Ship Origin

This ship began thanks to the game Shadow debuted in alongside Rouge: Sonic Adventure 2

Shadow and Amy first encountered each other on Prison Island.

Shadow was trying to help Eggman find one of the Chaos Emeralds, which actually was there believe it or not.

Amy, on the other hand, was trying to rescue Sonic from the literal prison on the island after he was framed.

The pink heroine mistook Shadow for Sonic and hugs him, taking about a minute to realize she hugged the wrong hedgehog.

The next time the two met was in the Final Story for the game.

Amy pleaded with Shadow to stop Gerald's program from crashing the Space Colony Ark into the world.

She somehow triggered what Maria's true final words for Shadow were, making realize he was living for the wrong thing.

While Sonic and Shadow did the hero work, Amy, in a way or two, saved the world with kindness and compassion.

Sonic Adventure 2 is one of the most popular games in the franchise, and it started off the fanbase easily.

So naturally, there's gonna be fans who thought Shadow might be the answer to Amy's rejection in affection from Sonic.

The ShadAmy fanbase was born thanks to the two moments between them in Adventure 2.

I don't have real numbers or measurements, so I can't tell you how popular it is compared to other ones.

What I can tell you is that it's been a decently popular ship over the years.

Sample Text

Usually whenever I type in ShadAmy, the first few I find are Alternate Universe (AU) stories.

Shadow and Amy basically meet and start falling for each other, but Sonic isn't willing to let go completely.

But for the sample I'm using, I'll make an exception.

Love is Hard (by Rubes_ss

What I like about is the approach to the relationship.

Shadow basically fell from the Ark around the same time Sonic and team are around.

This basically means the tragedy that happened 50 years ago in the original timeline is in the present this time.

Amy has gotten over Sonic and moved on, but Shadow appearing gives her another chance at romance.

They also fix Sonic some too, putting him with Sally near the end.

Though the only problem I had with it was Maria being possessive of Shadow.

I never really see Maria as the scheming type and getting mad when she doesn't get Shadow.

The story is really a repeat of...

1) Sonic is a jerk

2) Sonic prefers Sally over her

3) Amy realizing Sonic was never the one for her

2 and 3 are harmless and sometimes true, but 1 is usually done for no reason.

If the author is reading, please don't take offense to my criticism.

Regardless, I do recommend giving them a follow and putting some votes in their books.

Shadow's perspective

Under most circumstances, Shadow doesn't even care about love and romance.

He pretty much lost Maria because he himself was dangerous and Maria was shot and killed for trying to get him to safety.

To him, the last thing he needs is another girl close to him to meet the same fate.

But Amy didn't give up on Shadow changing, even though being a friend and ally could cost her.

Also, Amy somehow reminded him of Maria, being kind, innocent, caring and everything else.

Any story with him and Amy together has Shadow realize just how much Amy gives him hope.

Hope that maybe there is a point in living life and being with someone.

Amy's perspective

She's always been in love with Sonic, though that love isn't exactly what people think it is.

Sonic is a celebrity and hero, something girls would dream of.

Amy, by all means, is Sonic's #1 fangirl.

She dreams of being with Sonic, but it's just that...a dream.

Just like fan girls in real life, they have to realize at some point that the popular guy won't really marry the fan girl.

Being Cinderella in real life is impossible, because a rags to marrying riches is not what celebrities are looking for.

That's why some people, and to an extent Amy, see the appeal in her with Shadow.

Shadow isn't exactly popular with the people in Sonic's world.

Heck, he tried to doom the world twice!

But Amy was able to see through this and find that Shadow did have a big heart underneath it all, he just needed to find the will to live.

Being with Shadow also means she's more safe with him than Sonic.

Sonic always fights Eggman, so it makes sense for the villain to need a hostage get the hero to back down.

With Shadow, Eggman won't try because Amy isn't exactly close enough to be important to Sonic.

Plus, Eggman would rather be humiliated by Sonic than face possible death by Shadow.

And I guess if Amy wanted kids in the future, Shadow would be a better father than Sonic in the long run.

(Me: Do you need some ice for that burn, Sonic? *dabs*)

My Thoughts

Straight to the point, this ship is completely harmless.

Then again, "most" of the ships are, so it's pointless to hate them.

Whenever I see this couple, I get the impression that Amy going to be not so "innocent" anymore.

What I mean is that first look makes me think Amy might become a tough goth girl after getting with Shadow.

But on the contrary, Amy mostly stays the same in the ship, just more wiser than before.

Shadow surprisingly lets down his barriers pretty quickly around Amy, not exactly afraid to be around her.

The ship may seem odd at first, but it becomes natural once you look into it.

Pros

1) Good interactions 50+

2) Shadow reveals other personalities he never shows 30+

3) Amy learns to let go of Sonic 20+

Cons

1) Sonic is usually painted as a jerk and a cheater in any version -30

That's the only problem I have with the ship.

My OCs react and rate

Aura: It's nice to see the two find their peace together. A picture perfect Yin and Yang relationship that's stable.

Fury: I don't trust Shadow with her. That guy has a habit of going solo. Amy might get left in the dust later.

Bopper: What's the matter Fury? You and Sonic jealous?

Fury: One, I am NOT romantically interested in Amy. Two, don't put in the same boat with Sonic.

Bopper: I think they look adorable together. Plus my mom had collections of 60's classics where couples like them exist.

Hip: Oh cool! I never thought about Shadow being the cool guy and Amy being the girl he gets like in those movies.

Class: Why do I feel like Fonzie will show up later?

Hip: I like it. Just that, plain and simple.

Class: This is the very definition of "opposites attract".

Final Thoughts

I don't have any ideas for this ship to thrive.

It's already popular enough to rival SonAmy and Knuxouge, so what's the point in encouraging it further?

Just look up ShadAmy and you'll find an entire archive of stories for it.

That's kind of the beauty of it spawning out of Adventure 2, it took it's time to grow massive.

Shadow is the edgelord who needs someone to set him straight on the only path a hero like him would take.

Amy is the girl that needs a reality check and someone to pick her up.

You couldn't ask for something else that fits conveniently.
