A story for Suika or Happy Birthday 2
[If you're birthday isn't on autumn, when this takes place, I don't care
The story that's about to be told isn't from me, it's from the movie 'Kirikou and the men and women', good shit]
A few days ago, you learned about Suika's birthday, and you went on a mission.
With the help of everyone, you planned out the whole day. Started with a nice breakfast, then you sent her on a scavenger hunt, acting like someone stole your intruments.
"Help me Ace-Detective Suika!" you said, your hands joined together. "Save my business!"
She readjusted her shell, huffing with determination.
Finally, the hunt led her to the stage, where a birthday party was waiting for her.
"Happy birthday Suika!!!" you and everyone shouted.
It was a fun time, but the little girl was tired at some point. So while the others continued to have fun, you picked her up and brought her back to her house. Senku went with you, wanting to leave this party as soon as possible.
"Did you have fun?" you asked after putting the blanket on her.
She nodded and took off her shell, putting it beside her.
"Well, we'll let you sleep." you stood up. "Good night Suika."
"Wait," she said. "after everything that happened today, I won't be able to fall asleep."
"Didn't you say you were tired?" Senku asked.
"Y-yes but..." she played with her fingers. "Can I have a bed-time story?"
"Uh..." you thought for a second and sat back down. "I can tell a story sure."
"Will it be about music?!" she enthusiastically asked.
"Sure." you smiled.
Senku folded his arms and leaned back on the wall.
"So," you clapped your hands. "in a far away land called Africa, where it was really hot, there was an isolated little village, and in this village was a little boy called Kirikou. And he was literally a small boy, like he could fit in your hands and..."
You stopped talking when you saw the look on her face.
'Okay I feel like I'm losing you here. I should change the story a bit.'
You coughed.
"Nevermind. It's about a different little isolated village, and in this village was a...girl named Suika."
Her face lit up, you smiled.
"And she lived with... her big sister, (Y/n)."
"Did Senku live with them too?!"
"Actually no." you raised a finger. "There was a guy named Senku, but he didn't live with them. Senku was the village's chief and he lived in this big big house towering the others. And he was always locked in his tower, doing science stuff all day everyday. And he didn't even looked outside! When something happened, he'd ask his butler Gen what was going on. His whole world was his lab and so the village outside was neglected. So much that, when the sisters' mother Lillian died, he kept her first and last recorded song, along with the record player."
"Why am I such an asshole in this story?" Senku asked, frowning.
"Well, it just makes sense in the context of the story." you looked at him before turning back to her. "So one day, there was hot and violent wind coming from the south and it was a nightmare for everyone..."
It was too hot inside so everyone was outside, hiding behind their houses, away from the wind. And the village babies were crying because it bothered them so much. And Chief Senku, at the top of his tower was like:
"This wind is driving me crazy! Not only is it hot and violent, but it brings me all the cacophony of this god damn village! I can't focused on my science-ing! Gen! What is that noise?!"
"Seems to be babies crying Chief Senku." Gen said as he looked out from the balcony.
Meanwhile Suika picked up a blade of grass and was like:
"I'll play music to them, that'll calm them down!"
And so she blew on the grass, but the horrible sound it made just made the babies cry even more. And with the wind, the villagers didn't hear the guards coming in! General Magma, Lieutenant Kohaku and the other two, Kinrou and Ginrou.
"The Chief Senku demands that you villagers stop that noise!" Magma exclaimed.
"Suika, we can manage." Ruri the care-taker said. "But for the babies, we can't really do anything."
So the guards were like 'okay whatever' and they went away. Suika decided to make a better instrument, she took a bamboo branch and went to her place to dig a hole into it with a knife, while her sister looked at her with curiosity.
"Why wasn't the sister outside with the others?" Suika asked.
"Well, the big sister almost never goes outside. Because she's very passionate about music, she keeps playing and playing alone in her house. And the walls are thick enough so that no one outside hears."
"Oh~." she nodded. "Keep going!"
So Suika went back to the babies and she was like 'check this out!' she played a note to them, and it worked but only for a moment before they cried again. The guards came back and are like 'Chief Senku demands that you guys stop!' And so Suika went to her house again to make more holes so that she could make more notes.
