Chapter 5

Chapter 5

Harmony was very exhausted and tried to fall asleep, wearing a small black dress for her “nightgown”, when she thought her uncle came into her room. Her head perked up when she thought she heard bedroom door opened. She softly made baby noises as she sat up in her “crib”. When she looked at the doorway, no one was there. The door was still shut. She continued making baby noises as she looked around the room.

It was then she noticed the window was opened, and a small draft was coming in. She looked over at Hailey, who was asleep in her bed. “A..ba..” Harmony tried to wake her sister up through noises. But Hailey didn't wake up.

Harmony made baby noises but it was at the volume where she could wake her up.

But Hailey didn't.

Harmony began crying, but still her sister did not wake up.

“Ssshhh… Don't cry…”

Harmony stopped crying and perked her head up, looking around the room. She made more noises as she looked around. Suddenly, a man had appeared in her room as if he was nothing but thin air.

The man had red shoulder-length hair, pale skin that was the exact same as Harmony's, and his green eyes seemed to glow, but only in daylight you can see a small hint of yellow in them. He wore a brown vest with a white undershirt, and on top of that he wore a dark jacket, with fur lining the collar and small tools attached to his belt, though it was too dark to even see them, and there was no light for a reflection off of the polished tools. In all honesty, he looked like a toy maker.

“Now, now sweetheart, wipe all those tears away.” The man said to her as he reached into the crib, one hand behind his back, though no one else knew if he had something back there. “We wouldn't want your pretty face to be ruined now, would we?”

Harmony rubbed her eyes and looked up at him. He had a calm smile, and his eyes showed a hint of kindness, but also curiosity and malicious intent. But his skin on his hands and half his arms was dark and maybe even slightly rotten. One thing that anyone could see were his white claws.

Harmony was too oblivious to notice the claws, but grabbed two of his fingers. “Ah, you're a good girl.. young, for sure. But still, you know how to be nice to gentlemen.”

Harmony made soft baby noises and tried reaching for the soft-looking fur on his coat. The man then pulled away and brought out his other hand, and in that said hand, was a stuffed rabbit. One side was black with a red button eye and it looked clean and happy, the other half however was a more gloomy, grey color, with another red button and noticeable stitching where the fabric might have torn a little bit.

Harmony's eyes widened in awe at the stuffed animal and reached out to it. The man handed her the stuffed doll and watched her cuddle with it. She giggled as she began playing with it. It was then Hailey finally woke up.

“Harmony.. what are you giggling about?” Hailey asked as she looked at her baby sister, not seeing the man in the room at all, but clearly seeing the stuffed rabbit with Harmony.

Hailey got out of bed and approached the crib. The man backed up and had a look of annoyance on his face. “Harmony..” Hailey said as she tried taking the doll away for a second to look at it. “Where did you get this?”

Harmony pointed at the man and giggled, keeping the rabbit with her. Hailey looked in the direction Harmony was pointing in, but she could not see the man.

She didn’t see the other man either.

A hand suddenly grasped the red-haired man on the shoulder, causing him to freeze in place. A dark, haunting voice whispered in his ear, “Touch her and I’ll show you greater suffering than hellfire.”

The man started to look behind him, wondering what was grabbing him. He saw a face of corrupt ether, with eyes of luciferous fury.

Harmony looked at the other man and tilted her head to the side. Hailey picked up Harmony from the crib and put her on the bed. “What are you seeing little girl?” Hailey softly asked as she watched Harmony point over to the two men inside the room.

“Harmony I don't see anything.” Hailey said as Harmony looked back at her sister. She made noises again and tried crawling off the bed. Hailey panicked and picked up her sister and brought her back.

She began crying. The red-haired man growled at the other man in the room, then forced his hand off his shoulder. “Keep your hands off of me.”

The ethereal man used his other hand to grab his adversary’s throat, depriving him of air and forcing him to kneel. “This is my world, Jason Meyer. Not yours.”

“You mind your own business, Cain,” Jason growled, “and stay out of mine. What would you possibly want with a child anyway?”

His grip tightened, and Jason began to gasp for air. “Interference will cost you your head, Meyer,” the ethereal man threatened. “Get out, and know that I will kill you if you ever come back.”

Harmony began bawling, she didn't want them to fight. Hailey on the other hand began trying to calm her down. “Sshh.. Harmony.. be quiet.. please, you wouldn't want our uncle to wake up, would you?” Harmony looked at her sister, and kept her stuffed rabbit close to her. Jason looked over at the two sisters, then forced the hand off his throat. “Leave, Cain. You shouldn't even be here in the first place.”

From the air in front of him, Cain produced a sword of corrupt ether. “You have no power over me, mortal.” He took the hilt and took an attack stance. “You’ll die for believing otherwise.”

As soon as Harmony saw she sharp blade, she screamed in horror and stayed close to Hailey for comfort. “Harmony.. what did you see..? What's going on?”

Harmony didn't say anything and instead continued crying. Hailey hugged her baby sister. She then carried her out of the bedroom and headed downstairs to the living room. The sound of Harmony's crying woke up everyone else in the house.

Henrick groaned as he walked downstairs. “What in the h*ll is going on?!”

“The baby saw something in our room,” Hailey began, “she somehow got this stuffed rabbit and she began crying a few minutes ago. I don't know what she saw. I couldn't see anything.”

Henrick looked down at his baby niece and saw how scared she was. His anger melted away a little bit and was replaced by pity.

“Maybe..” He began, “It might have something to do with those gem shards she has for pupils. She has gem shards for pupils and you don't. She has something else in her genetic code that you don't. That golden serum.”

Hailey looked furious, she glared up at her uncle. “What did you say?!”

Harmony began crying again. It was then Henrick noticed her eyes had a faint white glow to them.

They then heard a crash upstairs and the sound of boots stomping. Henrick grabbed a shotgun that was hanging on the wall and aimed at the staircase. Julian came running down and almost tripped on the last step. Julian ran over to Henrick and hid behind him.

It was quiet for a long time. Henrick then slowly made his way up the stairs and into his nieces’ bedroom. He found nothing, all but Harmony's slightly broken crib, a broken shelf, and the window wide opened. And the men were nowhere to be seen.

Henrick ran back downstairs and called the police, saying there was a break in. All three children were huddled up on the couch, trying to calm down.

The police came and went, collecting what little evidence was present and asking about the encounter.
