A Burning Question.

3rd person POV

"Are you sure, though?" Marco asked.

"I'm as sure as Aoi is the Water Knight!" Ace said.

"What if it changes the future?" Marco asked.

"If this decision doesn't change it, then another will. I won't let this stop me!" Ace said and headed out on to the island they were currently docked at, searching for his girlfriend.

"Aoi!" He called when he finally found her staring through a window at a shop.

"Hm? What is it, Ace?" Aoi asked.

"There's something I've been meaning to ask you, and, well, after thinking about it for a really long time, I'm 110% sure about this!" Ace said.

Aoi's POV

"Oh god... Is he abou to do what I think he is?!" I thought. Ace grabbed my hands and I felt my heart hammer in my chest.

"Oh, God.. He is! He's going to propose!" I thought as Ace squeezed my hands.

"Aoi... Will you..." He started. I stared at him.

"Tell me when we're going to meet Luffy?" He asked. I was speechless. The urge to bash my boyfriend over the head with the nearest chair or table was strong. Very strong.

"... Aoi?" Ace asked.

"Are you fucking serious?" I asked. He blinked at me.

"Yes." He said. I pulled my hands away.

"That was the burning question you had to ask me?" I asked.

"Aoi, just tell me!" He whined. I growled.

"Ace, I've told you once and I'll tell you again. I'm not telling you when, where, why or how we meet Luffy! It'll mess things up to the point where we don't meet him at all." I said. My childish boyfriend pouted down at me. I put my hands on my hips and glared up at him.

"Ace." I said. He gave me puppy eyes. I flicked his forehead.

"Owie!" He pouted, holding his head. I scowled.

"Ace, you know I'm never going to say, so stop asking. It's starting to get annoying." I said. He wrapped his arms around my waist and rested his chin on my shoulder.

"I'm sorry." He said. I sighed.

"I can't stay mad at you." I said. He gave me his big kid grin. I rolled my eyes and smiled at him softly. He sprung off me and ran around town. I got back to shopping for medical supplies that we were running low on and might not last until the next island.

3rd person POV

"So you chickened out." Marco said.

"No! It wasn't the right place or time! What if a marine walked around the corner right as I was telling her the truth? It would have put her in direct danger! I want to avoid that as much as possible." Ace replied. Marco rolled his eyes.

"Will you just ask her already? The suspence is killing me." Marco said.

"OTP trash." Ace muttered.

"What was that?" Marco asked.

"A sneeze." Ace lied. Marco gave him a suspicious look, but shrugged it off.

"Just ask her already." Marco said.

"Alright! Chill out!" Ace said, then left to find Aoi again.

He found her in their shared bedroom, taking a nap. He sighed and kneeled by the bed, watching her peaceful, sleeping face.

"Such an angel." He thought. He gently stroked her hair away from her face. Her eyebrows twitched and he frowned as she started to wake up. She yawned and sat up.

"Hello there, my angel. Rest well?" He asked as she rubbed her eyes.

"Huh? Oh, hi Ace. When did you get in here?" She asked, stretching. Ace heard about 14 cracks go down her spine.

"A few minutes. You look so peaceful when you sleep." He sighed softly. She smiled at him and leaned down and kissed his head.

"I could say the same to you." She said. He stood up from his kneeling position and then sat down by her. She held his hand and rested her head on his shoulder. He rested his cheek on her head.

"I love you." She said softly. He turned his head and kissed her hair.

"I love you. So much." He said. He wrapped his arms around her and held her close to him. She cuddled in to his chest. He sighed softly at how she fit perfectly in his arms. Like she was built specifically for him.

"I could stay like this forever." He hummed softly. She smiled and kissed his neck.

"So could I." She said. Ace closed his eyes and just enjoyed the feeling of holding her. Aoi began to trace small circles on his chest. He smiled softly and opened his eyes just enough to watch her.

"She's so perfect. In every way possible. She's beautiful. She's smart. She's strong. She's tough. She's brave, even when she's scared. I don't deserve her. But.... I don't want anyone else to have her. Whatever I did to make her fall in love with me, I hope I never change it." He thought.

"Ace? Are you okay? You got all glassy-eyed all of the sudden. You look ready to cry." Aoi said, bringing Ace out of his thoughts. There was a look of worry on her face.

"I'm just thinking about how much I love you." He said. She smiled softly and kissed him gently. He stroked her hair softly.

"Aoi, I love you beyond words can describe. Whenever you touch me, I feel this warmth spread through out my whole body. Whenever you smile, whenever you kiss me, I forget all of my flaws. I feel like as long as you're with me, nothing can break me." He said. She watched with curious jade eyes and he shifted from sitting on the bed to standing in front of her, holding both her hands.

"Whenever you're away from me, I feel cold and I can never get you out of my head. You're the reason my heart beats." He said, lowering himself on to one knee. Aoi's eyes widened.

"Ace? What are you-" she started.

"I've thought about this for a very long time, and I know for certain, that as long as my heart beats, I want to be by your side. I want to spend the rest of my life with you." He reached in to his pocket and produced a small box, opening it to reveal this ring:

Aoi gasped softly.

"Ocean D. Aoi, will you do me the honor and spend the rest of your life with me as my wife?" Ace asked, looking her in the eyes.

Tears filled her eyes and her heart was pounding loudly in her ears.

"Am I dreaming?" She thought. She felt a soft smile take her face and tears of joy spill over.

"Oh my god, Ace! Yes!" She said. Ace smiled and slid the ring on her finger and kissed her hand. She threw her arms around his shoulders and kissed him all over his face. He laughed happily and held her tight against him.

"I love you so much!" She said between kisses. He finally caught her lips with his and indulged in a sweet, happy kiss.

"This is no dream. I finally get to marry Ace!" Aoi thought happily. Ace laughed as they pulled away.

"I love you with all my heart, Aoi. I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you." He said softly. Aoi smiled up at him with tears still rolling down her cheeks.

"I love you, too, Ace. I'm so happy I get to spend my life with you!" She said, kissing him again. He chuckled.

"Then why are you crying, my love?" He asked. She laughed.

"I'm sorry, I can't stop. I love you so much!" She said and kissed every single one of his freckles.

Time skip

"So?" Marco asked as Ace walked in to the room. Thatch, Jozu, Marco, Haruta, Izo and the other division commanders in the room -even Whitebeard- looked at him with excitement and curiosity sparkling in their eyes.

A giant grin over took Ace's face.

"She said yes!" He said. The room broke out in cheers.

"Oh, I can't wait to help Aoi-chan find a dress!" Izo said.

"This is so exciting!" Haruta cheered. Whitebeard laughed happily.

"Well, I think that's the best news we'll hear this meeting!" He said. Everyone cheered.

Naturally, that night, a huge party happened.

Little to Ace and Aoi's knowledge, there was a huge adventure about to take place for them.
