormone gets disturbed.
Fourth female: I had very less flow this time unlike all the times, usually I have a heavy flow during first three-day but this time it didn't happen. I didn't understand and asked my mom, she said it happens
Lyria: Yes, that depends on our schedule and body. If we keep an balanced schedule and healthy body issues happen less.
After cause we come to symptoms. How can you know about it??? Symptoms are:
Basic: Delay in period
Extremely painful period
Continuous pain
Abnormal period, heavy period, very light or spotting period
Weight gain
Patchy skin
Loss of hair
Unwanted hairs
Acne and oily skin(too much)
Severe headache
Blood pressure increase
Body pain
Pcos is not a sexually transmitted disease. Bcz this disease effects the ovary and not other parts like STDs.
Pcod or pcos is not highly dangerous if it is cured just in time.
Through remedies and medical help it can be cured.
Miss. Biryani lover(stupidny): So it can be genetical?
Lyria: Yes. Also can be due to diabetes that many times family and generation suffers.
How do you prevent it?
What is the cure?
Wind: Take good care of our body I guess and healthy diet...
Lyria:
Exercise and yoga
Low carbohydrate diet
Doctor consulted medicines like
Progesterone and estrogen containing medicines
Meditation
Balanced diet
Proper schedule and lifestyle to prevent this.
And last is Surgery.
Mostly doctors will consult birth control medicine and other like metformins, etc.
These are to regulate the period. So any doubt regarding pcos?
We already discussed if periods delay what to do. As for Pregnancy topic it will be in another session.
Tania:
So....
A question many ask
Why men don't get periods?
Men have different reproductive organs and hormones too.
There are 3 hormones responsible for reproductive system functioning:
FSH
LH
ICSH
For women it is FSH and LH
Full forms are:
FSH:Follicle Stimulating hormone
LH:Luteinizing Hormone
ICSH:Iterstitial Cells Stumulating Hormone
Here FSH is responsible for formation of origin of gametes or egg and sperm
While LH is responsible for for development in females, see what FSH does is... From a single cell it helps to form a egg or sperm cell.
While LH here helps in developing of female reproductive system and also regulate period system.
How so?
LH gives progesterone hormone which is also called pregnancy hormone too cuz it helps in period as well as maintaince of pregnancy.
Its because of this hormone we get periods.
Because they are highly secretive cells means they release fluids that causes cells to burst. While estrogen is helpful in making of egg and also developing the breast.
While ICSH in males causes a certain cell to release Androgen or Testosterone and this is male hormone responsible for their reproductive functions and male behavior and character. When a developing baby is in female's womb. It has chance to form any part. But due to genes certain hormones causes them to not develop female system. And THUS MALES DO NOT HAVE PERIODS.
Simple as that whatever gene a baby get from male according to that body develops the part and don't let other parts to develop.
That's all for today. See y'all in the next session.
