Uh-ho, the plot's here and now I'm crying

When New Years Eve came, you broadcast throughout the entire evening, updating the countdown and having an open mic where everyone could get their turn to speak about their experience in this stone world. It was fun!

A few days later, Senku called your team.
"(Y/n), we're gonna need your diamond!"
"Sure," you took off your necklace and handed it to Joel. "anything for science."
He took it out of its locket and examined it.
"That is a genuine diamond." he nodded. "But it's way too small."
"Right, it is used as a needle for recordings after all." you tilted your head, glancing to the side.
"Well then!" Senku said, more excited. "Go dig up some natural diamonds!"
"What?!" everybody in the room except you exclaimed.
"We did dig out vanadium, surely we can find diamonds too." you shrugged.
"Our geography expert mapped out where you can find them."
"You gotta tell me about that Chelsea girl at some point."
"Oh I'm sure she'd wanna introduce herself to you in person. She's a big fan of your show you know?"
"Oh!" you smiled. "Well I'm glad she likes it, can't wait to meet her."

"So I only need to polish the natural diamonds and craft a new battery?" Joel smirked. "Leave it to me. You've never seen precision grinding quite like what I can do."
"Great to hear! We'll be routine for ya!" Nikki hit him on the arm, making him blush like crazy again.
"On that note," Senku said. "this will be the globetrotters' team's last communication to you folks."
Your eyes widen as everyone else expressed their shock. But it made sense, using the radio would give away their position to Stanley and his team.
"Keep in mind that we're still open to one way communication from your end. We'd wouldn't know what to do without (L/n) (Y/n)'s show."
You smiled, your heart skipping a beat.
"And Joel, only drop a line once you've mastered making diamond batteries."
You pursued your lips. You were really curious about what was going on and what they were planning out there. But you also knew it'd be risky to communicate such important information.

So as you went back to working on your radio show and remaking modern day songs, the exploration team went mining and when they came back with a bunch of diamonds, Joel would try and cut the diamonds to fit the shape of the medusa's battery. For the past week, he's done a lot of tries, none successful so far.
"One meter one second." Yo tried the latest one. "...It ain't working." he tossed it aside.
"You're not helping either!" Minami glared at him before turning towards Joel. "Hey, it's okay."
He, like always, looked away, his face all red. Once he got a grip, he examined one of the diamonds he cut.
"It's a perfect match in shape and size. If my skills can't pull it off than no one on this Earth can do it." he thought out loud. "Could it be that an ordinary diamond somehow isn't the answer? There's gotta be some key difference, but what?"
You thought for a moment.
"Okay. Theory:" you said, raising your indexes. "the medusa comes from why-man right? And why-man comes from the moon right? So that would mean the diamond also comes from the moon, and so maybe it's different from the ones here on Earth."
"Moon diamonds...?" Minami mumbled.
"Unlikely, I recognize an Earth diamond when I see one."
You raised your eyebrows. It seemed that, in his concentration, Joel has forgotten he was talking back to a girl right now.

When you walked to the communication room for your morning broadcast, you were stopped at the doorway.
"The show's canceled for this morning." Brody explained.
"Huh? Why?" you frowned.
"We've just received a message from your Japanese friends and we just wanna make sure you don't get to hear it."
Your frowned deepened, you had no choice but to accept the situation and turn back. But instead of going back to your studio, you went to see Joel. He was looking at his watch.
"Joel."
He jumped in surprise and looked at you with big eyes, as red as a tomato. But you had no time for his cute shenanigans and went up to him.
"Tell me something: can your watch receive radio signals?"

His eyes became bigger.
"H-H-How did y-you-?"
"We made a similar thing a while back. So?" you leaned a bit closer.
This wasn't the right move to have made. He began to mumbled incoherent stuff, his eyes darting around the room. You sighed and held his hand, leading him out of the room.
"Wha-wha-(Y/n)!" he was clearly freaking out.
'His hand's sweaty.'

You lead him to meet up with the rest of the gang, somewhere private. With guys in the group, he'll be more comfortable to speak.
"Morse code via your wrist watch?" Kinrou repeated after he told what happened.
"Yes, for listening to Brody and your people." Joel smirked with a smug attitude about him. "Ultimately, I only ever trust my own handiwork."
"So what did the message say?" you asked.
"That's the thing, what does 'we've split into two teams' mean?"
With these words, your mind began to race. They can't be talking about themselves, why would they bother to tell you guys that? Maybe they're talking amongst themselves, but that would mean they managed to make a new radio, which, given the amount of time it took you guys to make two, was just impossible. Thankfully, before you could get a headache from all that talking, Joel spoke again.
"All along I've been using the radio to communicate with them about crafting diamond batteries. Now I find myself at a dead end, so maybe this is a hint about how to fine-tune the diamonds..." he thought for a moment. "By any chance, does your crew in Japan include a master craftsman?"
"Kaseki!" Yuzuriha nodded.

