Reaching in the wrong way

Suika came back in a panic, saying she found the culprit to Gen's murder.
"He's not dead though." Senku said.
"Oh my god!" you leaned closer to her. "Who killed him?! I'll never forget the sacrifice he did for us!"
He sighed, smiling.

She talked about how she heard Magma yapping about his victory over 'the outsider sorcerer', he must've confused Gen for Senku, and his goal to kill Kohaku but also maybe marry her along with her sister. When you asked her what the fuck was this lunatic's problem, Kohaku explained that it was because of the village games. A tradition to choose who will marry the village's priestess, her sister Ruri. She beat him to the ground and her father was so mad at her because of that. You and Senku laughed at that anecdote.

Because Kohaku obviously wasn't going to marry her sister, it was decided that the village games would start again in a month. It was the perfect way to approach Ruri and give her the cure-all, so someone from the Kingdom of Science had to win. So she took it upon herself to train Kinrou and Ginrou, who, after a heart-warming moment, agreed to help in order to save Ruri.
Kohaku apologized to Chrome, saying she really wanted to train him, but those two had the most chances to win amoung you. In another heart warming moment, he said he didn't mind as long as Ruri was cured, only natural for a scientist. You 'aww'ed like crazy to this, so happy he now called himself that.

"So what crazy insane science are we doing next?!" he asked.
"Yeah," you looked at Senku. "what's next on the list?"
"In order to create civilization," he said. "there is a material that is just as important as iron."
You narrowed your eyes, going through all the possibilities in your head to try and guess it before he said it.
"The first hand-made material in history...glass."
"Dammit." you whispered.

"Wait...now?" Chrome asked. "We have electricity, weren't we gonna make all kinds of medicines?"
"We will. But in order to make the cure-all sulfamide, earthenware won't be able to handle the fun chemistry experiments we'll be doing." he explained. "But glass is able to withstand most chemicals. It's the very starting point of chemistry." his serious expression lighted up. "Kukuku also, with glass... We can finally take off that damn thing, so that the mysterious true face of Ace Detective Suika-sama can be revealed!"
The young girl gasped, and before she could say anything, Senku took off her watermelon helmet with the most carefree of smile.

"Wha-Senku!" you exclaimed as Chrome was in pure shock. "That's just rude!"
'You don't get a pass just because you made a really fuckin cute face!'
"You know Suika's uncomfortable showing her face!" Kohaku added, running over once she saw what he did.
"Look at her, it's not like there was any reason to hide it."

You both looked and your eyes widen when you saw her big brown eyes,  blond bob haircut and round face.
"Oh wow, Suika!" you smiled.
"You're so cuuuuute!" Kohaku cupped her face with her hands.
A few seconds passed before Suika's face completely twisted, her eyes squinting like crazy. You laughed at Chrome and Kohaku's reaction.

"Suika's eyes..." she said, taking back her watermelon. "they have blurry disease. I can only see faint, fuzzy images of things, and if I try to see them better, my face ends up like this and it's embarrassing." she put her helmet back on, instantly regaining her cheerful mood. "But if I wear this, somehow it gets easier!"
"How can that be?" you asked Senku.
"Must be the pinhole effect." he said. "By peering through a hole, light squeezes through it, slightly putting things in focus."
"Oh~."

"Does Suika's disease and glass have anything to do with each-other?" Chrome asked.
"They have ten billion percent everything to do with each-other!" he exclaimed.
"And it's not a disease!" you added. "She's just myopic!"
"Myo...huh?"

"Suika listen." you kneeled in front of her, who was also pretty confused. "Back in our modern world, lots of people had the same problem, but it's not a problem at all. We have something called glasses." you made circles with your indexes and thumbs and placed them in front of your eyes, smiling. "You put them on, and they allow you to see clearly. They're so everywhere that even people who don't need them put them on to look cool!"

Even though you couldn't see her face, you could tell she was at a loss for words.
"...Using science," she finally said. "you can even create eyes? That's too amazing..."
"Yes." Senku said while you nodded.
She clenched her fist.
"To be honest, Suika..." she paused, her voice shaking. "Even if it's just once, I want to be able to see this beautiful world." your heart twisted when you saw a tear rolling down her cheek. "To see everyone, not blurry, not fuzzy... But as they truly are. Even if it's just once... I want to truly meet everyone."
"Oww~ Suika~!" you gently hugged her. "It's okay girl!"
She sniffed, chuckled and hugged back.
"Alright then! Let's get going and make this glass stuff!" Chrome exclaimed.

