Introduction
My parents love was the strongest I ever knew. When they had me, I got a special necklace. It was shaped like a heart. Well, at least the half I had. I bet you are probably very confused, let me explain.
Every child born on Earth gets a necklace each with its own design and shape. Every one is split into two. Each half is given to a boy and a girl. It is up to them to find the other with the half that fits theirs.
That's where we are now. I have a broken heart shape. I have never met a soul with one as unique as mine. Most of them are crazy, weird shapes. Like my friend, Azalea, she has a necklace design that looks like a blob.
My parents named me Dawn, after the time of day. It's when the sunrise comes up, the most gorgeous time of day in their opinions.
I'm 18 now, and I haven't found my soul mate yet. My age is the most common time to go on your quest for your soul mate if you haven't found them yet. Luckily for Azalea, she found her mate at age 12. It's the best time because they can become friends and get to know each other before they get married.
But here I am, already graduated and I still haven't gone on my quest. I know I should probably be excited, even anxious to find my mate. But right now, I want to slow down time, stay young for awhile longer. My parents are worried but I just want to do one thing at a time. I want to do things that I won't be able to do with a soul mate.
Azalea's wedding is scheduled to be in May, 5 months away. My friends and family are silently trying to encourage me to go so that I will be back by then. I just don't like being on my own. Nobody is allowed to come with me. It's my responsibility to find the man I am destined to marry.
