Going worldwide!
The next day, after making one gigantic roadmap, it was agreed that to continue you guys' journey throughout the world, the best decision would be to upgrade the Perseus.
"Our baby?!" you pointed at the Perseus your team itself upgraded to go on your rescue mission. "Is it not good enough for you?!"
"You guys did a fantastic job," Senku nodded. "but you know, even if we had the old version, we would've taken it appart too."
"Taking it appart?!"
"I sympathize (Y/n)." Kaseki patted your back as you held back tears watching the boat getting torn to pieces (after evacuating everything inside of course). "I know the feeling, stay strong."
"Don't worry!" Senku looked at you. "We have a way of rebuilding it into something faster and stronger!"
Kaseki immediately got so hyped he flexed off his clothes. It happened so often at this point that most people ignored him where it happened.
"How?" you asked, intrigued.
"Add metal to metal." he explained. "Use some science to activate the super-combining transformation sequence, and you got the superalloy we need!"
"Superalloy...?" you repeated.
You then let out a little 'ah', as you remembered the model of the Earth back in Japan, with the different locations you were planning to go to. Only now do you realize that South America was going to be Supperalloy City. So after collecting all of the iron from the Perceus, the science team tossed it all into furnaces to melt and added pieces of chrome.
"Chrome?!" Suika exclaimed, horrified. "We're tossing Chrome in?!"
"The rock chrome." you chuckled.
Taiju gasped loudly.
"You know what I just realized?!" he said. "Chrome, like *google* chr-"
"Taiju please." you raised a hand, stopping him from saying it. "There's a reason why we never said that joke: it sucks ass."
"By adding chrome to out mixture," Xeno approached you guys, the sound of his voice making you frown. "the new alloy is endowed with multiple characteristics and quirks. This is a key scientific principle. No rust, no corrosion, yielding an invincible superalloy!"
While the others were hyped, you simply walked away, and Xeno watched you leave with an undecipherable expression. You had to admit that his expertise was a huge help. He created a geiger counter to use like a metal detector and find an incredible amount of materials. But you still refused to say it out loud, so you decided to ignore him (despite really wanting to join Chrome and the excavation team) and to instead focus on your own things. You were looking over the instruments you brought with you and making lists and blueprints.
"What'cha doing (Y/n)-chan?" Gen looked over your shoulder. "Not gonna help out the science team?"
"We're about to found Supperalloy city right?" you looked at him. "We'll have to revive a bunch of people, and despite having interpreters, I want them to really understand that we're not here to colonize them or anything. We can have a big party, it'll be fun!"
"Ah~ I see. Using the most universals of language-"
"Money!" Ryusui exclaimed, hearing your conversation.
"Well, not really since money has a different value depending on the country's economy, but I see your point." you smiled and pointed at him.
He pointed and smiled back. You looked at your list of possible songs and pieces you could play, with a more focused look.
"We're on the island Martín García, so between Argentina and Uruguay, and I want to play some folklore pieces. But which one then?!" you began to whine but a second later you gasped. "Chelsea might know! Chelsea!" you called out, rushing to find and ask her.
"It used to be in Uruguayan waters," she explained. "then in 1973, it was agreed that it would be in Argentinian territory as a nature reserve."
"Nature reserve..."
You slowly turned to look at the multiple furnaces and the mining site, and exhaled through your teeth with furrowed eyebrows.
"Don't worry~," Gen waved a hand. "the entire world is now a nature reserve, so it's fine~!"
"I guess..." you wrote in your notes before smiling at Chelsea, your face beaming. "Got it, thank you!"
She squealed as you walked back to your station.
"You know the people we'll revive probably won't care right?" Senku raised an eyebrow as you walked passed him. "Although I admire the effort.
"Right," Gen said as he followed you. "just play South American music and it'll be fine."
"You know Gen," you stopped and turned around, pointing at him, his chest bumping into your fingertips. "it's that kind of generalization that makes up cultural insensitivity. It's like going France and playing Italian music."
You narrowed your eyes. Senku slowly shook his head, disappointed in his friend as much as you were.
"It's the same thing here. And also, because it's Argentinian music." you flipped through your papers and took out a blueprint to show him with an excited smile. "We'll get to make a bandoneon!"