"What are you doing?" her sister finally asked.
"I'm making a flute!" Suika said.
"Be careful with that knife!" she said. "You could cut your fingers off if you're not careful!"
She took the knife and cut three holes into the bamboo branch while Suika held it in place. It made a new sound everytime.
"Now if you plug one or more holes, you'll get different note." (Y/n) pointed out.
So Suika did that and she was psyched. She went to the babies and this time (Y/n) came along, cause she was still curious. Suika played the four new notes in order, over and over. And it became annoying real fast. Meanwhile Chief Senku was like:
"Oh my god! Make it stop!!!"
The guards came back and they had enough, and Magma said:
"Give me the instrument!"
And Suika was like:
"What instrument?"
Magma walked over and snatched the bamboo flute from her and crushed it with his hand. Then he threw it on the ground and smashed it with his foot. Then he walked away laughing like the total jerk he was.
Suika sadly looked down at her broken flute while (Y/n) sent daggers to the guards, cursing the chief who gave them the order.
"What a dick." she said between her teeth.
"Why is Kohaku with them?!" Suika asked. "She'd never let something like this happen!"
"Well you know, it's her job. You gotta do what you gotta do to make a living." you shrugged.
"As much as I agree, that's just way out of character for her." Senku said. "And again, why am I such an asshole?"
"Wha-Again! It makes sense in the context of the story!" you glared at him. "You guys are so nitpicky! I can just stop on this sad note-"
"No~!" Suika leaned closer. "It's my birthday, you can't do that!"
"Right...sorry." you said.
Suika slowly picked up the pieces and looked up at her sister with her eyes watery.
"What do I do now?"
"...You make another flute." (Y/n) said, driven by determination. "But this time, we'll have to get smarter."
So she took her to the basement, where she goes to test out her new instrument, where even in the house, you wouldn't hear.
She showed Suika a professional tambin.
"This is our father's old flute."
"Our father's flute..."
"I'm gonna train you." she said. "You already made a lot of progress on your own. Seems like we both inherited from our dad's talent."
"Can I play it?"
(Y/n) gave her the flute but Suika couldn't to reach the holes.
"No~! My arms are too small to play the flute! I hate being a kid!"
"Hey, I was a kid too, I also couldn't reach the holes at first. You made one by yourself, that's impressive. Now, try to do as I do."
She played a tune and suddenly, the note went all wobbly and vibrato.
"What did you do?!" Suika asked.
"I spoke to the note."
"What did she actually do?" Suika asked.
"Yeah I was just thinking," Senku said. "she did not just 'spoke to the note'."
"Way to kill the magic here." you quickly said under your breath before explaining. "Basically she vibrated her vocal chords as she blew air into the flute." you turned towards Senku. "Kinda like a kazoo."
"Except it's...nothing like a kazoo."
"You get my point!"
So as the two sisters were training, the other villagers each tried to calm the babies down. The farmer Taiju tried to use a big bowl as a drum, it didn't work. Yuzuriha the stylist used her comb as a güiro, it didn't work. Ryusui the merchant used his two golden necklaces as a shaker, it didn't work. François the baker tried to use their grater and a stick as...I guess another güiro? I'm not sure, whatever. Ukyo the hunter used the string of his bow as a bass, it didn't work.
At some point, the villagers began to lose hope, but at least the wind was beginning to weaken a bit.
Finally, Suika and (Y/n) went out.
"Oh Suika, where were you?" they asked.
"I was practicing the flute!"
"So you have more than four notes now?"
"No, but those notes I can play in the order I want, I play them better, and I speak to them."
"...Okay whatever, go ahead. At that point, it won't make much difference."
And so Suika began to play, and it was very nice and pretty. Meanwhile in his tower, Chief Senku heard the flute and for the first time, he paused in the middle of his work.
"And what is...that?" he asked.
"That appears the be the child Suika once again Chief Senku. Playing the flute again." Gen smiled as he looked out. "She's made some progress."
The babies finally stopped crying, but Suika was on a roll and kept going. Suddenly the guards were coming back! And (Y/n) discreetly swapped the flute with a regular bamboo. Because of course Magma wouldn't notice the difference. He exclaimed:
"Chief Senku demands that you play louder, so that he could hear!"
