5'5 and roughly 150-155 pounds. on the chubbier side, with a dark complexion and brilliant, fiery amber eyes. round, youthful-looking face, a wide, flat nose, and full lips. hair is jet-black and falls to her mid-neck in a mane of 3b-3c curls. has a burn scar over her right eye—as well as hyperpigmentation on the right half of her face and neck—due to an incident with her powers.

Deja Robinson was a hardworking woman in every sense of the word. By day, she was a mechanic at a local auto shop. In addition to the long and demanding hours she worked, she constantly dealt with the racist/misogynistic microaggressions and attitudes that came with being a black woman in her field. By night, she followed her true passion—innovation. Her head was full of ideas for inventions and building projects, and her greatest goal in life was to see them take off. She struggled to be taken seriously, was rejected every time she pitched an idea, and had the locals buzzing about how crazy she was. However, Deja was driven and spirited, and refused to give up. This eventually caught the attention of the god Hephaestus (disguised as a mortal), who took an interest in both her and her work. The two began a relationship, and Hephaestus promised to help her become successful. A few months later, Deja realized she was pregnant. Hephaestus left her soon after, wishing her well and apologizing for his inability to help make her dreams come true. In November of that year, their daughter Blake was born, and Deja abandoned her many projects so she could focus on being a mother and holding a job.

In addition to ADHD and dyslexia, Blake dealt with social anxiety disorder from a young age. She struggled to socialize and assert herself, which made her an easy target for bullying at school, and her mind was constantly overrun with thoughts and worries. There were only two sources of support for her. One was her supportive mother Deja, and the other was building. As a child, Blake took after her mother and began tinkering with spare parts in her free time, using it as a creative outlet for her emotions. She quickly found it was something that helped her to focus and ground herself, and as she grew older, she developed a greater interest in building and mechanical engineering. While she never became an expert like Deja, she learned enough over the years to perform basic repairs, draw detailed sketches, build small things.

Blake's life continued normally until her sophomore year of high school. After an incident involving monsters at her homecoming dance (which her mother had talked her into attending), she was saved and brought to Camp Half-Blood by fellow demigod Jay Moore. She was claimed by Hephaestus shortly after arriving, although many questions remained about the nature of her abilities and her family.

extremely shy and meek. her social anxiety causes her to be withdrawn and perpetually nervous, constantly overthinking and stressing over seemingly small details. this is especially evident when interacting with others, where she tends to be awkward, stuttering often and struggling to make eye contact. this is why she's so passionate about building and repairing: she's finds it therapeutic. despite her initial nervousness, she's a total sweetheart once you get to know her. she has a kind heart, strong sense of nobility, and gets very emotionally attached to people she manages to bond with.

her fatal flaw is her low self-esteem and lack of confidence. she believes in herself very little and has a poor sense of self-worth, which can cause her to fold quickly in stressful situations, particularly in ones where she's needed. this also makes it very difficult for her to harness her powers and form relationships, both of which are absolutely necessary in the dangerous life of a demigod. she has to learn to believe in herself and build confidence if she expects to survive.

•unlike some of her siblings, she isn't able to control and manipulate machines. however, she can still sense when machinery and metal are close by.
•chrysós, the name of her shield, translates to "gold" in modern greek.
•i'm aware fire powers are extremely rare for demigods. however, blake has them for a reason—they're symbolic of her inner struggle to find her "fire", aka her confidence. it's a big part of her character arc and she wouldn't be the same without them :)