He looked closely at it, as if looking for something, but then he gave up.
"I just see an accordeo-"
"Again!" you glared at him. "Bandoneons are a completely different thing! First of all it doesn't have the piano keys on the side," you explained as you pointed at the blueprint. "the shape is obviously different, and the sound- it kinda sounds the same. But! It's the sound that's the same, the vibe itself is different!"
"Okay okay! They're different!" he raised his hands.
You huffed.
"But yeah, I'll add a couple of South and Central American music in there." you casually said as you walked away.
Senku chuckled.
.
So while you were working on your own stuff, with the occasional help from Kaseki...
"I don't want to take too much of your time though..." you told him when he offered his help. "You're already working on the boat."
"Nonsense, I love making the instruments you'll play. It makes me feel like I'm part of history!"
"You're making a *rocket engine*!" you laughed.
...Senku and the science team were able to make canned food using the superalloy. Which will be a great addition to your travels. Speaking of which:
"Our moon mission, still requires plenty of ressources scattered all over the globe." Senku said.
"Hahaha! Then there's no time to lose!" Ryu snapped his fingers. "We'll craft our new ship and continue with our worldwide treasure hunt!"
"Shall we divide and conquer then?" Xeno proposed, smiling. "I craft the rocket engine, while you build the new Perseus."
Senku smiled back.
"Yup, time's not on our side, so the two science pros can't work together all buddy-buddy."
So Xeno went to his own working station, accompanied by Gen and Chrome.
"I ought to note that this stainless steel we made, is only level one."
"What?!" the two young men exclaimed.
"To reach Why-man via spacecraft, we require far more superior superalloy."
And just like that, he made some kind of giant metal furnace shaped like a skull with gas coming out of the eyes.
'Now you're just doing this on purpose.' you glanced at him as you tried to craft a charango nearby. 'Like you *want* to be a bad guy.'
"What is this?!" Chrome asked. "Smells kinda bad."
"It converts nickel to gas, thereby purifying it. To put it simply, this facility will level up our superalloys." Xeno's expression became more grim. "The process creates a fatal toxin that not even a gas mask could guard against. When absorbed through the skin, it leads to a quick death. A leak could have deadly results, so we started with our level one stainless steel, which can contain the poison."
"I'll think I'll stand over here." Gen took a few steps back.
"Reaching for outer space will require more resources as we continue across our scientific road map. Poison and other horrors are inevitable, and lesser are sure to criticize us for dabbling with such forces." he smiled calmly. "This journey demands a villain, and I shall happily accept that role. A science user of darkness." he looked down still smiling. "I will commit to the necessary science. Meanwhile, Senku will be out science user of light, the one who brings you all into a bright future. In this mission, I am okay with being hated. To every role, the perfect player."
As he spoke, you stopped in your crafting to listen. When he was went back to work, you looked down, thinking about what he said.
'Science user of darkness...?' you frowned. 'Cringe.'
With a huff, you went back to work.
'Yeah sure you're perfect to be a villain, you're an asshole! You *are* a villain! Okay with being hated? Good! 'Cause I hate-'
"Ah! Dammit!" you exclaimed.
While you were ranting internally, you made a wrong move and ended up ruining the instrument. You groaned loudly then took a deep breath, trying to calm down. Being angry at this guy will only interfere with your work.
'I just gotta ignore him and focus.'
"You okay (Y/n)?" Chrome came up to you.
You let out a long sigh.
"I'm fine, I'm just still not a master craft man. But look!" you showed him the messed up charango. "Look at all the progress I made, before I messed it up." you wheezed. "I'm getting better at this! Next time's the one!" you took another log of wood and started to carve it.
Xeno was looking at you from the corner of his eyes. He smiled when he saw your look of determination.
.
And so, with the two science team working together, a bunch of locals were revived and explained what happened and what the plan was. They were shocked obviously but ultimately they were on board. And they were hyped when you declared there was gonna be a party to celebrate the founding of Superalloy City.
"It's been forever since we've seen a live performance from world-renowned musician (Y/n)!" Gen happily exclaimed. "Be certain that it will be nothing short of amazing!"
