First attack: could've been worse

You were taken by a sudden panic when Gen told you that Tsukasa was planning on taking over the village and that some of his warriors were gonna be there anytime soon. The way he dropped his confident facade when he said that unsettled you. Senku looked thrilled though.
"Kukuku, at last. It's time for the Kingdom of Science versus the Empire of Might! An all out war!"
"I am not into this at all." you mumbled, nervous.

"Are there a lot of people coming?!" Kohaku asked. "People with extraordinary strength like that man with long hair?!"
"Seems like it." Gen said. "There was some serious de-petrification going on. But the ones that are really dangerous are Tsukasa-chan, and a guy called Hyouga who was recently awaken. If either of them are on their way... Honestly our only option is to run, every one of us."
You gulped.
'I have a bad feeling about this.'
"Everyone!!!" you all turned to look at Ginrou running towards you in a panic. "The enemy is here!!!"

What he said sent a shiver down your spine. You and the others followed him at the entrance bridge of the village, where Kinrou was fighting a guy with a spear and a mask hiding the lower half of his face.
"Wait!" Gen exclaimed. "The one Kinrou is fighting, it's Hyouga!"
'God dammit! We have the worst of luck!'

Kinrou was clearly struggling, the way this guy moved his weapon in little circles made it impossible for him to predict where he would hit him. He tried to block it with his shield but Hyouga's spear only touched it to then dig his blade into his stomach. You covered your month with your hands.
"Kinrou!!!" Kohaku shouted.
Kinrou fell off the bridge but manage to grab one of the ropes, his feet dangling above the air.

"Now Ginrou..." he said. "Cut down the bridge."
Kohaku took out her weapon but her dad grabbed her from behind.
"Let go of me father!" she exclaimed.
"Moron! Are you going to fight a spear-wielder on a bridge like that?!"

"Think of the children! We have to cut down this bridge!" the woman, Turquoise, said.
Ginrou had his weapon's blade on the rope, but he wouldn't move, only shake in fear.
"Just do it... Ginrou." Kinrou said.
"I can't do that...There's no way I could do that 'cause...wouldn't that, wouldn't that kill you Kinrou?!" he said while sobbing, tears and snot running down his face. "I-I don't want that."

You heart squeezed in your chest with sympathy for him, having the dilemma of sacrificing his own brother or letting a bunch of barbarians taking over the village. But as you glanced at Hyouga, you knew there was little to no time to be emotional. You took a decisive step but a hand grabbed your shoulder before you could go any further.
"Where do you think you're going?"
You looked back at Senku.
"Someone has to do it! Do you see any other option?"
The corner of his mouth went upwards. Your eyes widen and you turned to face him.
"Then let's go for it!"

He grabbed Kaseki's metal straw, which he used to show off his skills to girls. He blocked one end with mud and dirt and put some black powder into the other.
"This really is the last of my gunpowder." he said. "To think that I'd be using it for a god damn bluff."

"You serious about this?" Gen asked as he took a flaming stick from one of the lamps
"It's either that or killing one of us, so it's our only option." you said. "I think it'll work."
Gen sighed and picked up a rock before towards the villagers.
"Who's the strongest?"
"Magma." you quickly replied, understanding what he was planning.
Hearing his name, the big guy turned towards you both.
"Alright Magma-chan!" he handed him the rock. "Throw this at the enemy with everything you got!"

"Huh?!" he looked at the rock. "There's no way I'd hit them with this!"
"It's fine if you miss."
"Yeah we don't care!"
"And why should I listen to you two?!"
Gen's smile became more sinister.
"You'd love to steal the title of chief from Senku-chan wouldn't you? You don't wanna lose the whole village now do you? We got to cooperate for now."
Seeing as Magma seemed to get convinced, you added.
"Yeah! And your actions and cooperation in our projects would give you tons of popularity points. What do you think of that?!"

Magma took the rock and walked away. You sighed.
"(Y/n)-chan~!" Gen cheerfully said. "I'm so proud of you~!" he pinched your cheek.
"What are you doing? Stop it!"
You slapped his hand away and walked back to Senku. Gen giggled and followed you.

Senku lit up the gunpowder, which created an explosion. You and everyone let out a surprised yell, while Magma threw the rock and it fell in the water, missing the enemies. However they didn't see him, too focused on the explosion.
Gen rushed in and held up the iron pipe, fighting Senku.
"Hold it right there Hyouga-chan!" he yelled at them. "This village has achieved guns!"