The five of you went to where Chrome found crystals, apparently they formed when granite has been weathered away. And granite was the one thing you needed, you were glad that the others ingredients were already available. You collected a big amount of granite and crushed it finely to then melt it down.

Senku worked extra hard on this one. By the end of it, his hands were worn out and bloody. While the others were admiring the glass he made, you pushed him aside to bandage his hands.
"You're working too hard dude." you said. "I get that you can press pause on that stuff, but you need to take a break at some point at least."
He just chuckled as a response and waited for you to finish. Once you were, he looked at his bandaged hands and stood up, smiling at you.
"Oh (Y/n), science doesn't wait, nor the recreation of civilization."
And with that, he walked away. You frowned.
"One day, you'll fuckin collapse and you'll be like 'ow shit', and I'll be like 'told you bitch'!" you exclaimed.
He laughed.

Even with his injured hands, Senku worked in shaping the glass to suit Suika's sight. Everytime he'd do it, you'd then check with Suika, using drawn shapes, to see if she could see them well with both eyes. As he closely scanned the glass, he'd have that look of pure focus that you found yourself staring at.
At the end, you were happy the two pieces of glass fitted her watermelon helmet so she could still wear it.

You, Senku, Chrome and Suika walked to the middle of a field of sunflowers. She was holding your hand the whole way because she wasn't wearing her helmet. Now that you stopped, she let go of it.

"Suika, what do you see?" Senku asked.
Suika squinted her entire face.
"Just some regular sunflowers." she said. "But it's not like I can see them at all..."
Suddenly, he placed her helmet on her head.
"What about now?" you asked.

She looked back up and gasped. She slowly looked around, and quietly cried. You all took a moment to admire the scenery, the flowers moving along the wind, the way the light touched them, the rays of light peeking through the clouds. You haven't truly looked at the world and its details. It really was beautiful.

You took the opportunity to have a picnic beside the river.
"Senku, Chrome! You guys look a lot cooler than I expected!" Suika happily said.
"What exactly did you expect...?" Chrome mumbled.
"And (Y/n)!" she looked at you. "You're so pretty!"
"Aw stop it!" you waved your hand.

But Senku of course cared about one thing only!
"Now the Kingdom's labor force has powered up! With glass utensils and implements, we'll be able to make all the medicine we want!"
"Labor force?!" Chrome exclaimed. "Why do you always have to ruin a good conversation with that kind of talk?!"
"Yay~ efficiency level up!" you raised your hands.
"Don't encourage him!"
You and Senku laughed, with once again two different expression of your face.

But as time passed, something grew back up once more inside your chest. Something was wrong. As selfish as it sounded, the fact that sweet Suika found a way to be useful twice made you feel...just bad, about yourself.

That night, you couldn't sleep. Not like the usual when you're just not sleepy and you'd force yourself to sleep. This time you couldn't even bring yourself to close your eyes. You sat up. If you slept, your brain would translate that as doing nothing. And doing nothing was just a no-go.
Thinking about what you could do, you recalled that feeling you felt when Senku turned on that light bulb. You used to feel it all the time back in the modern world. You felt it every time you found a new instrument, heard a new song, or when you'd see a pretty scenery.

It was inspiration.
The inspiration to compose and play music.

You looked at Senku. Seeing that he was sleeping, you stood up and went outside. You looked upon the few iron bars you've made together and pursued your lips. Thinking for a moment, you finally walked away and took a rock magnet, a bag and your swimwear with you.

If you were going to make something, you had to do it yourself. Those were your thoughts.

The air was cold. The water was cold. It was dark, but you had the moonlight and your eyes adjusted themselves at some point. You gathered a fair amount of iron sand and walked back to the furnace. The fire was boiling your skin. Your hands were cramped. And the fact that you had to stand up through the entire process made your legs shake. You wanted to shout out insults, but you couldn't. You bit your bottom lip as hard as you could. It hurt. Everything hurt. Inside and out.
Eventually, you dropped on you knees. You were panting and your lungs and muscles were burning. You looked at your trembling hands and saw blisters on your palms.

"Ouch..." you said, with a little, tired voice.
But you weren't gonna stop. Not until the sunrise came in and then you'll go back in the shed to act like you were sleeping the whole time. Or at least, that's what you were planning to do.

Because then, the person you least wanted to see, asked you the question you least wanted to hear.

"What the hell are you doing?"

Your breath was cut short. You turned your head around and saw Senku, standing there and staring at you.