The people were very impressed by your skills and knowledge of their folklore music, there were even some musicians in the crowd who decided to join you and you were proud that you had the idea to make extra instruments just in case.
"Diablo Rojo?" a man asked at some point.
"Huh?" you tilted your head.
"Diablo Rojo?" he repeated, showing the guitar he borrowed.
At this moment, you gasped and you swore you could cry. You didn't put it on the track list because it originates from Mexico and also it's a duet piece, but you really wanted to because it was one of your favorites guitar piece to play. So the fact that he knew how to play made you so happy. You enthusiastically nodded and his face lit up as you both took a seat next to each-other for this next track.
['Diablo Rojo' - Rodrigo y Gabriela]
On the first notes, the crowd boomed with cheers. It was just one of those pieces that made you hyped. And the drummers put their little spice in there which only added to the hype. Even the most stoic people bopped their heads to the beat.
"I cannot contain myself any longer!" Ryusui dramatically stepped onto the dance floor. "I have to dance!"
His words made you laugh wholeheartedly, seeing your reaction made him want to ask you to dance with him, but he knew you couldn't do it while playing. Well apparently he wasn't aware of the progress you've made as a performer! Because after you laughed, you stood up and said:
"You know what, me neither!"
He laughed and you both danced together. Obviously you couldn't do much without your arms, but you were able to follow his lead footwork-wise. You didn't know he knew how to dance the tango or any other latin dances, but now that you thought about it, it's Ryusui, of course he knew. And the rest of the night went on as fun as this.
"Another great success for CEO (Y/n)-chan's business~." Gen giggled as him, Senku and co admired you from afar.
.
.
It took you guys around half a year to finish the Perseus and build the rocket engine, during which you finally contacted the guys up North to tell them about your successful rescue mission. Minami was pretty pissed that it took you two months to tell them.
"In our defense," you said. "we were very much caught in the moment."
With the issue of fuel, Senku went with the simplest option and used biofuel. Now with two science team leaders, Gen was getting overwhelmed.
"Uh...May I ask what this is, Xeno-chan?" he asked the man, looking at a giant heater.
"The heat of a standards furnace does not suffice for most alloys," he explained. "so we must melt them down with an electricity-based induction heater."
"Why do the power cables look for like hoses?" he looked down at them.
"They carry water as a coulant. Otherwise, the unfathomable heat would melt the cables themselves."
Feeling a slight headache, he went to check on Senku, who was working on an equally complicated machine.
"A-and may I ask what that is, Senku-chan?" he asked, wondering if he even wanted to know.
"The Fischer–Tropsch process." he paused, seeing the look on his face. "Guess that doesn't explain much huh?"
"You guessed correctly."
"This process was pioneered by the German military, since they didn't have much oil to burn. You know how it goes: converting raw garbage gas into into liquid fuel."
"I do not, in fact, know how it goes."
Now really feeling a headache, Gen went to you, who were busy working with clay.
"Oh sweet (Y/n)-chan, finally something simple." he mumbled to himself before walking up to you. "(Y/n)-chan~! What melodiously cute instrument are you working on now?"
"A death whistle!" you smiled widely at him, the red clay on your hands looking like blood.
"Scary!!! Simple, but scary!" he shouted in horror.
You burst out laughing.
Today was the day of the rocket engine's first test run. It seemed to work perfectly and even you couldn't contain your amazement when everybody cheered.
"A real life rocket jet!!!" Taiju exclaimed.
"A gas turbine to be precise." Xeno said. "Lifting a spaceship will require endless improvement, until we have a level 99 engine."
"Kukuku," Senku chuckled. "fair enough, but still, we've finally taken the first real steps to the moon mission and confronting Why-man!"
The two scientists looked towards the sky, smiling faintly.
"Humanity took thousands of years to achieve what we've recreated in a relative blink of an eye. I suppose, Senku, that tomorrow on, this task will lead us down different paths."
"Yeah. You ain't wrong."
"I do wonder..." he glanced at him. "How will she react? Will you two separate yet again? Or will you be a nice boyfriend and bring her along this time?"
Senku laughed.
"See, that's the difference between you and me Xeno..." he gave him a smirk. "You have zero social skills."
He blinked twice, not understanding. Well, he was about to get his answer the next day when Ryusui announced their decision.