'Split into two...?' you thought, then gasped. "I think I got it! Though I'm not sure how it could help..."
"Tell us!" everybody exclaimed.
"Well you know how diamonds have like a weak spot?"
"...no!"
"Oh, well every diamond has a weak spot. It's got a name, but I don't know what."
"A cleavage plane," Joel said. "where the crystal bond is the weakest."
With a determined expression, he walked back to his work space. You all sent each-other a look before following him.

"How do you know about that (Y/n)-chan?" Yuzuriha asked.
"Oh, once in middle-school, Senku said he'd finally be the one to pay for drinks at the machine if I managed to break a diamond he gave me. I tried everything but it didn't work. Then I looked it up online and I went to see the blacksmith down the street to help me find that weak spot."
"He did it for free?"
"He owed me a solid for life after me and Senku got rid of a bunch of yakuzas he owed money to that one time." you smiled at those childhood memories.
"You what?!"
Before you could respond, Joel took the blackened diamond and was able to split it in half. He smiled widely.

"Such a clean break!" he happily exclaimed. "The diamond batteries have a central cleavage plane that splits apart very easily! You've done in Kaseki! That's all the insight I need!" he went back to work.
"So that means...?"
"It'll mean back-breaking labor but yes! I can replicate this! I'll stake my pride of it as a master of jeweled timepieces!"
You smiled, happy that some big progress has been made.

During your evening broadcast, just as you began to play your track, a soldier rushed in and whispered something to Brody, then the two of them left in a hurry, leaving you alone in the room. You stared at the door for a moment.
'Um... Joel works fast right? With his new piece of information, did he finished the medusa?'
You pursued your lips. Just when you pushed your chair to stand up-
"(Y/n)."
Your head suddenly turned to face the radio and you quickly sat back down.
"Senku! Hey what's u-?"
"I need to tell you something."
The smile you had fell. Something was wrong. There was noises in the background, a little beeping, muffled gun shots, people screaming. You felt a twist in your stomach. Senku kept going.

"I never really needed to say it before, we both know I'm not that kind of guy. But when Ryusui confessed to you before anything between us could happen, I learned that... I should get out of that comfort zone I created myself. I shouldn't take a backseat. Not when you're such an outgoing person... (Y/n) I-"
"Shut up. Sh-shut the fuck up." your voice was trembling, your eyes filled with tears, but you forced yourself to smile. "If...If you wanna say something to me, y-you can tell me when you come back. Right?"
There was silence for a short moment, but it felt way longer to you. And during this moment, the background noises sounded even louder to you. Finally Senku chuckled.
"I love you."
You covered your mouth, tears flowing down your face uncontrollably. You hunched over, sobbing.
"Why did you say it?" you managed to say in a little whimpering voice.
"...I'm sorry." by the sound of his voice, you could tell he was smiling.
Then, just as the gunshots became louder, he hung up. You kept crying.

'What am I doing....?' soon, a ball of anger grew in your stomach, but you were still crying.
"What the fuck am I doing?!" you took your chair and threw it across the room. "What the fuck is the point of any of this if they're all dead?!"
But, blinded by anger and hopelessness, you just kept crying.

"Do you think she noticed?" Chrome asked when Senku hung up.
"You really hit her hard with that one." Gen said. "Even I was taken aback. She sounded very upset, there's a possibility that she's now blinded by her feelings."
"...She'll figure it out." Senku said. "She's smart."

Meanwhile, in the middle of the forest, laying on the grass, his body covered with his own blood, with no more energy to move, Tsukasa looked up at the stars he could see through the trees' foliage.
'If Senku and the rest manage to recreate a working medusa...' he thought. 'can it even resurrect the dead? It healed Mirai from her comatose state, and me from my cold sleep. Perhaps all that matter if that the target's cellular structure is preserves? In that case...' he stopped himself, realizing something. 'When did it happen I wonder? At what moment did I decide to entrust my fate to the science of Senku's Kingdom?' he smiled. 'What I once ought to destroy...has become a shining star of hope.'
He stared at the stars for a moment, they looked brighter. His eyebrows furrowed.
'I want to tell (Y/n) how happy I am for her, to have come this far and to have accomplish this much. Since she probably hasn't realized it herself.' he wanted to chuckle, but knew it'd hurt like hell if he did. 'I must remain conscious... She once said she played music in her head throughout her petrification... I always liked the first song she played on the radio.'