Suika dropped the bamboo out of shock. All of the villagers in fact were silent in their shock, their jaw dropped, they were completely stunned. And the guards went away. Suika took back her flute and kept playing. (Y/n) gazed up at the tower's balcony because going back in the house.
Chief Senku closed his eyes to listen closely to the nice little flute. Suddenly another flute was heard and it made him turn around towards the outside. (Y/n) has gone to get her father's flute and went on a little solo before joining her sister into a duet.
One by one, every villager stepped forward and joined them with their own instrument. And the others were clapping along and they just started to dance and sing when suddenly, everyone stopped and looked up at the sound of a familiar voice.
On the balcony, Chief Senku was standing beside the record player, and with the amplifier he just made, Lillian's record could be heard through out the whole village. He was smiling down at them, and for a moment, his and (Y/n)'s eyes locked before she started to play along with her mother's singing. Then Suika kept going, then everyone else did.
And so it turned into a great celebration! Where the entire village bonded together.
"The end."
"Wow~!" Suika leaned closer. "What happened after that?!"
"Uh..."
"Was Chief Senku still locked in his tower after that?"
"No... He can be seen on the balcony from time to time, and he never missed an annual festival."
"And what about-?"
"Sssssh~." you patted her head, gently pushing her back onto her pillow. "I told a story, not it's time for bed."
She rubbed her eye, yawning.
"Thank you (Y/n)-chan, it was a great story."
"Probably because it's not mine." you smiled. "Goodnight Suika."
"Goodnight," Senku said. "and again, happy birthday."
"Goodnight~." she said in a little tired voice.
"You really edited that story there." Senku said as he walked you home.
"Yeah, I added the sister stuff, I thought it'd be a nice parallel with the chief."
He raised an eyebrow.
"...Or that could also be my romantic-hungry-self." you chuckled, a bit embarrassed.
A moment of silence passed. You could see the lights in the direction of the stage, and you could hear the others still having fun. You looked at Senku, and blushed.
"...Can I hold your arm?"
Senku glanced around.
"There's no one here, don't worry." you added.
He was silent, but eventually raised his arm a bit for you to wrapped your own around it. Which you happily did, your heart skipping a beat.
'Level 1 hand-holding acquired!!!' you thought with an immense sense of triumph.
"Is this gonna be your birthday present?" he smiled.
You looked down.
"You're usually so psyched for celebrations, why didn't you tell anyone?"
"Well, Yuzuriha and Taiju gave me presents this morning." you scratched your cheek. "I wanted today to be just about Suika. It was her first birthday party after all."
Now in front of your house, you faces each-other.
"Does that mean you have no present from me?" you asked, half joking.
Senku smiled, and yours dropped.
"What is it?"
He opened the door, gesturing for you to come in. You quickly went inside and started looking around.
Now you could have thought of something sexual, but when it comes to Senku, that was not even on the list of possibilities.
A little box was placed on the table. You gave Senku a look before carefully taking it and opening it. You gasped.
"Is that...?"
"Chocolate." he nodded, his hands on his hips. "Well, more like a replacement for chocolate. Made from endo peas powder, nuts and vanilla essence."
"Oh my god..." you covered your mouth.
You picked up the little tablet and ate one square. The taste made you have a flashback to all the modern era sweets.
"Mmh!" you looked at him. "Stop!"
You placed it down and hugged him tightly.
"Thank you Senku~! I love it~!"
He smiled and patted your back.
"Good. So it is good enough to eat."
"Oh-you ass!" you laughed and let him go.
"I'm kidding. Obviously I wouldn't give it as a present if I wasn't ten billion percent sure it wasn't inedible."
"Wow, what a gentleman you are." you smiled before looking back to the box. "Chocolate made from scratch... How will I top that...?"
You spoke quietly under your breath, but he still heard you.
"You gave me an observatory for my birthday." you looked at him. "With that, you get a pass for decades."
"Aww~." your eyebrows furrowed. "That's very sweet."
"That's...just a fact..." he shrugged. "comparing a telescope to a chocolate."
"I'd take the chocolate."
"I know." he sighed.
You both smiled.