"We're splitting into three teams!"
"What?! Why?!" everyone asked.
"Heh, I get it. Now that the city is on the right track, I'm sure we'd all love to settle down and just live a little."
"Except the rest of the world is still petrified." Chrome folded his arms. "Our people in Japan and Treasure Island..."
"Dang it! That's true!" Taiju exclaimed.
"Woah dude! Language!" you smiled, acting offended.
Ryusui cleared his throat and began reading a paper.
"As for the teams: the first one will remain in Superalloy City. They'll keep amassing minerals and refining the rocket engine, as the corner-stone of science." he then listed names such as Xeno, Tsukasa and Matsukaze. "The next team will head to Corn City to get corn production back on track. That's the well-spring for reviving humanity." he then called out Taiju, Hyouga, Ukyo, Luna-
"Away from Senku?! No~!" she whined.
'I guess I can't be mad for her crush on him.' you thought, trying not to glare at her. 'But she could at least keep it on the low!"
Gen quickly changed her mind by whispering something to her, you didn't hear what though. You were actually about to ask when Ryu called out your entire team to go back to Corn City as well.
"Huh?" you let out without knowing.
"Last but not least!" he continued. "The final team will establish the other cities! They'll cross the Atlantic and continue around the globe, while picking up ressources for the spaceship on their way back to Japan as the pioneers of the future!"
"Oh yeah, I'm going too."
Everyone looked at you. You looked more relaxed than last time you were told you wouldn't go on the most important adventure.
"And let me be clear, this isn't even about me wanting to be in on the action or anything." you waved a hand. "This is about me, wanting to expend and learn. Cause right now, now that you guys are back, I'm gonna focus on my own stuff. I may be the music expert but I still don't know everything, which is why I am going straight to the source! CEO (Y/n) is pausing on the radio show hosting and on the rescuing, and is going worldwide!" you happily huffed.
Senku cackled.
"I knew you'd say that." he patted your shoulder. "At this point, it'd be a shame not to bring you along. Whatever situation there is, it always somehow goes back to you. So might as well have you right here."
Truth be told, he asked Ryu to not say your name (he just said '(Y/n)'s team'), just in case you wanted to go back to your radio show. Your heart skipped a beat with how happy you were and you kissed him on the cheek. In his corner, Xeno now understood what Senku told him yesterday.
'Making her own decisions huh. Separating herself from the mission to focus on her own science. I have to admit, I didn't quite expect that.'
"Heh, how elegant." he said under his breath, smiling.
"Around the globe? Such a long journey~." Gen whined, slouching. "How many years until we reach Japan again?"
"Hahaha! Stow those fears!" Ryu smiled.
"The rocket engine we poured our sweat, blood and tears into isn't just for the rocket!" Senku said.
Everyone looked confused, then you and Chrome gasped, your eyes full of stars. They put the engine into the Perseus and you guys were to the horizon in under a minute.
"The old Perseus' engine had us going at four knots with 300-horsepower!" Ryusui said as he stone behind the wheel. "But this superalloy engine of the future gives us 10,000-horsepower for a speed of twenty knots. Our pacific crossing took us forty days, right? Well, this Atlantic crossing is about the same distance, and the new Perseus is gonna make the trip in about a week!"
"Woaw! It's awe-inspiring!" Kohaku exclaimed. "I never imagined a boat could move at such speed!"
"Yup." Senku smiled. "Five times faster than before."
Meanwhile, you and Chrome both stood in the front of the ship, laughing wholeheartedly at how fast you were going.
"This engine might actually take us to the moon." he said with a softer expression. "Working with nothing more than the rocks in the ground..."
"Yeah dude! Science's crazy like that..." your voice trailed off when you saw him crying silently.
You felt your heart squeeze, remembering when the two of you went mining to make the cellphone's batteries. It felt so long ago now. The progress from then to now must've hit him just now.
"Aww~ Chrome!" you wrapped an arm around his neck, pulling him closer. "Look at us! Traveling the world and working to go on the moon!"
He laughed, then wrapped an arm around your neck.
"The Kingdom of Science is out to see the globe!" he exclaimed, still teary eyed. "We're going worldwide!"
"That's what I'm talking about! Let's go~!"