With a weak voice and a faint smile, he began to sing. It didn't hurt as much as he thought it would, maybe the soothing thought of you calmed everything to him.
"Home, is where I want to be but I guess I'm already there~ ... I come home, she lifted up her wings, I guess that this must be the place~"

'Wait!' your eyes widen. 'No there's no way! Senku would never say that unless he's absolutely sure he'd die, which is never! Senku *never* gives up!'
Maybe you were in denial, but you also did have a point. You began pacing around the room with an expression of intense focus.
'There must have been something-anything in that message of his. Come on (Y/n) think! Think!' you pressed your temples with you palms.
You gasped. The beeping. You quickly turned over your notes and started to write on the other side. Playing Senku's message again and again in your head, but blocking out Senku's words (which was harder than expected given how focused you were on said words) so that you could concentrate on the beeping. Which you realized wasn't just beeping, it was morse code!
'If I can memorize a whole damn symphony just by hearing it once, I can do that too!' you mentally slapped yourself. 'Get your shit together (Y/n)! They probably don't have a lot of time!'

Finally, after writing down all the dots and dashes, you deciphered the message, and your eyes widen.
'Make it so the medusa swallows us all up!'
"Oh you mad man." you whispered.
You grabbed your mic and sent a message throughout the entire castle.
"Change of plan gang!" you shouted in Japanese. "Senku says to activate the medusa! Get it working by any means necessary! Make sure it gobbles the entire continent! The whole planet if you have to! We're going Suicide Squad on this bitch! Let's go!!!"
Suddenly, you heard shouts and gunshots. Not wasting time, you dropped your mic and ran towards the battle that just started.

All American forces were gathered around a giant safe (you figured the medusa must be inside), shooting down your friends as they fought and tried to approach it however they could, thankfully with the chaos going on, you were unnoticed.
Pushing through the horror of seeing your friends being shot, you watched as Magma got the key and started to open the safe.
'We won't get to it as long as they have guns.'
You looked over to Joel, standing in his corner, shaking.
"Joel!"
He looked at you, you tapped your wrists, looking intensely into his eyes. He seemed to get it, glancing at his watch before nodding to you with a determined look. Then you ran back to the communication room.
On the way there, you stopped and went to grab something. You had a plan.

When Magma fell to the ground after getting shot, Joel pushed a button on his watch and ran towards the safe. Just as he grabbed the medusa, Brody closed the safe, breaking his arm.
"Whoa there! Not so fast!" he exclaimed as Joel cried out in pain. "Can't let that device anywhere near your lips!" he took a deep breath, calming down. "That's a real shame though Joel. Why'dja go and betray us?"
"Heh, call it my bourdon revenge. Nobody interferes with my victory toast, but you decided to ruin it anyway... That's all."
"Haha, little late for smug crap like that no? The day you arrived you whipped up a wristwatch in no time at all. So as a fellow technician, I get it but-"
He got cut off by a little sound coming from the watch. It was at this moment that he realized, he made a mistake. He left you alone, thinking you were harmless. He fucked up.

At this exact same moment, you've reached the communication room and grabbed your mic. Now, you didn't know how big America was, but you didn't have to. You already had a number in mind, one that was carved in your mind, given how traumatized you got when you first heard it from why-man, using your boyfriend's voice. You shouted it at the top of your lungs.
"12,800,000 meters, one second!!!"

Thinking quickly, you immediately sat down with your legs stretched out, your feet pointing to the direction where the petrification ray will soon come from.
"If that's how he did it, then anybody can do it!"
You waited, your heart beating like a drum, the bottle of revival fluid shaking in your hand.
'I'll only get one shot at this.' you chewed on you bottom lip. 'And I have to be careful, if it touches my skin, it'd just dissolve and it'd be just some useless pain.'

Your breath got stuck in your throat when you saw the green light coming through the wall and steadily coming towards you. You gulped and stared at your foot. You started to internally freak out when you watched them turn into stone.
'Wait... wait... wait!'
Once your knees turned to stone, you splashed the revival fluid onto your legs. And just like that, you were depetrified as your body petrified. You were in the dark, but it all lasted an instant. Here you were, sitting in the communication room, in the flesh. After a little while, the green light disappeared.

You were frozen in shock for a second, panting. You looked down, touching your body to make sure you weren't stone. After that you let yourself lay down on the floor, as if you just remembered to breathe. You let out a laugh and rubbed your face.
'I did it!' you raised your fists in the air.

But then, your smile fell and you sat up. Everything was quiet. So quiet. Just like 3700 years ago, humanity got petrified. Expect this time...
'I'm the only human left...' you thought. 'Such a weird feeling.'