The group at the other side of the bridge was suddenly in a panic. While Gen ran to joined them, you stepped forward, putting on an enraged face.
"Gen you bastard! You were with them the whole fuckin' time?!"
"...I'm sorry."
Gen turned back, but his expression was softer than you expected.
"I'm sorry I can't be the man you want me to be." and with that, he ran away with the others.
'That was a tad too romantic for my liking dude.' you frowned, trying not to smile at his cheesy line.

This Hyouga guy was still standing on the bridge though. With his mask on, you couldn't tell what he was thinking and you didn't like it.
"You must be..." he said, looking at Senku.
"Kukuku! You suckers were just too damn slow!" he smirked. "We completed these a long time ago, the Kingdom of Science did that is!"
"Oh really? Well I'm sure they'll all be over the moon. Tsukasa too."
"Yeah, go and tell Tsukasa! Tell him that Ishigami Senku is still alive!"

'He straight up said it!' you thought as he continued.
"And that with the power of science, we have pretty much finished ten billion guns!"
Hyouga silently stared at him for a moment before joining the others. You let out a huge sighed, feeling lighter.

After waiting a bit to make sure they were gone, Kohaku and Ginrou hurried up to get Kinrou back up and they dragged him back, laying him down. His injury looked pretty bad. Senku didn't waste any time and inserted a funnel in his mouth, then he poured some powder in it.
"This is acetanilide, a fever-reducing painkiller." he explained. "While we were making the sulfur medicine for the cure-all, we accidentally made it."
"...That explosion? That was it?" you asked.

He nodded. After Kinrou swallowed the powder, he took a little jar of the cure-all medicine and took a handful of it.
"Now take this!" he violently slapped it onto his stomach. "If you put sulfur-medicine into the open wound, you'll probably be cured by tomorrow!"
"Tomorrow?!" / "Probably?!" Kohaku and you exclaimed at the same time.

And the next day, Kinrou was leaving the shed and climbed down the ladder like nothing happened.
"I'm completely healed."
"Incredible!" the others outside shouted.

"No you're not!" you looked down at him from the shed's doorway. "You're barely holding yourself up right now!"
"As a guard, I can't just lie around by myself all day! We have no idea when that group from before might attack us again!"
"Dude, your stomach is bleeding as you're speaking!"
He trembled and swallowed.

"Did you just swallow blood going up your throat?"
"...yes-."
"Go rest!" you groaned. "Why are you so stubborn?!"
"Reminds me of someone I know." Senku whispered to himself, smiling.

"Well, he wouldn't be Kinrou if he wasn't do damn serious." Ginrou said.
"Also, that's not quite true." Senku said. "I can predict when they'll come back."
"Really? you looked at him.
"In order to avoid our imaginary guns, those guy will take it easy until it storms. Gen will probably lead them to think that way for us."
You just hummed as a response. You didn't what to say it out loud, but right now you were glad Gen was on your side.

Everyone gagged at how cool Kinrou looked with his new glasses. The way he readjusted them looked so natural. Suika also got a brand new  watermelon shell and she happily hopped around.

"The perfection for our scientific battle isn't over yet!" Senku exclaimed. "Don't laze around! When the storm comes, the victory will go to whoever is the fastest! So let's get to work!"
You yelled out a determined 'yeah', and as you did, you heard voices joining yours. You turned around.
"Ow shit." you muttered.
You haven't realized it, but a whole crowd of villagers have gathered here. You smiled. Seeing that the Ishigami village has come together for this warmed your heart.

The whole Kingdom of science worked to make iron. You got pretty hyped up when Senku said you were gonna make katanas. Not as much as old man Kaseki though, he flexed all of his clothes off when he heard it. When that happened, you quickly covered your face with your hands, as much as you loved muscles, he was still an old man and you did not want to see that.

Whenever you had some spare time, you'd work on your own little thing. You carved some wood into two half of a round box and carved the edges so that you can close it like the cap of a bottle. Of course, you failed many times, but thanks to Kaseki's help and advice (which you accepted as soon as he put on some clothes), you ended up with a satisfying result. When you were done, you poured some salt inside and tightly shut it. Shaking it a few times, you proudly smiled at the result.

Senku looked over as you were struggling while making another attempt at carving the edges correctly. He smiled at your look of pure focus, and after a while he realized he might have stared a bit too long and quickly returned to his own work. You were too focused to notice, and now he knew how you felt.

But neither of you will know that you've just had a reverse situation going on.
